I'm really not fond of Star Wars movies, and by "not fond of" I mean I fucking hate them. However with the Star Wars-related games, it's a totally different ballgame and I love most of them.

It's been ages since we got last quality action or FPS game based on Star Wars universe. I'm not counting RPGs of course. The last really good Star Wars game was Empire at War which was RTS - pretty unlikely genre for a SW game. Anyway, by quality action game I don't mean transplanting Battlefield DNA onto Star Wars world - like in Battlefront that it's coming out in 2015 (despite DICE saying it won't be like it). The last quality Star Wars FPS was probably Republic Commando.

This universe begs for quality action / FPS games on the level of Jedi Knight, Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy.

Is there any indication Battlefront this time will be different than the previous ones and will differentiate itself from Battlefield and have a decent SP campaign?

I wish we get them but not holding my breath. Battlefront is only hope right now. 1313 looked awesome before it was canceled.

All of the major Star Wars games have been good as far as I'm concerned. The only awful one was Force Unleashed II

I'd love to see a Star Wars game made by Naughty Dog using the TLoU formula.

Unfortunately, most great IP games are horrible because they know they can just cash in on the name alone without putting in any effort.

No they never ever will it is literally impossible for this major franchise to ever ever get a game that will ever be good so don't ask this question. It's an impossibility and time is running out because the world ends in three years. We have only three years left to make a single good star wars game and that isn't enough time so it doesn't look like we will ever get one again ever ever ever.

Visceral Games (who made Dead Space) is making a "Star Wars Action Title". And they hired Amy Henning (of Soul Reaver and Uncharted fame) as the game director (or lead designer or something like that). This has a good chance of turning out well. Though I'd rather see a conclusion to Soul Reaver :(

How many Star Wars games have there even been since those two you mentioned? The Force Unleashed games, a few Clone Wars titles and an MMO that's about all I can think of. There's obviously going to be a big influx of games in the next few years and I would be very surprised if at least a few of them weren't good.

I just want a new Rogue Squadron, last time i played Rogue Squadron 2 i found that it has aged pretty well, the missions are still fun as hell and the combat was amazing, i just hope they make a new one even if its not from Factor 5 with HD graphics and better and bigger space combat.

I have faith in the devs working on the IP at the moment. I don't have faith in EA not rushing these games out and releasing broken software.

There should be a quality SW action game though. The Jedi Knight games were just so amazing and I miss them, and even TFU showed a lot of potential for a GOW-style action game in a SW setting.

With Star Wars now under Disney? What kind of games can we expect?

The last Star Wars game I have is Tie Fighter: Collector's CD-ROM. I doubt I'll see another one like it.

I liked the movies though, even the prequels.

Disney seem pretty smart (so far) about the Star Wars games I mean, they've not announced some generic movie tie in for the new film yet so Battlefront will probably be the game to go alongside the film which is a much better way of doing things in my eyes instead of just pumping out some shoddy cash in.

But yeah I'm not sure we can expect any super original or crazy ideas to release alongside the films which after all, are still going to be family orientated as the games will likely be as well.

Well, Battlefront 3 is coming, and with the new moves there are sure to be another hundred games or so... so, I am sure they will screw around and accidently make a couple good ones. KOTOR 3 FTW.

I thought TFU II was pretty entertaining (on the Wii at least, and it was a bit better received on that console much like another UNLEASHED title without the Star Wars name).

NOTHING is "quality guaranteed". This kind of attitude is why publishers are putting out shitty broken games again and again, because people keep preordering them. Stop it.

Like others have said, with the new Star Wars movies that are coming out on a regular basis I'd wager that we'll see more games releasing. I'm hoping for a new KotOR someday. I'm excited for the new Battlefront. And I'm hoping they come up with some more nice action titles.

We'll see if Battlefront becomes a Battlefield clone with a Star Wars skin though. I'm hopeful that the game won't become that and will definitely feel like its own thing.

Seriously, Star Wars is largely awesome. Sure there's some shitty stuff about it but on the whole it's probably the most solid sci-fi series.

I could never get into star trek, although I did watch deep space nine with my father when I was younger.

Good Star wars games died like many other great genres... when publishers decided moronicle to stop focusin on PC games.

Force Unleashed franchise was s*it .... it took the Jedi Knight series ... and mutilated it into a craptastic god of war pile of crap.

DICE having battlefront has potential.... assuming it won't be a buggy mess.

But space combat? doubting it anytime this century.... look to Star Citizen to fill that void.

I really hope that the new Battlefront delivers. I quite enjoyed the second.

From what I saw, that Star Wars 1313 game looked absolutely terrible. I don't believe we lost much when it was cancelled.

@mikhail: No me, man. Theres nothing i hate more than yearly releases and unpolished games. Thats why i didnt get most Assassins Creed and CoD games.

Thats exactly my point. Other than the first months of BF4, the series have been great, and i love how DICE is respecting the Star Wars name, and taking their time developing it.

Nope. Star Wars Battlefront 3/Reboot had a chance to be amazing but EA had to ruin everything and make it an FPS.

SW Battlefront 1&2 were AMAZING TPS games and I was so hyped for a 3rd game....then EA said..."lol were turning it into an FPS game"....

...my hype dropped to zero. I am not going to even bother. TPS games are so much more better especially for the star wars franchise. I refuse to buy that garbage game now. I really hate EA for messing up so bad.

I am also still butthurt that SW1313 got cancelled AND KOTOR turned into an MMO. It's like they are not even listening to what the fans want and are just doing whatever the heck they feel like doing. Not cool.

I've only played Battlefront II (on my dad's PC; which, according to GS's review, starts in FP by default but is still third person if you allow it; as much as I like FPS, I prefer playing Battlefront in TP), but still.

All the best Star Wars games are the older ones on PC, specifically the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. I havent played what I would consider a good Star Wars game since Jedi Academy and im quite a big fan of Star Wars.

Is there any indication Battlefront this time will be different than the previous ones and will differentiate itself from Battlefield and have a decent SP campaign?

Well first off, Battlefront had a a great SP campaign. It was called Galactic Conquest, and both games had that option. Because seriously, screw stories. Stories are for games like Force Unleashed. It's not Battlefront's thing at all.

There are indications that the next Battlefront will be different. Even without any fore-knowledge I could tell you that we can expect a lot of refinements. It's a game series that aims very, very high and so there are always plenty of flaws and gaps in the experience. Just look at the huge difference between 1 and 2. It's also been a long time since then, with lots of hardware evolution.

We know that the next Battlefront won't be a direct sequel too, but instead a reboot, so it will be quite different. We can also inspect DICE to incorporate elements they know well, and despite my apathy for Battlefield, I know that Battlefront is a series that benefits from mixing in new ideas.

Also, for all of EA's flaws, they still invest a lot of time, money and resources into big name properties. EAs MO is also to do a fantastic job with the first game of a series, but then screw it up over time.

Shame it's not on ps3 and 360 though. I might have to upgrade

EA has acquired the Star Wars license, despite how in vogue it is to bash EA I'm certain they'll make some worthwhile games with the license.

If anybody is worth bashing over the Star Wars license it's Free Radical for raiding the Battlefronts III development funds to finish Haze instead and when that bombed they didn't have money to finish Battlefronts III, and despite claims they were nearly done the game was likely nowhere near being done, and even if they could have rushed a "finished" product out it was bound to suck anyways.

All the best Star Wars games are the older ones on PC, specifically the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series. I havent played what I would consider a good Star Wars game since Jedi Academy and im quite a big fan of Star Wars.

Never played any of the Rogue Squadron games, especially Rogue Leader (which was GameCube exclusive while the first one was on N64 and PC)?

Yes, I did play those games. There arent many Star Wars games I havent played.

The Rogue Squadron games were great... although I wouldn't put them above their more sim-like bretheren for actual flight (X-wing / Tie).

But I feel the Jedi Knight games were in a complete league of their own and way ahead of their time.

FPS + Fleshed out Jedi Combat mixed together (much better than battlefront did it)

Proper multiplayer with dedicated servers and huge mod support (that practically added space battles in where you could board a star destroyer etc.)

Branching story archs (Academy) and RPG elements.

ACTUALY MP MODES OTHER THAN FRIGGIN TDM/CTF/F4A .... back in the glory days of FPS games before consoles took the limelight ... where "Assault/Campaign" MP modes were more popular because you required team work, certain classes and the maps actually progressed like missions!

Lowest common denominator S*it that sells in the millions on consoles killed lots of great things.
