It seems like this game is on the verge to becoming the de facto king of fighters this gen. Can Killer Instinct hang on and still remain relevant? I ask you SW since you know all.

If you're like me and don't have a gaming PC or a PS4 it'll stay relevant. I really like what they've done with Killer Instinct.
I'm kind of shocked any fighting game is relevant these days. I haven't cared about Street Fighter since II turbo, only the first Killer Instinct, Virtua fighter and maybe Mortal Kombat 1-3. Good on you guys for keeping it alive because it died for me along with the arcades.
Funny, I was almost going to make a thread about Arby being announced for KI season 3, but figured no one really cared or Id just get the usual sw ignorant responses. I picked it up with GwG and think its quite abit of fun, if mindless.
Still, why do we have to choose? PC gamers get both!
And frankly, isnt there enough room in the genre for more than one fighting game to be successful or worthwhile?
Also, why the hell did I type out this well thought response? We all know @SolidGame_basic never makes substantive responses to his fanboy threads.
@wolverine4262: Ill try it out in March maybe on PC, ive never got to try it out on Xbox One yet. PC needs a fighting game pretty bad.
Considering both are exclusives to competing consoles, the newer game will have no effect on the old.
And fighting games are an outlier when it comes to commercial competition. They tend to attract mostly franchise loyalists. And those who enjoy playing many different fighting games, tend to want to play them all, so there is no competition there either.
Season 3 is coming and they announced 2 new characters and the PC version is coming up.
Microsoft is fighting
There is no reason for one fighting game from a different franchise to kill off another one, it doesn't really work like that. Either a fighting game is great and people flock to play them (even old ones like MvC3) or they don't.
New fighters seldom if ever have any effect on other fighting games, that said, SFV will do a lot to kill off SFIV, a game in the same franchise and more closely related.
Street Fighter hasn't been exciting for a while. The only interesting thing about SF5 is the new story mode I'm hearing about, but if it's not on Mortal Kombat's level then SF5 will just be meh like 4 was and online play will be overwhelmed with pros n trash spammers I'm good passing on that.

@lostrib: More than your posts these days.
I'm sure that's quite the accomplishment for them
"touché "
I say it on his behalf because he probably won't but it should be said. I'm OCD that way.
If we pit them together, then yes, of course SFV will crush KI.
Biggest prize money, most competitors and largest community (soon), more long-term support, best sales. I once laughed at the upcoming "Quantum Break + KI Season 3 vs. Uncharted 4 + Street Fighter 5" lineup this spring, and I continue to laugh. Lemmings have no problem pitting PS4 vs X1 things all year long, even being obnoxious about their (ludicrous) comparisons and demanding our attention. Now we have two fighting games to compare, but they don't want to compare any more. Now they want us to be tender with our game comparisons. Awwww shucks....Who cares. I don't care if you think SF is the best fighting game on the planet or Killer Instinct is the best. Which one is going to have more of an impact on their respective consoles, the fighting game community and the world? Lemmings suddenly don't know how to talk.
What a great move on Sony's part in nabbing this exclusivity with PC as well. After Season 3 hits, Killer Instinct isn't doing much but shrinking from there. Even before SFV hit it was shrinking through its own natural rate of decay, and the boredom of seeing the same 8 people online.
SFV will be the king of EVO and where the beat drops, Lems. While the last lingering KI fanbase will resemble something more of a furry convention. Tenacious. Intimate. Their own little world.
You really come off like an alt for tormentos that speaks better English.
@speak_low: Thats SF5's lost, their the company who chose money from Sony over releasing a game like they did on 360 that was enjoyed by 5 million + i would guess.
In the competitive scene, Street Fighter V will remain far more relevant than Killer Instinct. Street Fighter V is the headlining event in this upcoming evo and it's the game with the largest prize money of any fighting game just as Street Figher IV was before it.
From my experience playing the beta, I must say it is one of the most brilliant and superb fighting engines I may have ever played. It deters dumb play and encourages smart decisions. Crush counters are excessively satisfying and it's genius that every misplaced DP gets a full crush counter combo punish.
Lol there'l be no comparison. Killer Instinct is cool, but Street Fighter is the epitome of fighters.
is killer instinct currently relevant?
To dozens of people probably, dozens!

What's Killer Instinct? Sounds like something you play if you don't have access to Street Fighter.
Killer instinct, like most other fighting games offer a different experience than SF so SFV doesn't need to kill KI as they both can be enjoyed for different reasons and both exist for fighting gamers to test their skills on.
Street Fighter V however is shaping up to be the biggest and most anticipated fighter this gen and if you are planning on missing out on this then you shouldn't even speak on the subject of fighters because you aren't much of a fighting game fan.
There is no reason to bash killer Instinct because SFV is coming out; just like there is no reason to damage control SFV because you don't have means to play or because xbox one isn't ever going to get it. I guess that is a bit of a reason for damage control :P

Yea I agree with this. I mean Street Fighter 4 and Mortal Kombat 9 were solid reboots, but the old ones were better.

Sorry bros, Fighters are relevant no matter how you feel about them
http://venturebeat.com/2016/01/14/2015-npd-the-10-best-selling-games-of-the-year/
With less platforms than any of the other games on this list, a fighter still ranked in the top 10 best selling games of 2015. Keep in mind Street Fighter is a bigger franchise than Mortal Kombat.
Killer Instinc was something during the SNES but after that it was a huge let down during the N64 days. Street Fighter did a huge come back with SFIV which isn't the case of KI
I'm not really sure what's being asked here and why were these two compared especially when I feel Mortal Kombat is the current king of fighters. Did you want to do some kind of comparison or something between SFV and KI? If that's the case, we would have loved seeing a list of the fighters and stage levels for each game, just any information about these games would've been nice. Again, not really sure what's being asked. I mean Killer Instinct is basically free-to-play and is a launch title. A paid version includes the original games and a bunch of skins. And there's a couple of seasons after which includes more content. Killer Instinct is a bonafide fighting game with new art style, new gameplay and loads of content.
While SF5 seems to be an HD remaster of SF4. But Street Fighter is the more popular fighting game. I believe there's been a SF game each generation. The art style, graphics and gameplay seem to be very similar to the last SF game. I guess Capcom is going for the if it ain't broke don't fix it route, if that's the case. Both Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat seems to be a total refresh of the franchise, while SF5 seem to play it safe. Played the beta at my bro's house and it's still fun to play though. SF5 is the newer game, so the hype of a new game is there, especially since it's a SF game a well known very popular franchise. SF is the CoD of fighting games so it's going to be very popular all gen long, especially when Capcom releases more versions of the game throughout
@SolidGame_basic: What's left of KI is a very strong and dedicated community. Right now there's 25k people watching the KI tournament on Twitch, and Maximillian Dood has the biggest fighting game channel on Youtube and is huge on Twitch and he loves KI and even works with them on the game. SFV will be a far bigger game but they'll still be plenty of people playing KI.
KI is more than relevant and will remain so even after SFV comes out
What's left of KI is 12 people still playing. If i was SF, i'd have pity and not bother crushing a game with no community
Killer Instinct Season 2 got glowing review across the board and word is Season 3 is shaping up to be better.
I personally found Street Fighter to be incredibly boring since IV came out. I loved the Alpha series and 3rd strike. IV was just...boring.
Killer Instinct feels a lot fresher but it doesn't have the popularity or standing that Street Fighter does. Hell, it could be better and Street Fighter fanboys would never admit it.
Used to be a huge fighting game fan until the early 2000's. Kinda lost their appeal to me I guess.
@Blabadon: Pretty much. Street Fighter is basically untouchable when it comes to fighters, it pretty much invented the genre.
KI never reached such popularity, and probably never will, but I see it as a nice little niche title that has amassed a passionate following. I've never had an issue finding a match, they recently had a tourney over the weekend I think, and the Season 3 changes are looking awesome.
SF5 will most likely steal a few KI players at launch, but when the dust settles you will basically have a game with a moderate following as you have today. If anything, the extra competition will make them try harder to shine with S3, so I see it as a great thing overall that SF5 is entering the scene.
Why do people care so much about Street Fighter now that it's not on Xbone?
I dont think that's fair.... Street Fighter has been wildly popular since the days of the Arcade. SF2 was a smash on SNES. Its the biggest fighter series in gaming and continues to draw large crowds at EVO.
SF has always been relevant, and has a huge following of people that care. The new exclusivity does not change that.
EDIT: The thread topic could have referred to MKX and the results would have been the same.
