The ATari Jaguar was realy bad but this is something else. Big money, MS has so much money invested in this and things are so much bigger now.

makes you wonder if microsoft is committing console suicide so more people go back to the pc. more pc's equals more people buying windows. Microsoft can't possibly be this stupid? This console is completely gross and I can't see anyone in their right mind buying it.
the ps3 that had your ass in a knot this entire gen, yep that PS3.bigger flop than poor ps3? doubt it. :(

That's the thing though. Look how cumbersome and ridiculous that is. In a day and age when everything is becoming smaller and more portable, Microsoft releases this behemoth of a console with a bunch of crap noone wants.
I think we can safely summarize Microsoft's vision of the Xbox one in 3 words:
Sports, TV, Call of Duty
I highly doubt it.
Tbh, it may end up being the most successful console of all time if they hit it big enough with the mainstream as a one stop entertainment device.
It could end up being a huge flop in the eyes of gamers while still being wildly successful.

what scares me is microsoft is going to buy up a bunch of stuff and get exclusive rights to the nfl and games like COD so the masses will be forced to use this thing while MS spies on them. If they do that then how aren't a monopoly?

System Wars is not the world - as the Kinect selling 24+ million should indicate.
Is the Xbox One that large? My full tower to my left is large, ~2ft tall, ~8" wide and ~3ft deep. Thats large.
I highly doubt it.

Except, who's looking for a one stop entertainment device for the home theatre/living room? :| These areas have space. Heck, they have shelves devoted to holding however many devices we desire. If thisx was a mainstream desire, HTPCs would've become a hit a decade ago.
Talking heads look at smartphones and say "people want all-in-one" except, our smartphones ARE our one stop entertainment devices. So we don't need a jack of all trades box for the living room. People want devices that do one thing a lot better than our phones and tablets do that one thing.
Don't know you have to be really stupid to get one over the PS4,but then again the world is full of stupid people.
tormentos
From the perspective of a gamer and given what we know right now, I agree.
But if they play their cards right and market this to the masses as a one stop entertainment device (yes I'm repeating earlier post) then I could see this thing taking off easily.

You may be completely right. I dont know. And I'm not trying to predict it really, but I'm sure if I told you about how things are today back in 05 it would sound pretty ridiculous.
This thing could be big if they play it right. Or it could be a total flop. No telling really.

I can respect that, and you're right: sometimes the craziest stuff ends up on top. I just feel strongly that we're watching device makers stumble on the idea they can convert their business model to follow the smartphone explosion, and I just don't think they're on the right track. Heck, the Xbox One really doesn't offer THAT much more in the way of entertainment options than we had with the 360... instead MS seems to think the "Killer App" is that we all hate our remotes enough to plunk the cash down to talk and wave at our TVs. Because, you know, smartphones. Let's just say I'm highly skeptical. Heck, I'm skeptical that their core market even consumes TV the way they think they do.

You make good points and there is much to be skeptical about. If MS makes this thing take off it would be mostly due to marketing and consumer ignorance rather than functionality.
Its definitely an interesting time with so many unknowns.
For my part, I hope it doesnt see too much success. Nothing personal against MS, I just dont want this to become what others try to emulate. I would like to see game consoles continue to focus on games above all else for as long as they're around.

So let me see if I understand this. The Xbox which got Microsoft's foot in the door and the 360 which has turned a profit for Microsoft is a flop? How in the hell does that make any sense.
Everyone, those two systems and the PS3 are NOT FLOPS! For the love of god, at least two of those systems have sold over 70 million units each! Going by the questionable logic of what a flop is, then the SNES, Genesis, N64, and NES were all flops since they sold less then the Xbox 360 and PS3.
A flop is not a system that you might dislike. A flop in the purest sense of the word wht it refers to video games is a system that fails to make an impact in the market and generally fails in the marketplace.
The 3D0, 32X, CD-I, Atari Jaguar, Gizmondo, Game.com. Ngage, Atari 5200, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Atari Lynx, and Virtua Boy are real examples of flops in the gaming market. They were all systems that failed to make any kind of impact and were generally off store shelves within 2 to 3 years.
Like it or not, the PS3 and 360 are not flops due to their success in the market, and the fact they are still being supported! Hell, the Wii U is not a flop yet due to being a newer system and the fact that it has already outsold most of the system I listed.
Now, can we please stop listing systems that are clearly not flops or failures?

All of this sh1t on System Wars is nothing more than knee-jerk reactions to the One's initial presentation.

Do some research on the Virtual Boy, the thing was a bigger failure than the Gizmondo.
I can't think of a realistic situation in which this console "flops".
You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think that this console isn't going to sell like crazy at launch.
The exclusive-hungry core gaming market is a complete joke, and anybody who posts in these forums is of the opinion that these forums are an accurate portrait of outside opininos.
The truth is: .
-99% of the games are multiplatform. Sony isn't going to win over a significant amount of people with that 1%. MS gained market share last year.
-99.9% of people won't be able tell any difference in graphics between either console. You can talk for hours about "OMGZ THE GRD3888RAM iS CRAZY"...but nobody cares. The Wii outsold everybody last gen.
-The big XBOX franchises have always put up great sales numbers, and there is no reason to think that things will be different this time. Do you think Halo release parties are going to become ghost towns? Good luck with that.
-You are going to start finding people buying the XBOXONE console for reasons other than gaming. This is HUGE for Microsoft. Might not sit well with people who like to pretend that they are "core gamers", but you are absolutely lying to yourself if you don't think Sony cares about the casual market as much as MS does. MS is just going to execute it better.
In the end - I don't give a $#$%. I make good money and I'll be buying both. But at some point you have to look at yourself in the mirror and realize how ridiculous you sound: You are calling this console the biggest flop in gaming history after a one hour event? Drama queens.
