With the escalating rumours of the "Wii 2" or "Project Cafe" being announced by Nintendo at this years E3 I just wanted to see how gamers who bought the Wii feel about buying another Nintendo console? I personally will not buy another Nintendo home console at launch if ever again.

My G/F bought me a Wii for my xmas on the year of release and I must say I loved the console, quite quickly it became apparent that Nintendo's ability to have 3rd party support equal to the likes of Microsoft / Sony was lacking. The lack of games available that appealed to me left me going else where (PS3) for my gaming fix.

It annoys me that the 3rd party support for the Wii has been so poor in comparison to the other consoles and it's an area where you think Nintendo would have learned from their previous efforts. I like what Nintendo do - which I think is from my love for them as a kid and it's always interesting to see how they develop but for me they don't enough to keep me buying their products.

What are your thoughts?

I will likely buy Microsofts next console as my friends own it and I want to play with my mates.

It'll be the same situation that happened this generation for me.

I got a DS lite first, then I got a Wii a month later. Then two years later I got a Xbox360.

I already have a 3DS. I will get a Wii2, however I'm waiting about a year before I pick one up. I won't end up getting another console (Xbox720, PS4) until a good 3-4 years after.

If they have decent 3rd party support and hardware that's a noticeable upgrade, then maybe.

Yes, because while I know some people like to think otherwise, nintendo does learn from their mistakes... They thought possibly having lower tech on the wii would make it easier for third parties to make games for it, they also didn't think people would convert to HD tvs as quickly as they did... While it did make it easier for developers to make games for Wii sadly none of them were good... Anyone capable of making a good game could also have made one for a higher spec. system and anyone who couldn't could only really do shovelware. It actually had a reverse effect because any good developers simply didn't want to make games for the wii they wanted to work with the best tech available and push themselves.. ESPECIALLY the japanese who are in my opinion the biggest people nintendo needs to win over here..

Because of the initial failures of the Wii and the Ps3, all japanese developers converted to handhelds. For a console the wii was too outdated to really interest the japanese, and the ps3 was too expensive and too difficult to develop for.. Sure things changed about 2 years or so later, somewhat.. but that time span was enough to make the japanese market completely handheld obsessed.. so developers didn't even bother with the consoles even though they had made strides forward because thats not where the japanese hardcore gaming attention was.. Because I mean, think about it.. Where did all the Japanese developers go?!... How many good japanese games where even RELEASED this gen.??.. Like 4 or 5 TOPS?.. compare that to how many were released on the ps2... it was like about a MILLION.....So many awesome games it actually is unbelievable.. these guys who made all these awesome awesome ps2 games didn't just fall off the face of the earth they went somewhere.. They just all got too distracted making brain age clones..

So if Nintendo is going to recapture the japanese they are going to have to make the system have really good specs and I'm pretty sure they realize this. Because if you look at the history the japanes only care about making games and playing on the systems with new cutting edge tech.... They had fantastic third party support for the Super Nintendo, but when they failed to keep up with the times with the n64 and stayed with cartridges, everyone jumped ship to sony.. And then people stayed with sony when they came out and the ps2 and it had a dvd player, which they all went crazy for over there...But they need to find the right balance, the one sony had and the one they used to have between power, price and ease of development......

They also will have to go back to a more standard controller because I don't think that motion control really captured the eyes of the japanese developers and gamers nearly as much as nintendo had hoped, in fact it repelled them.

So if nintendo is able to recapture the japanese developers attention and bring them back from the weird handheld limbo they are all caught up in, then yes I will buy it, heck it might be the only system ill play, or have time for if all goes according to plan.

What about an option for those of us who are still unsure? Anyway, I might but it wouldn't be right away just like this gen. I didn't even get a Wii until this Christmas.

I'm learning that I'm more into handheld gaming anyway, so I will eventually be getting a 3DS first.

Prob not. A huge reason I bought Wii was Virtual Console for all the cIassic NES and SNES games, and full GC backwards compatability. If I had only wanted it for WIi retail games I would be a lot more disappointed then I am. I don't really have confidence that their next console will do much better then N64, GC, or WIi for 3rd party support.

I agree completely with this statement. There are some games that work great with it and others that are left better to traditional controls. I love Red Steel 2 with motion controls, but Monster Hunter Tri is much better off with standard controls. Too many examples to count, but developers knowing what would work best for their particular game is what is needed, not either one trying to be forced into a game where it doesn't go well. Street fighter would be a disaster :O

I loved the N64. I loved the Gamecube. The Wii has Skyward Sword (as long as it's a proper LoZ game & not a stupid showcase for motion controls) Monster Hunter Tri, Xenoblade & with a bit of luck, The Last Story & Pandora's Tower. As a console, I hate the Wii's motion control gimmick but love the Nintendo trademark sturdiness of the console. If the Wii 2 is more core focused than the Wii, something more akin to the N64 & GC, I'll pre-order it. But with the casual success of the Wii, a title called 'project cafe' & the rumour of a screen in the controller (......), I'm having serious doubts.

No, obviously you can make games that work for motion control and if you love to stand of an evening and play Wii fit then good for you. I like strategy, RPG, racing etc. These are TERRIBLE with motion control, absolutely awful in the extreme. Give me a M&KB or gamepad/wheel setup anytime.

Enjoy your Red Steels and Boom Blox,if they are the epitomy of motion control gaming then count me out.

The third party support thing is silly considering that Wii had a mass of great third party games, just because it didn't have the same titles are 360 and PS3 doesn't mean it had none. And it was never going to get the 360/PS3/PC games, why spend a ton of extra time, use a completely different engine etc, when you can just skip a Wii version. On top of that the Wii 2 is a completely separate console, why treat it as if it's going to work out the same way the Wii did. If we all used that logic the PS3 has sold 100 million consoles and is beating Microsoft into a pulp.

I also agree that it has it's place.

Biggest problem for me? Having enough room to play with multiple people on my Kinect or my Wii. It's painfull trying to cram people who are waving arms about into the space I have available. Not all of us live in countries where houses are bigger than the park I walk my dog in.

Err no. The Kinect is horrible if there are other people around in your roomand no amount of programming will change that. People like to move about, sensors pick that up. Hell the damn thing thought the arm of my chair was a person the other day and kept telling me to move them out of view *boggle*. The Wii has a massive lack of decent driving games and this is not because developers couldn't 'work it out right' it's because driving with your hands in the air or holding onto a small batton does not feel good and is not accurate enough.

Tiny movements with motion control suck and suck hard. Fighting games as mentioned above suck hard. So many things that it can't do well :(.

After gc and wii i've come to the conclusion it would be idiotic of me to purchase any nintendo system at launch. I'll buy it 4-5 years later and purchase the 10 games worth playing for it on the cheap. I wish i used this strategy before instead of leaving my wii/gc collecting dust for 3+ years.

[QUOTE="campzor"][QUOTE="LastRambo341"] Yea because games like Wii Fit, Red Steel 2 and Boom Blox SUUUURREEE work or play fun on the gamepad, right?LastRambo341

they could easily work with a gamepad :| Only that they wont get noticed cause u wont see people flailing their arms playing it with a gamepad

No, they will not work well on the gamepad. Motion controls have place in gaming

rubbish.. there is barely anything motion controls can do that gamepads cant do...and better.

I honestly regret buying the Wii but the Gamecube was great. I know I can enjoy a Nintendo console so it just depends on the direction they take. E.G It would have to have more core games than Wii, E.G Smash bros ahead of Wii music It would have to be at least a bit more powerful than PS3 I would hope motion controls aren't standard Also a proper online service.

Its just like saying there is no need to move forward to expensive HD graphics when we have SD graphics that look good. As a Wii owner for 4 years, I know what I'm talking about. You? Well you either don't have one or haven't fully played it enough to know anything about it

If it has some games that appeal to me then I will definitely buy it. By that I mean, some great new exclusives other than Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong type games. Nothing against those games, I have simply had enough of them is all. No, I am not talking about just 'TeH MatUrE BlOoD aNd GuTz GaMeZ' either, lol. Just some new and interesting titles that offer a nice variety.

If they have decent 3rd party support and hardware that's a noticeable upgrade, then maybe. Heil68
yeah, if there's barely an upgrade over ps360 I wont bother until it's very cheap.

[QUOTE="LastRambo341"] If the developers make them work sense and work well, then they will be no problemLastRambo341

1) Dance Central for one 2) Mario Kart works really well with the wiimote as well as MK: Armageddon.

Like I said, it has a few applications it works well with. A few.

Does that mean the main control system on your console should be that and only that? No. Mario Kart can barely be called a racing game and is so noobified with motion controls that anyone decent playing it is using the classic controller, as was discussed in detail after launch.
