Do you think Microsoft will test their console hardware better next gen before releasing it? Will you buy the Xbox 720 when it comes out?

If there is anything that Microsoft won't mess up, it's the hardware.

I didn't trust Microsoft's hardware in the days of the classic Xbox (of which I was a big fan, by the way), so after the 360 and its apparent 23% failure rate there's no chance in hell I'm gonna trust the next generation of Microsoft consoles.

Most likely they are going to pay careful attention to the hardware next gen. Not because they are some excellent company or anything, but simply because they don't want another headache as huge as the one that RROD caused them.

Yes I would and just because the way they handled it this generation was good enough for me. What do I mean by that? Well yes the hardware was faulty, but you know what when my elite got the red ring, I filled out the online form, sent in my 360, and it came back with an extended warranty and not issues. Also no charges. All in all they made a mistake, paid dairly for it and treated the customers the best that they possibly could. I know that in some cases people had problems and had a hard time, but hey its going to happen. Hopefully this time around they don't have th faultiness to begin with.

They best come out with the most reliable hardware ever seen next gen or people will go nuts. :P I wont buy a launch console, i know that much. They've lost out on a sale already.

Yes. They stepped up this gen and offered a supremely good warranty for the issues... so I have no doubt the hardware will either be really good, or backed up by a killer warranty. However, it all depends on what games are on the platform and if they interest me or not. I can possibly see myself becoming a Sony man again if Sony keeps up with the games their getting.

I'm sure it will be better than the 360 hardware wise, but I sure as hell am not going to by a launch system. Even though mine were repaired for free, it's a pain to have to keep sending them down for repair.

No. Not after the Thomson drives in the original Xbox and the Red Ring of Death this time around. I was hit twice by the Thomson drives and everyone I know with a 360 has been hit with the RRoD at least once, including me. A lot of people forget what a piece of crap the original Xbox was in terms of reliability, likely because the PS2's DRE overshadowed it. Microsoft is 0-for-2 in terms of hardware reliability. What kind of idiot would I be to expect next time around to be any different?

Apparently you aren't aware of the Thomson and Phillips DVD-ROM drives... Only late-model Xbox consoles were anything decent. The early revisions were terrible.

yeah. I'd trust any new hardware until its announced to have a high failure rate. besides MS is probably starting from yesterday in designing the next xbox. There's no doubt that they'll not repeat this gen's record again.

i have more faith in their licensing department. so it'll be the same as now, next xbox will be my primary and the ps... whatever will be my back up...

But the question is when will the next ps... whatever come out. i have to imagine it will be a long time. i think they will be "delayed" in the next system cycle for a couple years at least.

Windows 7 isn't hardware and the Xbox 360 is still more likely to fail than any other console, Jasper chip or no.

I highly doubt they'll make that mistake again, just as I'm sure Sony learned its lessons this gen.

Leaving aside that I've just sold my 360 to get a PS3 because of the games, not hardware, I'll say that I wouldn't buy either a Sony's or Microsoft's next gen console until it's somewhat settled in the industry, say 2 years after its initial release. Last gen proved to me you shouldn't get new hardware as soon as it comes out.

You sir, are a very smart consumer.

That's exactly how consumer electronics should be approached.....especially game consoles.

No, they'll do the same thing any company would do. Put out a product, cutting corners wherever possible and hope that the profits outweigh the costs. To believe otherwise is just fanboy naivety. If the RROD hadn't gotten so ridiculously out of hand, they wouldn't have done anything. But massive failures across the board didn't leave them any other choice. If you buy a launch console and it fails, the fault is your's for being a guinea pig, not a corporation's for trying to make money.
