[QUOTE="DonPerian"].... Um what? Just like the 360, and the Zune, and their awesome PC peripherals? I think you made a typo here. Software is the one thing you can count on MS for. Hardware? Not their forte. They'll make it good enough to pass muster at the beginning, but cheap out on stuff like disc drives and moving parts. I will never trust MS's hardware. Will I buy the next Xbox anyway? You betcha. The Zune and their peripherals? Are they known for being problematic? I've never had a problem with my classic Zune or HD, and I find their peripherals I use tend to be very comparable to their Logitech equivalents for reliability. Not to mention the Sidewinders I used to use. Personal experience, but, the 360 is the first piece of MS hardware I've ever really known of to have a really noteworthy technical issue. My MS wireless mouse and keyboard used to prevent my screensaver from starting up not long after Vista's release, but that was patched (software issue) and that was that.If there is anything that Microsoft won't mess up, it's the hardware.

Ah yes, the post as a whole was stupid. Again, technically speaking, true - the 360 did fail because people played it too much. The problem was, MS made it so if you played it as much as your average person played a console it would fail. MS really bunngered the 360 up in the early going. At least they had the gumption to cover for it (something you can't credit Sony for their first two attempts at hardware), but I really hope they learned their lesson and think original XBOX rather than 360 when making their next piece of hardware.[QUOTE="DraugenCP"]
I bolded it because I was gonna type something about the NES, but I didn't. My comment was directed at his entire post, i.e. at people playing 360 too much being the reason behind its legendary failure rate.

Well, technically, yeah. But 'playing it too much' can hardly be suggested as a reason, seeing as nobody buys an Xbox so they can look at it sit on a shelve. They'll want to play it, and if the hardware's too poor to support a decent gaming session, there's really no question whose fault that is.
But about the service: let's keep in mind that Microsoft only conceded after they could no longer cover up the problem. I think it's differen in every country, but at least in Holland they also denied a common disc scratching problem and claimed it was the fault of the players. Same for RRoD. After they got some exposure on national television they suddenly gave in, and that doesn't really establish a good sense of trust between the consumer and the company if you ask me.
I must say, though, that Microsoft did attempt to fix my original Xbox for free several times, only they claimed to have replaced the power supply while it later appeared they didn't. Then they sent every Xbox owner a new power supply cable due to an apparent safety risk with the old one, and my Xbox finally worked again. They're a weird company. But generally speaking the old Xbox was better than the first 2 Sony consoles I think. The PS2 was dodgy as hell. But overall, I've always trusted Nintendo hardware the most. Even though the Wii has some problems, it's rock solid in comparison to the other consoles, and if I were to choose my next gen console on basis of reliability, I'd go for them in a heartbeat.

I'm mainly joshing you ;) The guy you responded to was a knob and pretty much just an MS apologist trying to make light of MS's blatant and indefensible screwup... Also, I entirely realize that 3 year plan was only put in place after they got caught with their pants down - hence "right thing for the wrong reason." And yep, Nintendo has by *far* the most reliable hardware. Last one of their products I ever had trouble with was the NES, and it still works to this day - just gives me a bit of trouble. But about the service: let's keep in mind that Microsoft only conceded after they could no longer cover up the problem. They fail because people won't stop playing them! Any electronic device that's kept on for so long, will eventually succumb to the heat. It just so happens that the 360 has such a stellar library that gamers can't stop playing it! Therefore causing it to combust! Most 360s stay on 24/7. The next Xbox will be fine, and I got a feeling you will be missing out on the fun![QUOTE="godzillavskong"][QUOTE="GramDubs"]
23%??? LOL, i read 50% and everyone i know with an xbox had it fail on them more then once.

Do you really believe this? I mean, really? That must be one of the single most ignorant comments I've read on SW ever, and that really says something as the competition isn't weak.
Its called sarcasm. Ease up! Calm down and try not to pull a muscle.[QUOTE="DraugenCP"][QUOTE="godzillavskong"] They fail because people won't stop playing them! [QUOTE="hellhund"][QUOTE="Boomshaffted"] Technically speaking, he's actually right. Heating up and then cooling down repeatedly actually stresses any material and causes it to degrade over time. Now, well designed electronics will last for a long, long, long time, and the 360 is obviously not well designed in this (or other) rights, but... Strictly speaking, the bolded part is entirely true.Boomshaffted
The bolded part is right but its also completely vague. Everything degrades, whether its used or not, especially modern appliances and electronics.
I didn't suggest otherwise, and I made it *clear* that I wasn't attempting to defend MS's shoddy hardware. I just found it funny that the guy was saying "do you really believe this? I mean, really?" about something that's a basic truth about more or less anything. It's actually such a fundamental truth about things that we more or less don't even count it... If I say "Oh, it own't degrade if you don't play it" - not true, because it already is degrading, but in the common vernacular, we accept it because we take a certain level of degradation as just granted. Thanks. I was being sarcastic, but I guess some people couldn't see that. I was joking, but a lot of people I know that have all 3 consoles end up playing the 360 a lot more. That being said, the failure rate for something being played a lot more should be higher. I'm not defending the faulty hardware, since we all know it had a major issue, but rather poking fun up here.[QUOTE="hellhund"][QUOTE="Boomshaffted"] Technically speaking, he's actually right. HELL NO!!!!! I made the change to a PS3 and couldn'y be any happier!hkymikeSays the dreamer with PSN>XBL in his sig. I own both and its not close lol.
Yep. I trust them more now. A friend got a PS3 around the same time that I got my 360. My E74'd after about a year and I got it fixed for free. His PS3 died after about a year and he had to pay $150 to get it fixed. It all boils down to money for me and one is a clear cut better situation than the other.Senor_KamiYou have a point there, I bought my 360 in '07 and a friend of mine bought his PS3 in '08. I got the RROD last week and it is being fixed for free, his PS3 quit reading discs and he has to pay $179 to get his fixed.
I would never trust a company that makes malware called Windows Vista.
Add to that gimped hardware called xbox360.
No. Never.

Come again?
that's this gen. :?
I'm going to be open minded, who knows, maybe if they don't rush it it won't have issues, or less of a major one.
I'll probably buy the next gen Xbox on or near launch day like I did with the 360 but...let's just say that I'll be getting an extended warranty before I leave the store...
Like a lot of posters already said in this thread, I think I'm gonna wait a year or so before I "jump in" with all the next gen consoles, unless they have great launch line-ups. I seriously doubt that will happen though.I'll probably buy the next gen Xbox on or near launch day like I did with the 360 but...let's just say that I'll be getting an extended warranty before I leave the store...
