Yep. MS wont make the same mistake twice.

treedoor

They already did. XBox 1 was terrible hardware wise and 360 was ten times worse.

I don't know a single person who had their Xbox break down, and there were dozens of them amongst my friends last gen.

I was just about to say the same thing....

Depends. What are they going to do? Use state of the art hardware/have a headstart? Then i won't trust them for at least a year.
If its launch isn't rushed, and it doesn't use wacko technology, then i will trust them on their hardware. (But it would take a lot for me to be swayed to get one instead of upgrading my pc.)

I think they'll be more careful this time around, however if Sony decides to be arrogant again and jack up the price of their console again to the point where it is $200-$300 more than the next Xbox, Microsoft may end up not caring again, since so many people will end up buying their cheaper console regardless of hardware issues.

It was still cheaper than 360 with live. (Though it wasn't a good deal no. Should have left BluRay out and make better online service with keyboard compatibility straight away >_> and save bc for europe)

My very first original Xbox went belly up. It stopped reading discs out of the blue one day.

I will trust them, I dont think they will make the same mistake next gen. I am not worried about it either way though. My 360 was just as bad as my PS2, the only difference is that Sony never stood by their console.

It's hardware...

...from Microsoft...

...

Need I say more?

dkrustyklown
so lets see. Microsoft mice was reliable and great, keyboards? when they made routers reliable and good, original xbox was reliable... Please don't generalize Microsoft hardware as bad...because I have no examples of good Microsoft hardware then you do bad.

[QUOTE="savebattery"]No. Not after the Thomson drives in the original Xbox and the Red Ring of Death this time around. I was hit twice by the Thomson drives and everyone I know with a 360 has been hit with the RRoD at least once, including me. A lot of people forget what a piece of crap the original Xbox was in terms of reliability, likely because the PS2's DRE overshadowed it. Microsoft is 0-for-2 in terms of hardware reliability. What kind of idiot would I be to expect next time around to be any different?

except if thats the case then all systems failed in reliablity...because the original tomson dvd drives were a small portion of the population. and since thats the case all small portions of unreliability means its a failure in reliablility.

so...the original xboxes failure rate was 6%? 40%? 3%?

Since the failure rates we've heard this gen are 60%, 40% and 30%...and less...and since the 360 was 10 times worse, the original xbox hard either 6, 4, or 3% failure rate...all of which are perfectly acceptable On last checking...

Well looking at history, such as Sony's last gen problems to this one for example, you won't have much of a problem as long as you don't repeat the same mistakes that made your console glitch in the first place, keep future failure rates to acceptable levels, and of course have the attractive games. (Although even though the PS3 is in third place, fear of glitches weren't the reason Sony dug themselves into a hole this gen)

Personally i'll just wait for a bit, but i do that for all consoles. I wait until a solid library is there and i got the money.

I'm sure microsoft will want to avoid any issues with the hardware next time. Sony made sure the problems they faced with the ps2' hardware didn't come back with the ps3. Also lets not forget the xbox's hardware had no real issues.

Yeah, the PS2 was a pile of crap when it came to reliability. Now look at the PS3, very well built. Id say Microsoft have learnt their lesson.

I do however have a feeling MS may continue its trend of poor hardware. People say that MS looked at RROD but despite this problem, and consumers knowing the problem, they continued to purchase it anyway. MS will most like cut corners and rush like they did with the 360 because they know gamers are the weakest bunch when it comes to consoles.

I will wait and see what they plan to do with the hardware before committing to one. However I've only had two game machines fail on me (PS2 and Xbox 360) I am sure if i found out my old SNES it would be working perfect.

or....they will not rush when developing it's hardware and try to avoid so much negative attention from the media next generation.

I've learned that past performances in hardware don't equate to future experiences. For instance, the PSX and PS2 (albeit I did not have issues with these) were not exactly the best in terms of quality, and then comes the PS3.

I never trust hardware OR software from Microsoft, However I am a windows user, and I own a 360 which runs fine. But I mean Windows has so many problems and hell when I had Vista on my Laptop it would Blue Screen whenever I had to re-connect to the VPN. Another time I've had windows Vista running on a computer and I went to control panel to tweak sound settings, Blue Screen... So much for them being a software company either.

However, Windows 7 has been running flawlessly...Knock on wood...since I've put it on my laptop. And I do remember that everybody I knew who had a PS2 last Gen, theirs all broke, until the slims, those seemed to be fine. So I mean Sony had hardware fail last gen as well, (except everybody's PS2 who broke was after years of owning one)

So anyways, yes, I will trust MS next gen, seeing as they might have put out crap before (Vista before 2 service packs and tons of updates, Launch 360's) their next console will be better quality.

I will wait at least one year till the last next generation console has launched to be able to compare the shortcomings of each next generation console when it comes to hardware reliability and durability.

Exactly. I also doubt that the vast majority of gamers would have completed their backlog of games, giving them time to catch up on the previous generation.

I didn't trust Microsoft's hardware in the days of the classic Xbox (of which I was a big fan, by the way), so after the 360 and its apparent 23% failure rate there's no chance in hell I'm gonna trust the next generation of Microsoft consoles.

DraugenCP

23%??? LOL, i read 50% and everyone i know with an xbox had it fail on them more then once.

I really think itll be like when PS3 came out compared to the PS2. PS2 had some pretty bad hardware failures in teh beginning, and with PS3, SONY fixed all taht by buildinga console that has a very low failure rate. I can see MS doing the same thing with the new XBOX.

I think so.

The Original Xbox was built like a brick and mine still works flawlessly to this day. And 360 was......in reality......rushed out the gates.

Next gen....crosses fingers.....I think MS will have learned their lessons from RROD. So I'm pretty hopeful.

The only issue with the original xbox was its disc tray that was natorious for sticking. I had to go through two because the damn thing wouldnt open.

I actually trust MS for next gen more then I do SONY at this point. MS gave us some many new features with 360, and they pretty much beat SONY at their own game. So really, I would bet my money on MS going into next gen over SONY. SONY has jsut made too many mistakes this gen. Sure, theyre kinda all fixed now, but whats to say SONY wont do the same **** next gen? I will still buy both consoles though.

I really really doubt they'll want to spend billions replacing consoles again, so I'd imagine they'll be more careful next time.

Also as much as it sucked when my 360 died, they replaced it with surprisingly little hassle. So overall I don't think it's really damaged my opinion of Microsoft.

I also find it funny that peopel seemed to be flaberghasted when 360 keeps selling so well, even though peopel know they keep breaking. Dont people realize that if you really like a game console, chances are when it breaks youll probaly replace it?

I bought the original xbox it had a defective dvd drive then the power supply melted the board. This time I bought the 360 and had two die on me with the rrod. I would have to be a real moron to buy another console from microsoft. I will stick with sony and if nintendo gets some decent hardware I will get that system. As far as I am concerned microsoft is dead to me.

To be quite honest, I would trust their hardware a lot more, as everyone has said, MS doesn't want to lose money. That said, I will stick with Sony primarily. However, whether or not I go for a launch console again or not is up in the air. My 60GB's video card pooped out on me ~3 years after launch, cost me an additional ~$160. That is BS. but I paid it because it's a 60GB, and BROKEN i could probably get $200 for it. That said, the PS2 I bought in 2002 (or something early 2000's) still works to this day, never had a problem. I understand that not everyone has problems with their consoles.. but I trust Sony enough already, and I prefer to stick with what I know. But I have a feeling we won't see the next gen of consoles before 2011, and they MIGHT come out late 2012, and by then we'll all be reduced to little piles of ashes anyway, so *shrug*
