Its funny people rip on VG charts but there really not that inaccurate.
AM-Gamer
Yes they are. There's a reason no serious website, forum, or business uses them for their numbers.
Look at the overall numbers that are reported and look how close they are to VG charts.
That doesn't stop them from not being very credible, fact is they use predictions and guesswork to get numbers - which is detrimental to any discussion where sales are the focus. Wait for the official numbers to be released.I think your a little off on judging all consoles by saying you can only get sales with an FPS. Arkham city sold very well and sold far better on consoles, Dark souls also sould over 1.2 million copies. Although alot of trash sells on consoles the pc is no better.
AM-Gamer
Doing it on purpose. I wasn't being serious with half the stuff I posted just then.
BTW Arkham City sold less because it wasn't released at the same time. Also PC games sell over time, not all at once. Unfortunately many publishers still don't understand that.

VG Chartz doesn't track digital, changes numbers after NPD/official statements (sometimes not at all,) and guesses with no real formulas.

Well im primarily a console gamer and I bought the Wticher 2 , I thought it was great( a reason to actually dust off the ole 360)
If we want to go by generlizations then all console gamers do is play COD and Motion control games while all pc gamers do is play free to play face book and browser games.

I dont know I just dont think they did a good job marketing it , and I think it would have also sold better on the PS3 . If a game like Darksouls can hit 1.2 million Witcher should be able to do it as well. They had an outstanding trailer for that game they should have posted it all over.

TW2 was never a high-budget title to begin with. 8 million is pathetic compared to even rushed console titles. It had very, very little marketing on PC and sold 1.2 million based mostly on word of mouth. Their marketing budget was very small. It's not because they didn't, it's because they couldn't. Honestly, they didn't need to market it. The success on PC guaranteed a sequel alone.
Dark Souls has combat. The Witcher 2 has combat, graphics, music, and story. Dark Souls was released on two platforms worldwide during the holiday season while TW2 was released in May on just PC.

got love morons who bashing VGchart # without any clue, remember there's a day when a basement dweller opened a post accuesing VGchart guessed their way through to get the # just becaues they didn't like the sales # on a game they liked, next thing you know, every airheads jumped on the hating bandwagon. guess what? they still script their website, providing their "fake data" make a good living while you imbeciles are still 35 year old live in your mom's basement and beg her to buy you games and calling everything didn't lean to your interest "bad" or "fake"
NDP and VGcharts are using scientific method to gather data and conclude their result, calling they are a fuard, what better # can you provide?
The sale # from VGchart for TW2 btw, are absolute correct or 99% close to NPD data. according to CD project themslves the witcher franchise only sold a mere 1.5 mil combine TW1, TW1EE, and TW2 and TW2EE add a mere .29 to the total. pity.
that means 1.1 million from TW2 since Feb, which exactly matchs VGchart data
http://www.gamespot.com/news/the-witcher-franchise-sells-15-million-in-2011-6350775
Not only TW2 flops on conosle, but it flopped on PC too. after so many marketing trailer. CGI, interview. remarketing, relaunch. and this. pity Garbage game goes where garbage belong.

ROFL!! excellent come back with sales # proof and great logic genius
still a 2 words troll I see, I know you can't stop worshiping crysis2 but what does that 1 milliion sold the wetsh1t 2 got anything on crysis2? the only thing below the wetsh1t 2's market costing vs sales copy raito is your IQ. and you need to accept it.

VG Chartz doesn't get access to worldwide data. Theyre pretty accurate when it comes to US sales because if they're wrong they update, but their worldwide numbers are most of the time complete shots in the darkhopefully they are wrong because it is a great game with a great development team that needs supporting.
I dont know I just dont think they did a good job marketing it , AM-Gamer
Making a "good job" marketing it would cost more than the game's development budget.
Doubt it. PS3 is strongest in Europe and there a large portion of the audience bought the game for PC alreadyand I think it would have also sold better on the PS3 .

how many times you need to read the same numbers over and over and get it wrong?? for 1 last time(write it down if it's too much for your brain to handle) TW2's development cost is 8 million EURO which roughly round up to 11-12million USD, that's a huge budget for a single platform game that doesn't even sale, not to mention it refinanced for 360 release, which is at least double that with new CGI trailers, website ads, interview hype videos etc. yet dark souls/demon souls developing cost/marketing cost are only 1/3 of that which easily out sold the piece of turd TW2 half of the time. both are greatest games of all time even with least developing and market cost among any modern video games.
every RPG has combat, but TW2's stinks, for 1, CD project themselves admit they copied demons souls, which failed to capture 0.1% the greatness of demon's souls combat syetem.

You bring up dark souls name because your inferior complex, admit it.
you are just as fail as TW2, admit it.
No suprise it's a mediocre game imo. Navigating the enviroment is very restricted and clunky. Dungeons are uninspired in their design (villages and and outdoor areas are beautiful though). Combat is also outdated. Roll-strike-roll is not something I wanna do anymore. Combine that with a very generic set of enemies and it's just a chore (and whoever came up with the win-button should be fired). Inventory is complicated in a way that is not meaningfull. What is great however is the story/characters. That's where TW2 truly shines. This is pretty ironic, because Hermits are hyping a game with shallow mechanics that is primarily an interactive movie. As such it should work well on consoles. Problem is the production values are a bit too low for the very competetive console market in this genre.Sushiglutton

That would happen only if it was xbox 360 exclusive
Fable 2 that is exlusive sold 4 million !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is 4 times what Witcher 2 sold on PC, because piracy on xbox is minimal and people buy games and dont pirate them only
Fable 2 has been out since 2008. Plus the game has been heavily bundled with the 360, such as in the 2011 holiday season.
Also you compare a month sales to the sales after 1.5 year on PC ?
To put it in perspective, Witcher 2 has already done 30% of PC sales in a few DAYS on xbox 360, so will probably surpass PC sales by millions eventually
I love how you destroy your argument in your own post, W2 had a good start on PC but the sales afterwards were ABYSMAL, while on consoles will keep selling huge, especially in holidays and there are not 100.000.000 pirates waiting to get it free like on PC
And usually Vgchartz is way off, Witcher 2 was top in the NPD list, so the numbers would be much higher, even for the few days it is on the market

Honestly, you are one of the biggest morons on this forum. And insulting the other guy for getting the currency wrong and calling him stupid, when you cant even spell properly and construct proper sentences is ironic and hypocrisy at its finest. Then again, what can one expect from idiots such as yourself on SW? Dark Souls 2 is a good game, but it is a different type of game than TW2. Either way though, TW2 is the superior game. It has beter production values (voice acting, graphics, art style, music), it has a deep story line (vs. the essentially non-existent story of DS2). It has fairly deep and difficult combat mechanics. Overall, from a purely objective perspective, TW2 is the better game. But hell, what am I doing arguing with an uneducated kid such as yourself? You are too much of a fanboy to see the bigger picture. And too uneducated to make concise, rational arguments. No suprise it's a mediocre game imo. Navigating the enviroment is very restricted and clunky. Dungeons are uninspired in their design (villages and and outdoor areas are beautiful though). Combat is also outdated. Problem is the production values are a bit too low for the very competetive console market in this genre.SushigluttonIf the Witcher 2 is a mediocre game, then what is a good game? I am sorry but I completely disagree with your opinion on this one. Because frankly, if Witcher 2 is mediocre, might as well call 99% of the other games that get released "mediocre". The area navigation is not clunky, and not too restrictive (granted the game is not as open a TW1). The areas are still more open that most games (far more open than ME areas for example). The dungeons are pretty good, certainly better (imo) than the ones in games such as Oblivion, Skyrim, and etc. The enemies are not generic and are pretty good. I really dont see how you have issues with the enemy variety and types. I do agree the combat is not the best in the world, but I still think its good. It is just very challenging and CDPR did not do a good job of having a tutorial that explains how it works. But overall it is a fairly deep, challenging, and exciting combat system. I do agree though that the inventory system is not the greatest. It is a lot of flash, but lacks in the usability area. That being said, it is not complicated at all, just less intuitive than others. Lastly, low production values? The game has great music, great acting, and great graphics. In terms of the X360, it looks better than the majority of the games on the system. So how exactly does it have low production values?
Well, I can't say I wouldn't wish much better numbers for Witcher 2 EE, but at least I find comfort in fact that CDP is profitable for now
Iwinski ran through the revenue split between the different sections of CD Projekt Red S.A.'s operations:
Games Development Revenue 48.6m PLN, net profit 19.5m PLN
Digital Distribution Revenue 27.8m PLN, net profit of 4.7m PLN
Games and DVD/Blu-Ray distribution/publishing in Poland Revenue 67m PLN, net loss (1.8m) PLN
Others Revenue 7m PLN, net profit 1.6m PLN
(PLN is the Polish zloty ' there are roughly 3.26 zloty to the dollar, so revenues were roughly $46m at current exchange rates, with a net profit overal of $7.4m).
Iwinski noted that game development is the highest-margin part of the business, but also highlighted the growth of GOG.com, which has grown 100% year-on-year since its inception in 2008. He noted that the results of the development part include only Witcher 2 sales for PC, since the Xbox 360 version was released in 2012.
So, it sold almost half PC copies ina few days
How is that a flop exactly ?

Do you really want me to make a list? The reason console version of TW2 isn't selling as well as the Pc version is because of multiple reasons. 1st is lack advertizing if it is not pushed in their faces everywhere they go they wont know about it nor get hyped about it to buy it. Next is that this game is the sequel of a game that never was seen by the console crowd. And also not everyone likes RPG's.
Next its funny to see people here stated someone's personal estimate of pirated copies as a fact ,and also says 1 of 5 ratio between bought and pirated is still pretty good. As of December of 2011 TW2 sold more then 500,000 copies digitally when means $40 out of the $50 goes to directly CDP. Which means more then 20 million was made just with DD. And with Retail they made at least 12 million profit as of December. With a game that had a budget of around 8 million they made 3x the amount of profit of what the game cost to make.
Now also people need to realize that console sales are not like Pc sales for profit ratio nor rate of sales. Console games tend to have more added costs and to sell quickly from the start and quickly stop selling in volume weeks after release. To also point out in 2011 CDP seen over 400k in sales for the 1st Witcher with a game that's 4 years old. The Witcher 2 will keep on selling on Pc all the way to the release of the 3rd game while the console version will pretty much stop by the end of the 1st month.
