What will MS do to counter this? Also anyone know the features of PS3 Steam?

They're only porting Steamworks which means they can patch faster, play together with PC/Mac users and possibly store saves and such. What will MS do to counter this? Also anyone know the features of PS3 Steam?

and throws in community support aswell if im not mistaken. But its a good integration might make MS step up their game with GFWL tho but it seems to have just been cast to the side.

you could use the Move controller for supported, cross platform games. Though the move would still be at a huge disadvantage compared to M/KB. Or you could buy a Frag fx or Fragnstein to make it a fairly even playing field. I use the Fragnstein for all PS3 shooters online and i almost always mop the floor with other players using the dual shock. It's just Steamworks. :P
Steam won't be offered on PS3.

How do you know?
360 fanboys also said Valve will never develop on PS3.
Words cant explain how happy i would be if that happenedI know this would never happen - but imagine if Valve was able to offer Steam or a Steam-esque service on PS3 (and potentially 360), complete with popular games, sales, all the Steam goodness we love on PC, etc. How great would that be? :o

WAT! Let me ask you, why would sony put a 3rd party retailer on a closed platform?Words cant explain how happy i would be if that happened

Same here. I can only imagine having popular, console-only titles available in a Steam-esque market, with weekend sales and blowouts... it would be amazing!

I've never been much of a reseller. In fact, I haven't sold any of the games I've purchased this gen. As a PC gamer, I'm just used to installing and keeping my games, and I kept that mentality when I bought my first console (PS3). :P

Here. It was stated right in the E3 Sony conference.
It's being used in tandem with Portal 2 for things like updates. It's not the whole Steam service.

DD is probably like 10 yrs away from being popular the way options and pricing goes in NA

go to your steam library and click "grid view"
lol, DD is not the future. Why Steam gets alot of attention is due to the deals they run periodically. I want buy a $60 game from them normall, but if they sell The Witcher for like $10, I'm in lol, I just finally was able to play it this morning after basically waiting 24hours for it to download off of steam lol.
And one even has to wonder why on earth would Valve or the devs of these games be allowing their games sell for 75% off on down to 30% off, heck some of the games posted on Steam right now are less than a year old, and have a huge sale on them.
But anyway many more will always want to have a hard copy of a game over just a downloaded copy. Heck think of the games we bought off of psn now, people worry about having to keep a subscription to psn+ to keep the ones they give away, but what about the others. We do know inorder to play them you will always have to have a ps product to access psn inorder to play them right, subscription or not. Just like xbox owners will have to buy a xbox next gen or they lose the games they bought this gen from xbl.

This is incredibly baseless. There are plenty of people who buy their games through Steam sale or no sale. At the end of the day its just more convienient.
[QUOTE="BPoole96"]What does "an open system" mean ????I don't think the full steam service is going to PS3 (Unless this was announced yesterday and I didn't hear). PS3 will just get Steam updates for games made by Valve, since it's an "Open System"
2mrw
an open system is well best word to describe it is welll.....open.A few devs have taken advantage of the PSNs more open policy for example the modability of UT3,MGO being ran by Konami seperate (even tho K:ID is horrendous). It gives developers more choice on what the game does and the PSN its up to the company to police the game for rulebreakers aswell im sure in some cases.
But it gives developers a lot of space compared to XBL in some areas but the downer is the developer doesnt have the same one use standardised net code found in most XBL games but instead ones developed by themselves dunno if sony's changed that yet.
Better yet steamworks could pave the way for further steam/psn integration if say other companies got on board with the system for content delivery for games, potentially next genyou could see a PS4 with a steam-esque content delivery along with the normaloptical media found in store.(the store would be diffrent from that of the PC one) and integration it might just well hit the spot.

you're really underestimating the power that periodic sales have on gaining new long-term customers and keeping current customers happy
overall what it means is building up a loyal customer base that comes back to buy the full-priced games after the sales are over
and not all games are put on sales all the time anyhow, not to mention the cost of servers and download connections is a lot less than shipping out retail boxes - a publisher can put together a bunch of old games nobody was buying anyways and throw them in with a couple of new games and make a pack and sell it at discount and still make pretty good profit - while the consumer wins as well
but all of that is besides the point - Steam isn't coming to the PS3
Steamworks is coming to the PS3, which enables instant free updates and DLC instead of always waiting for patches and DLC to be priced and/or pre-approved by Microsoft which is incompatible with how Valve works

Ummmm Steam is already On the majority of gaming rigs that run on a windows platform that is by microsft so i don't see why they should give a **** lol and besides playstation getting steamworks which is the super basic update tool taht Steam uses, not the full platform and or program.
