What makes this topic different from others?espada12

You've conceded my point by saying this. I never discussed other games, just because other games do it does not excuse the foundation WOW is built upon. However, here you're admitting "yes, WOW does this", and simply saying "but other games do it too!". So what? That doesn't make them right. A Halo addict ranting about how Halo is the "best FPS ever", and how "no other FPS is even good", is not any more accurate.

-

In this thread we've seen the most diehard WOW supporters calling Fallout, Eldar Scrolls, Mass Effect, et cetera "crap", and "terrible games", why? Because they're into WOW. That's not right, that's not an objective viewpoint, and it certainly does not make WOW the "best combat ever". What's occuring is that WOW supporters are banding together and attempting to mob anyone who disagrees with what is, frankly, a fanatical viewpoint.

-

The idea that WOW has the "best combat ever" is absurd, Verge wasn't right saying it was "point-and-click", I would call it "script-and-pound" - plan your macros and bang your head on the keyboard, for greater victory! WOW players are confusing "complexity" with "quality" in a frustating way. Just because something is your "opinion" does not mean your opinion is accurate. The claim that WOW has the "best combat ever" does not hold up from an OBJECTIVE stance, it is something that only a WOW fan will agree to.

-

Look, fanboyism is fanboyism - you can point at Halo fans all you want, you can say "but you're not attacking them!". No, I'm not, because the title of this topic isn't "Halo has the best combat ever". And yes, when they make that thread, they're going to get a lecture too. But today the topic is WOW. If you personally enjoy it, great, but please don't let your addictions and biases cloud the objective design viewpoint, in which, frankly WOW is nothing special. It's not the first game to have 50+ icons on a toolbar, it's not the first game with macro-tastic PVP, it's not even the best example of that sty1e of gameplay, and that's assuming objective design would favor such as sty1e (which it doesn't ).

since when objective opinion = your opinion? if you want to have a look at a fanatic the only thing you need to do is have a look at your own posts. Where shall i begin? Misleading information? check. selectively avoiding posts? check. calling other peoples opinions absurd? check.

We could have a good debate about the topic if your knowledge about WoW wasnt completely oudated. I havent played WoW for a long time but i do follow the game's development and i got a taste of arena from a friend, i am a big fan of the elder scrolls series and a big rpg fan in general and i agree that WoW's combat is among the best if not the best. but wait, i am a WoW fanatic and my opinion doesnt count:roll: .

many of these games you think have superior combat compared to WoW would simply collapse if a multiplayer element, some sort of pvp, was implemented into them.

yep, that sounds like how wow went for everyone i know. then one day i woke up, looked around. and saw the repitition. got WAR, dont really play it anymore. i think im done with MMOs for a long while, wow killed them for me. but thats ok, theres plenty of other genres that have good combat :P

MMO's used to be varied before WoW, and now everything is a WoW clone.

I'll never forget UO, my fav MMO evar, and not a single quest! Everything was player generated. It actually had an economy. SWG almost went with a good thing but as soon as WoW built up in numbers it went down the toilet too.

I love how people say that WoW isn't a pickup and play kind of game. Yes it is. Go look up old UO stories, some of the random adventures people had were 10x more interesting than anything that happened in WoW. Very similar to what EVE has going now.

Another person that started comparing other RPG/MMO's in FEATURES, not COMBAT .... its going off topic, UO was awesome no doubt.... but that is pretty irrelevant, this topic is purely about combat.

I've had this discussion before. WoW is not a pick up and play sort of game. It's certainly more casual than EQ and UO and probably has the easiest entry of about any MMO ever with the new leveling changes. Regardless of that, WoW still won't be as easy to walk into as a typical game.

Semi-Off topic : Do you play EVE? I am a long time fan of space combat games. What is combat in EVE like? Seems like the kind of game I could possibly get into.

Maybe I should have said semi-on topic.

Regarding the OP, I have just one question: what made Mass Effect's combat "very very bad"? :?

Are you serious? I'll list out my death knights binds that I will use in PvP commonly. 1 - icy touch 2 - plague strike 3 - blood strike 4 - death coil 5 - pestilence 6 - death grip 7 - blood boil mouse4 - scourge strike shift + mouse4 - summon gargoyle mouse5 - death strike ` - rune tap q - mind freeze e - anti-magic barrier shift + e - anti-magic zone r - pet stun t - arcane torrent f - chains of ice shift + f - pvp trinket g - boneshield shift + g - icebound fortitude z - mark of blood v - death and decay y - strangulate I skipped focus target binds. You have a lot of buttons that you will need to make good use of in WoW PvP. I'm sure your 1,2,3 rotation worked really well for getting farmed into the 1300s.
