"World of Warcraft's community continues to grow, recently hitting a new high of 10 million subscribers around the world. In the three years since the game was first released, the way it has been embraced around the world has far surpassed our expectations, and we're grateful to all of the players who made that possible. We just wanted to take a moment to share the news, welcome the many new and returning players who entered the game over the holidays, and thank all of you for your ongoing support and enthusiasm."

Man youre working for Blizzard or what?

To reach 10 million subscribers but half of them have their accounts frozen dont mean anything really. Now dont run to conclusions, rivals coming soon enough. Besides the fact that WoW got 10 millions subscribers in total, can you say to ppl how many of that 10 million are frozen? Would be nice to know the truth you know :P Marketing these days .....Pfff

They only record active accounts when doing that.

EDIT: Over Christmas thier servers got bombarded to the point there were 15min-1hour queues. That is proof enough for me they aren't lying.

Not only that, they daydreaming with such Blizzard statements about 10 millions active players...They were changed some time ago even their spot, now claiming that they talking about active players?.. QQ ..

Worldwide ARMORY on 15/11/07 were only 4million characters, including low lvls and alts. Now Where the other 5-6 are? In china? or Japan?

Or it is a sign they had issues with their servers

Either way, I couldn't care less. I will stick to my Guild Wars.

Mercenary343

I have seen a couple players that multi-box, playing more than one account simultaneously.

That being said, the hardcore who do that kind of stuff are in the extreme minority.

You also have to take into account the fact that many players from the same household share accounts. Those unaccounted for players would easily overtake the number of players that have multiple accounts. There's likely a good deal more than 10 million players if they got that figure by only counting active accounts.

WoW is by far the most impressive game I've ever played. It's funny to see gamers mock WoW for having exactly what all gamers look for in games. The better the game, the more addicted you get, that's why WoW has so many players, cause it's an amazing game, not sure why though it gets a lot of hate around here for being "addictive" isn't that what we want? =|

I used to play WOW before, but stopped, after it turned into a grindfest. Still congrats to Blizzard and their large fan base.

It's $40/month for a WoW account? That can't be right. If it is, people are just paying too much for their MMO cravings.

Notice AzatiS hasn't posted at all after that? lol

WoW is seriously insane. That's so many subscriptions, I'm glad I quit a long time ago though, the game was a huge time sink.

Amazing, I just resubscribed yesterday. I bet a ton of people made new accounts or came back after the holidays. They do release some nice quality patches/content that keep people coming back. I'm sure it costs a fortune to upkeep the servers and staff.

Would be nice to know the truth you know :P Marketing these days .....Pfff

jangojay

They only record active accounts when doing that.

Youre totally wrong here.

Totally... Total subscibers that boldy entered the world of WoW. Even the spot says it clear. Not curently active players. That says a lot to me.

World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

Just read the article man

http://www.blizzard.com/press/080122.shtml

Owned.

I have much respect for WoW, but don't have the time to invest in to it. I also don't want to pay the monthly fee.

Kudos Blizzard: ). Now give me SC2!

It is reliable, more than Blizzards own statements. At least for me as for you TREAL,no comment, read first then say ownage or something.

If companies dont praise their games who will? Maybe fanboys. But thats it. Noone else.

Should i stick a statement of other company about false achievements? And say pown? lol... Go play now and beleive what you want plz,and let me beleive alot of others than Blizzard itself about this game
