let's talk about these sales.
so if vgcharts is not reliable wich site is. what do we go by then.GARRYTH
You go by the monthly NPD reports for North American sales and the one that comes out every week in Japan.
I'm not quite certain which organziation, if any, tracks sales in the PAL regions though.

It's okay.. he does this everyday..
and everyday someone reminds him they are not using data for their guestimates..
but it makes him feel better, so i say let him go with it...

official sony M$ and nintedo reports?
Waiting 3 months between reports is kinda silly and pointless.
point taken...
If you want accuracy, you wait.
If you want random guesses, you use VGChartz.

So I guess according to VGChartz, 420,000 = 350,000, right? Because VGChartz said that the Wii sold 420,000 last week, when they actually only sold 350,000.

Well i wouldn't call it guesstimates if it's confrimed by cnbc or whatever, i'd say that was a pretty good guesstimate :P

We've got Chart track in the UK, but they don't seem to ever publish figures. They just hoard them in their fortress of statistics. Occasionally they'll churn out a few statisitics though...

Japanese totals published weekly, NPD for US monthly, there are NO accurate data sources for the total PAL region.well VG chartz aparantly is wrong in the American sales for the xbox 360 here:

CNBC also said the warranty for the xbox 360 was extended BY three years, when it's extended TO three years. They aren't a perfect reporting service.
I can believe these numbers, though. We'll see december 15th when the NPD's hit.
As for BGChartz, at the very least it makes for interesting discussion.
I love how in every thread that dares to mention VGChartz, mjarantilla is always in there posting not once but several times criticizing the site based on half-baked assumptions instead of actual information. If you read the threads without reading the poster names you'd think everyone hated VGChartz yet it's really just him making all of those posts. Did they steal your lollipop?DKII
Want me to quit posting in VGChartz threads? The vast majority of system wars would still say that VGChartz is laughable whether I posted or not. I only have two posts (now three) on this thread out of twenty four, and the people dismissing VGChartz still vastly outweighs the number of people gullible enough to believe VGChartz.
Get over yourself. Supporting VGChartz is like believing Ken Kutaragi. It's nothing but bull****. As for my apparently extreme reaction to any mention of VGChartz, sorry, but deceit and misinformation like the kind VGChartz spreads always provokes anger.

For caring about professional integrity? I think it's sad to ignore it, and utterly pathetic to promote it.

I mean they were off by almost 200,000 on their October 360 numbers. That's not even good for a random guess, much less supposedly researched estimates. Now we havefinancial reportsconflicting with the said week in November as well. Use them if you want, but don't expect people to take the numbers seriously.

The issue is that you don't have to believe in their numbers, they said it on their site that they're not 100% accurate. Going about it like, "OMgZ VGchartz hurts my feezlings, so I'm going keep bashing it without proof and it will make me feel better" is completely sad.

I can't explain anything to you if you know nothing about statistics. And if you knew anything about statistics, you would be agreeing with me about VGChartz. So what's the point of trying to explain anything?
Here's the raw information:
- NPD gathers data from over 60% of all retailers.
- NPD conducts polls and surveys involving thousands of actual buyers to compensate for the 40% that they are missing
- The demographics of those surveys are recorded and factored into the final statistical calculations
I only took statistics in my third year for my engineering degree, so I'm missing the finer points of market analysis. But the fundamental principles of statistics point to the conclusion that NPD has MORE than enough data to achieve a margin of error of less than 5% for 95% of their estimates, meaning nineteen out of twenty of the figures released will be within 5% of the actual number. In fact, it's possible that their ACTUAL precision can be as low as 0.1% margin of error for 99% of their estimates, depending on their actual methodology, which they don't disclose.
For comparison, VGChartz is lucky if they have a 15% margin of error for only 75% of their estimates. VGChartz gathers data from ONLY small and independent retailers. They REGULARLY miss the mark by tens of thousands of units every single month. During high sales months, they miss the mark by HUNDREDS of thousands of units (like October). Yet for some reason people here trust them? Is it really THAT hard to wait a couple of weeks for official figures?
I liked VGChartz back when they were VGCharts.org and they only ever compiled official data without making their own speculations.
[QUOTE="GARRYTH"]so if vgcharts is not reliable wich site is. what do we go by then.gromit007
We go by VGCharts all the time. It's only when sales suck for some console that certain factions call it BS.
