I doubt its 72% as well but wikipedia is the best source of information that i have.

blue_hazy_basic

and thats why I provided you with Game's own web page on its business. Wiki is good for certain things, business facts are not one.

Wiki is pretty good overall though.

yes and no. the problem is anyone can edit it, so while the overall article may be ok, certain facts but be wildly inaccurate either through accidently or deliberate design. (I've taught courses and our students weren't allowed to use wiki as a reference, although they can use wiki to find other references)

That's precisely what I use it for. And in general, when it comes to big articles, the self-appointed Wiki-mods are pretty good at demanding citations for certain facts.

[QUOTE="GARRYTH"]so if vgcharts is not reliable wich site is. what do we go by then.gromit007

We go by VGCharts all the time. It's only when sales suck for some console that certain factions call it BS.

Quoted for truth we all know this is the fact that if sales backup one faction they say oh thats true and if they dont they then say oh vgchartz is inaccurate.

not anymore. Most of the sensible posters from all groups admits that vgchartz is not accurate to use for sales figures. It does give you an idea of trends, but be prepared for it to be way off.

The fact the VGChartz is the ONLY place to get certain information on a week to week basis, and it is all organized in searchable chart form, yet NOT ONE respected videogame news source EVER uses them is reason enough for me to never take VGChartz seriously.

They are but wiki is so huge now, with so many different articles its impossible to check even a fractionof what goes up. There is always the unfortunate occurance of deliberate misinformation which happens more than you'd think. Don't get me wrong Wiki is an amazing resource but just not gospel, but I see you know that :P *trying not to go into tutor mode arrggh*

He's right, when I was in college, not very long ago mind you, Wiki was a huge no-no as a source in any paper. Every prof. stated it in their syllabus, and if you used Wiki, it was a sure failure on that paper.

This site not only confirms 360 sales this week but nintendo and sony sales so don't give me all that OMG your using vg charts cause i have found that it has confirmed sales many times

mjarantilla

So I guess according to VGChartz, 420,000 = 350,000, right? Because VGChartz said that the Wii sold 420,000 last week, when they actually only sold 350,000.

Prepared to get owned? Thought so.

VGchartz incorporates US and Canadian sales figures. That means that VGchartz was probably spot-on with their "guesstimate" for 420,000. 350,000 in the US and 70,000 in Canada.

LOL, you think 70,000 Wiis were sold in Canada in one WEEK? The Wii is lucky if it sells 50,000 in one MONTH in Canada. Canada usually sells only 1/10 as many systems as the US. Does Canada even have Black Friday?

Ownage denied. GTFO.

It's quite possible. I don't know for sure, but Canada almost surely has black friday. It is in North America, afterall. Also, sales tend to rise to insane numbers for black friday, so it would be no surprise to see 70,000 sell in Canada in one week. The Wii is very popular, as i'm sure you know. But even so, VGchartz would only be 10,000-50,000 off. That's enough to tell you the current trend. VGchartz is not meant to be 100% accurate. It is meant to give people a decent idea of what is going on in the gaming world. I daresay it does well at its job.

Also, please be more civilized the next time you wish to address me.

You're the one who "threatened ownage." You want to me be civilized? Then don't make your first address to me condescending remark.

No, I'm pretty sure there is no Black Friday in Canada. Would you expect Black Friday in Mexico?

And I've already gone over VGChartz's "accuracy" earlier in the thread. They're terrible at it. They miss the mark by tens of thousands of units every month, and during high sales months, they miss the mark by HUNDREDS of thousands of units, like they did last month. Sorry, that's not a "decent idea" of console sales. Not even close.

I only trust VGChartz for its historical data, because AFAIK they "correct" them to match official sources.

even if that would make the Wii figures correct it would mean the 360 were off, its wrong either way Xpebop

Canada does not have "Black Friday" the same as the US. Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving in the US. It's not only the day stores break even, but also a day everyone has off from work, and the official start of the christmas shopping season. Canada's thanksgiving is not the third thursday in november.
