I guess you were offended by that first pic then?
listen my friend.. this is the interwebz.. everything is done for the Lulz ;)
Oblivion is one of the few open-ended RPGs that allows you to (1) completely ignore the Main Quest, (2) Role-play your character any way you want, (3) has thousands of bugs & glitches patched, (4) has thousands pf player-made modifications.
I'm running about 70 mods or so, and you can quite easily triple that number if you wish. Aside from other Bethesda games, what other game allows you to:
1. Run a Script Extender (OBSE) that allows you to alter the game's scripts. (running an OBSE levelling mod, doubles the stat & skill progression limit).
2. Write your own modifications. Can change as much of the game as you wish. (ex., animation replacer mods)
3. Inspired people to write code for Oblivion utilities (OBSE, Wrye Bash, OBMM, FCOM Helper, OAF).
4. Inspired retailers to keep the game on their shelves.
5. Inspired the people in #3 to continue revising their utilities.
6. Inspired Bethesda to do something for Oblivion (they won't say what yet).
I still play oblivion from time to time.
but that might be because I got the PC version. slap on some mods and its great.
Not the Worst Game This Gen, But Defiantly one fo the most Disappointing In my opnion. I hope they do good with TES: V, I'd rather Then do a Remake then another Oblivion move.
I'd Love to have a Remake of Daggerfalls.:D (Just updated Graphics though)

(1) - Many open-ended RPGs allow you to totally ignore the main quest. Some open-ended RPGs also have main quests that are worth playing. :o
(2) - I'm struggling to think of an open-ended RPG with less roleplaying than Oblivion. It was totally devoid of meaningful choices, and played basically the same regardless of what skills your character had.
(3) - Um, ok. Other games tend to receive fan patches that fix many/most of their problems...but yeah, it's not a huge issue.
(4 & your list) - Sure, there are a lot of talented people out there that can make interesting content for games. None of them work for Bethesda. :P
But seriously, I don't think you can really judge a game by its mods - I personally had a ton of mods for the game (I even made a few for myself), but the fundamental flaws were still there, making me lose interest quickly...whereas with, say, Morrowind, I played that for literally hundreds of hours without mods, and still feel like I could go back to it and enjoy it.
Hmm, to me Oblivion was one of the first, Just Wow games of this gen in which I spent many, many hours playing and loved much about it though about 3/4 of the way through the game it became obvious that some of the things I had imagined I would be doing in the game was not to be so I had some disappointment but in no way, no how was Oblivion a Bad game for it's time and universal AAA's and GOTY from some should be proof of that. :P
I can't seem to find one good thing about this game. also does the 360 version run at 10fps?Zero5000XYou can say worst popular game, but worst game period? Get real.
Oblivion was bland and shallow compared to Morrowind. I guess it was ok if you like action games and wandering the beautiful landscape aimlessly for crappy random generated loot scaled to your level. Yeah there are worse games but I don't think worse dissapointments than Oblivion.

it does suffer from the shallow, reapeatitive, generic RPG, boring story syndrom, that all new RPG's have lately, so we have to put up with that i guess, that is until the new 2D XBLA RPG arrives
Oh that new 2D XBLA RPG only you know about? :roll:Joke post? I'm curious- when you went from 6th grade to 7th grade, did an entire species of animal disappear but was totally replaced by a different animal? Did people dress like poor peasants in 1st grade and by the time you finished high school, they all started to bust out their name-brand clothing merely because you finished 12 years of school? That's not how the world I live in works, but perhaps I'm the crazy one.....Bethesda succeeded again after Morrowind to actually do so something no other RPG dev have done before and that was a realistic living and breathing world. You feel that this world actually exists when you play in it.

People go waaaay overboard here. Oblivion is FAR from the worst game. Its clear you havent played games like Hour of Victory and Dark Messiah (360)-DrRobotnik-Agreed. It's one thing to say that Oblivion is the worst popular/successful/whatever game, but to say "worst" with some of the utterly broken pieces of garbage out there is beyond exaggeration.
Sorry TC, worst game this gen is Fallout 3. Its like Oblivion except it has the added bonus of ruining a great game franchise :(II_Seraphim_IIOblivion also ruined a great franchise.
I can't seem to find one good thing about this game. also does the 360 version run at 10fps?Zero5000XCongrats TC, you've clearly proven you have higher standards than the huge number of reviewers/gamers who consider Oblivion one of the best games this gen.
Not the worst game this gen, but maybe the most disappointing. The leveling in the game destroyed it. And apparently, the only way a lot of PC folk were able to even tolerate the game was with many, many mods.It is pretty bad compared to Morrowind.
[QUOTE="II_Seraphim_II"]Sorry TC, worst game this gen is Fallout 3. Yeah but atleast Bethesda ruined their own franchise, rather than buying another franchise for the sole purpose of ruining it :x
maybe not the best game, but certainly an ambitous huge rpg with tons of great things about it. Your exageration is childish and a waste of everyones time, there have been worse games released every month since oblivion came out, and that was a long time ago.
i'm getting annoyed with all the disrespect to AAA games here. seriously, why the hate? if you don't like it, don't play it. that's it.
I can't seem to find one good thing about this game. also does the 360 version run at 10fps?Zero5000XWhile I didn't like it much myself either, I have two problems with your statement there, first give it some credit it didn't run at like 10FPS, more like 20FPS or so, but either way still pretty bad. And while I didn't like it much at all and would give it like a 4.5 or 5 out of 10 it still isn't any where near the worst game this gen.
Oblivion is one of the best PC games this gen and one of my favourites, mostly because it's so customizable. I tolerated the levelling system, but when i play it on the new PC i'm getting, i'm gonna get a mod that removes the levelling system (maybe OOO or FCOM)
Worst game, you say? Sure... I'll bite :) Bethesda gives you the ability to make whatever sort of character you like, and then allows you to do whatever you want with them in a deep, gorgeous open ended fantasty world. I know sword and sorcery isn't everyone's favorite escapist retreat, but given the games flexability and rewards for personal creativity in terms of the RPG mechanics, I assert that if you din't like Oblivion, it's your fault. I mean, what type of character did you create? The Iron Accountant?donalbaneThis post is just... wow. Whatever kind of character you want? Your character is pretty much a jack of all trades right at the start of the game. Being a thief isn't worthwhile because I can sneak around and pick pocket as a warrior. Flexibility? "GO HERE, WANDER AIMLESSLY, FIND ARTIFACT/NPC/KILL EVERYTHING/TALK TO SOMEONE". And the rewards SUCKED ASS. Not like it matters. There's nothing worthwhile to purchase except one good house and all of the good gear is found on bandits so you just end up looking like everybody else. Oblivion is horrible RPG and I seriously doubt you've played many others :|

Ok, it's terrible. :P
Oblivion with mods is tolerable, but that doesn't excuse Bethesda for making an 'RPG' with almost no redeeming qualities.

Let's hope for TESV to be a great RPG instead of a great Action/Adventure game and a mediocre RPG
I really don't understand the Oblivion hate.
I liked the game when I played it on 360, but I loved it 10 times more a year later when I got it on PC. I've been modding it on and off ever since.
All the people jumping on the hate bandwagon on this forum don't own the game on PC with mods.
