Ive rarely played it but I think that guy who looks like norton anti virus from half life is a terrible main character, so poorly designed, he's not cool in the slightest. Gordon is he called? what an interesting nameRigour_MortiseGordon Freeman, while I do admit he looks like a heroine addict but he does a good job of representing the everyman. No other game in recent memory has really captured that.
Gordan Freeman > Chuck Norris

*runs away* :P
Well, the worst main character to me was Marcus in Gears of War.

you dont understand the point at all...he was designed to have no personality at all....valve wanted him to be completly unseen and blank, so that Players could use their imagination for what he was like...and avoid the akwards moments when your main character starts talking from first person and it just sounds odd.
I don't mean anything but if you don't play it rarely, how would you know if he is in fact a terrible main character. Just curious

He's the everyman, I already explained it to him but my favorite part is when he asked what his name and pretended like it was insignificant and then he knew the answer.alteir fromassasins creed ps3wizard45
Actually, yeah I agree with you there. For some reason he didn't really match the setting. I guess it's because of his voice.
hahah I agree with the marcus fenix one "youre a legend!" "*looks away* not really", accept a compliment marcus you sour puss! not sure about link though, hes alrightRigour_Mortise
Marcus Fenix is a try hard. I mean look how badass they try to make him and link has little to no personality, although that may actually be a good thing.
Gordon Freeman isn't a character - he's just an avatar of the player. You never see him in-game, so you can sort of decide what he looks like.
He is, essentially, you.
Anyway, hmm...I totally hate the main character of the Broken Sword games - George Stobbart. He's just so dull and uncharismatic, and I really couldn't care less if people are trying to kill him.
When I read the title, the first person that popped into my head INSTANTLY was CJ from San Andreas. He was the biggest racial stereotype I have ever seen, and Rockstar seriously tried too hard there. Great game, but I found myself skipping half of the dialogue. Others that came to mind:
Jak/Daxter (Jak too serious in later games, trying too hard)
Link (pretty boy, and annoying one)
Vaan from FF12 (haha nothing needs to be said, though not as metro as it seemed, he's still an extremely pointless character)
Dante (he was fine, until he's simply gone overboard with his corny lines, some people like him though)
Mario (fat, Italian plumber, whoopee, though his games own)
People that I thought made great main characters
Master Chief (not the greatest, but definitely a cool, bad ass character to fit the game)
Kratos
Ratchet/Clank
Samus (and the twist she was a chick, haha she's great)
Ico
Snake (though I hate Metal Gear games)
I don't know, millions of others.
Gordon Freeman isn't so much a character as he is a way of getting you into the game. He's you, the player.
Anyways.
CJ from San Andreas is hands down the worst protaganist ever. He's a stupid, whiny douchebag and an unlikable character in general. A far cry from Tommy Vercetti.

haha LMAO. I love the MC defense ;) .

master cheif is indeed the classical american hero steryo type, and that has nothing to do with him being patriotic and things like that, hes just the same type of hero we see alll the time on american movies, thats why so many people say hes bland and generic, and i agree with them.
