[QUOTE="hakanakumono"]Square Enix has to milk their older games in order to support their budget.
I honestly don't find anything wrong with the ports as long as they do a good job with them. The Tactics port for PSP was amazing. Shame on them for the VI port for GBA.
However, all of their ports give newer gamers an opportunity to experience some of the best of the past.
Blackbond
Yet they are the only company that does this. They can't find any other way to make $$$? Here's a thought. Why not make other games that sell like every other company. I guess SE is just "A special case"
Square does release other games, ever heard of Kingom Hearts? (which I loathe btw). It's just that Final Fantasy is their money maker. It's their trademark series. Final Fantasy is Square. Square is Final Fantasy.
In the playstaiton era there were some new IPs, but not so much anymore. Parasite Eve is getting a sequel on the PSP, however, which is great news.
Oh, and they're not the only company who does this. Capcom ported all their PS1 games to dreamcast, and later all their games before REmake to gamecube, and now they've ported a gamecube game to wii with no real improvements.
That'd be like Square porting Final Fantasy VII to PS2 with no improvements. At least square adds things to their ports.

Yes? And? Its not part of the Final Fantasy series really. It just steals characters from it.
What are you talking about? RE2 and RE3 were released after the playstation releases. RE2 was called the "value plus" ver and it was released due to Code Veronica taking forever to be released.
Relies on ports/remakes? No, you're right. But square still works on new stuff. It's not like the ports/remakes are terrible. FFIV for DS was a great tribute to many ****c FF fans' favorite game.

Kingdom Hearts is a Final Fantasy Spinoff. Capcom does do ports of old games and yes they have been guilty of milking games but nobody is as bad as Square Enix.
Square works on new stuff true but it only accounts for less then 25% of what they come out with. FFIV DS was not a great tribute it was just another version of the game we got on the SNES, WS, PS1, and GBA before it.

Umm how is KH a FF spin off? So by putting some FF characters in the disney world makes it a automatic spin off. THats doesint make sense. Its a merger between 2 companies to make a story that not connected to the FF universe.

How was it not a great tribute, when they remade the game in 3D, redid the music, and added voice acting (which was better in the Japanese ver)? Thats a great tribute to a game. The GBA remake included new areas and a new translation.
This is an example ofa game that has no excuse for being ported
Biohazard 0 can run on a wii already. Capcom is only rereleasing it for the wii because it sold poorly for the gamecube, but maybe the new wii audience will eat it up. Thats shameful.
Square's ports are worth it. If they were to release Xenogears again (which is on the Japanese PSN) it'd be worth it. If they were to release Parasite Eve again it'd be worth it. Why? Because they're good games. Sure square shouldn't release IV again unless its next generation. But why not release VI like they did IV? I'd say it's more like a cross over than a spin off. Otherwise, it's the same as saying that Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a spin off of Street Fighter and this just isn't true.[QUOTE="GreenGoblin2099"][QUOTE="one_on_one"]The difference is those are Wii peripherals while the DS3 is the same controller just with rumble. We don't need a fifth version of a game.
Biohazard 0 is JPN only.
Xenogears is already on JPN SPN.
See here's the thing. Unlike Square Enix Capcom actually releases new and fresh games. See while SE is giving us nothing but spinoffs/remakes/ports and the occasional awesome game like The World Ends With You they have been completely absent in the console area.
While Capcom they don't rely soly on those silly port/remake/spinoff tactics like SE
Capcom doesn't need to soley rely on ports/remakes/spinoffs between its big hitters like SE does. They do a good job of putting out big name games, sequels and quality fresh IPs and all at the same time.

If the 5th version of the game is a vast improvement, go ahead. In 2 generations I'd like to see ports continue of some of the best games of previous generations, just like quality books continue to be printed. There's a reason why you can still find a book like "Joy Luck Club" in the library.
Not the American PSN. And it really deserves to be released in a physical copy, it is such a good game.
Capcom releases new games just like Square releases new games. Your point?
Oh and BH0 is shameless even if it wasn't released in western territory.
My definition of milking:
Mario:
NOT MILKAGE!!!!
I know everybody have their own opinions but Mario to me is not milkage because 1. Mainline platform Marios doesn't come out until the new gen starts. That's 5-6 year period for every game. Even the sports spin-offs only have one version each each gen (i.e. Mario Kart, Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Double Dash and Wii. i.e. one version each gen.). 2. They are all pretty fun! Platform Marios reinvent themselves each iteration. Even the "failures" like Mario 2 and Sunshine beat other games to pieces in terms of fun factor. Meanwhile, me and my wife and friends still beat the crap out of each other in SSB and Mario Kart. When games are this fun and doesnt' come along often, you can't say it's milkage!
The only series I would say it's milkage is Mario Party. That series truly needs to die!
GeoW, Halo, DoA
Close to being milked....
GeoW2 already shows signs of being milked. Halo, yeah, alo3 is over, but do you really think MS will let their milk cow die? Halo: ODST and Halo Wars are just the begining, DoA.......DoAX Anyone? Thos boobies will continue to fly I gurantee! Anyway, successful franchise = instantly on the milking calender!
Rachet, GTA, Jaks etc.
Rehashed.
I mean, think about this, how many Rachet games are there in the past 7 years, GTA? Jak? If you say Mario is rehashed, then what about these games. Main line Mario Platforming games, 7 games since 1985, Kart, 6 (counting handhelds) since 1993, Various sports games, around 8 or so since the N64 days....That's actually not bad at all! Rachet....Various iterations, 6 since 2001. GTA, discounting the 2-D games, 6 games since 2001. Same with Jak.....When a game sees a "new" game every year or so, then something is definatly wrong!
MAdden, Guitar Heroes, CoD
Milked!
Yeah, no kidding, every year we get a "new" madden, in fact, EA is such a bully that they bought the NFL license to prevent a much better series to compete with their milkage! GH.....When you got 2 games coming out each year........Yeah....CoD....No comment. These guys are the worst milkage except below!
FF and shooters of all kind, especially WW II one.
Milked so much the cow is near death.....
Check BB's chart for why FF is the worst....And yeah, how many Germans, Japanese, Ailen monsters, Sci-Fi monsters, hideous zombies, and hellish creatures do we have to kill? Shooters are such a dime and dozen these days that if you played one, you played them all!

Have fun playing ports and the same games over and over man. At the rate Square Enix puts games out for consoles these days you'll be luck to play 3 SE console games this generation.
Here's an idea for FFIV. Instead of remaking the game on DS why not instead put the sequel to FFIV which stupidly went to cell phons on the DS instead? Capcom releases new games just like Square releases new games? Um no Square Enix does not release like Capcom. Square Enix has been next to non existant on the console market this generation.

FFIV Cell Phone? Because they're only starting to care about American fans. And because the DS game is a solid remake. Just like REmake for the gamecube.
SE is putting all their focus into FF XIII, FF VXIII, Parasite Eve 3, and FF AXIII, in that order I believe. They just haven't come out yet, but they're coming out very soon.
Also, I believe TWEWY was a new, popular IP released for DS, was it not?
Actually, I should have brought this up before, but pretty much all the extra FFVII other than the original FFVII has been shameless milking and not beneficial to the original game. If you're going to nail squaresoft nail them for things like Advent Children. Just remake VII with its problems (graphics, translation) and be done with it.
