If valve prices the machine at 500 or maybe around 400 would you buy it at launch but of course their's the specs to worry about which will vary and there won't be any exclusive for it. Note if its only regarding size than its has little advantages over your typical gaming rig.

No. If I use that $400/$500 to buy myself a video card, I'd have a stronger gaming PC that's probably 2x better if not more than that of valves offering at that price.

You aren't going to get much for that price. Though the OS cost would definitely alleviate the cost issue.

I only need a GPU upgrade, and that would cost me 300 pounds, so no, sorry, my PC is already much more capable for my needs.

if the whole point of steam machine is to run steamOS and connect to the big screen like a game console, then probably not

I don't think it'll cost that much.....rather, I think there'll be multiple SKUs.

I personally wouldn't buy one since I have a PC. Far more functional than the Steambox will come out of the box.

I'd buy Valve's PC if it was fantastic value for money. Otherwise I'm fine with building my own small form factor system.

Like Linus' Silverstone one.

Doubt it. You'd still come up with an excuse as to why you don't "want" to play PC games.

If I didn't have a gaming PC, I'd consider it. But I'd rather take a console for exclusives.

A $400-500 Steam box would be stupid because it wouldn't be more powerful than a PS4. The purpose of buying a PC over a console is to play games at a much higher fidelity. Nobody buys gaming PC's just for the exclusives, not unless of course you are an anti-social nerd addicted to MMO's and RTS games.

It wouldn't unless Valve offers more for less, i.e., if they offer a kick-ass gaming PC for that price. But that would mean they'd lose money with each Steam Machine manufactured, and they can't afford that kind of production model, like MS or Sony can.

Hard to tell what the price will be but overall it offers very little over traditional gaming rigs. The steam controller is a good idea for playing those type of games that never could be accessed during the living room but honestly it probably rarely be preferred by anybody who are into competitive gaming.

The precision of the Keyboard and Mouse can not be matched and people using it for FPS shooter or something like Dota will probably still at a disadvantage maybe not as bad like with a typical controller.

Exactly, they would never sell the Valve Box at a loss. Sony and Microsoft have nothing to worry about. The PC gaming community has basically written the Steam Box off as they already have gaming rigs and console gamers would never switch to PC because they love console exclusives more.

@emgesp: If you actually looked there are more than just MMO and RTS. I wouldn't even buy a console for a small handful of exclusives a least not a for a while especially at launch when there hardly any worth excited for.

Show me the great Third Person Shooters and Driving exclusives on the PC. The one genre I will admit PC kicks butt at is point and click Adventure games. Basically the only games I play on my PC.

@emgesp: Why does it need to be a TPS or driving exclusive? The PS4 has a lot of great exclusives for those genre right?

I always said this is the way to sell Half Life 3. As a launch exclusive. If it $600 and that's the case I'll find a way to buy it.

Well, those are two genres I enjoy, so what does the PC have to offer me in regards to modern games? Like I said before only PC games I enjoy are older point and click adventure games.

i would have bought a pc long time ago, because i'm really into graphics. but i just don't like to sit at a table the whole night with mouse and keyboard, i just prefer lying on my couch with a controller in the hand.

even thoug steam is trying to push their new controller, i guess pc gamers will always prefer mouse/keyboard and if i'd play with a controller, i won't have a chance in shooters. ps4 it is!

No cuz i dont need it, its just a PC. The best games on PC dont need good hardware. PC gamers still on old stuff like quake and CS lol or playing starcraft 2 or what ever, no need for good PC hardware. I dont wanna play horrible, brain dead easy, single player shooters like Crysis 3 xD i wanna play SHADOW FALL, tourney time!

@emgesp: Yea because every gamer prefer only enjoy those kinds of genre right? I guess you never played trackmania or GTR2 and stalker which as a TP mode. But you know since you only play point and click your PC I assume it can't run a lot of modern day games very well.

And if you actually looked pc has most of the modern games already out there oh wait since you don't seem to like RTS or MMO I guess those don't count with the later making up parts of the PS4 launch titles.

I wasn't talking about other gamers. I'm talking about the kind of games I enjoy and PC just doesn't have the exclusives that interest me. PC doesn't have a game that can go toe-to-toe with Uncharted.

Not that I've thought of it probably wont buy one at all, no matter the price. I have a gaming PC now but I was thinking about adding a steam box to my 2nd living room, but I dont spend much time there and it probably wouldn't get used much.

Games like uncharted on console are few and far between. For me its only a rental at best unless you like the mediocre MP that was thrown in go figure the last one MP went F2P a person probably won't look back in playing the game again in a few weeks. If you like linear action games good for you its not like your getting whole lot of those anyways. And if you like racer there isn't a whole lot those exclusive to the PS3 I can name maybe one.

@emgesp: So Uncharted and the likes of TLOU one that came out during the last years of a console life cycle I'm sure you can last only on those and that isn't exactly a big list and what about driving games I don't remember a bunch of those as exclusives.

LOL!! NO!! I'd rather build a better PC rig then waste money on crap like SteamBox.

The SteamBox is going to end up like "The Phantom" game system. The Phantom was another streaming game console that played PC games. The idiots running the company ended up spending all the investors money on fast cars, wild parties and expensive trips. So when the time came to launch the console, there was no money to do so. These gold digging exec split before the shit hit the fan. The only thing they had left to sell was their tilt-keyboard. That's all they are selling now. http://www.phantom.net/

The same thing will happen with Valve's SteamBox. After it fails the only thing Valve will have left to sell are their innovative Steam controllers.

I'd rather spend 900 buxx on a desktop to hook up onto my TV. In fact, that's my birthday plan for myself.
