Would you still buy FFXIII if it was 10-15 hours long?

I regret having FF: CC... sheesh... that game was short... I mean I COULD have spent extra time on it unlocking everything and finishing all side stories/quest... but overall it was repetitive and milked you to play co-operatively.

So, no, I won't. But... if I did, odds are I'd make it go over 100 hours of play time like every other FF game in the main series.

I would have to skip it. When I get a FF game, I expect nothing short of 50-60 hours of gameplay, per play through.

Including or excluding the amount of time spent in battles? A lot of time spent in the Final Fantasy series is spent in battles.

Most of these JRPG's have you running around looking for enemies to fight so you can power up and fight the next boss, buy the best equipment, etc. I didn't play FFXII so I'm not sure if that differs from the old formula. But a lot of people like that stuff. I got sick of it when FFVII came out but lately I played DQVIII and I sort of like it for nostalgia.

That is impossible, and would never happen. Quote me on that if you want.

For the simple fact that there is probably 20 hours of cutscenes alone.

Yes. Since i know how FF is, if the main story was that long, they would still have MUCH MORE to do.

Wouldn't mind a main quest around 20-25 hrs. In fact I tire of JRPGs and there tedious length. Too often I find myself saying "damn I've done this so many times before, not just in this game but in the whole of the genre :(".

Quantity isnt quality. This is why Chrono Trigger is better than any final fantasy game.

Yeh, many FF's force you to grind and watch lengthy cut-scenes which just artificially increases the game length. But it's what I expect out of the Final Fantasy series anyway. For a linear RPG , I want it to be long. For WRPG's , I wouldn't mind if they're 10-15 because they're stories are multi-threaded and they have much more replay value than jRPGs. I'd maybe buy a 12-15 hour FFXIII if it had become 'westernised'.

You dang right I would!

10-15 hours means theres little to no leveling up then. One reason why I hate most of the ff series, is because of the hours and hours of leveling up. 30 of the 50 hours of final fantasy 12 was probably spent leveling up. I find it dumb. Of course your character gets stronger, but you don't see it! They look no different since you started the game. Final fantasy X did things the right it should be. You could beat that game running from nearly every random encounter.

I love the story, music, and presentation of final fantasy, but leveling up is annoying.

Probably, but I don't think that it is possible in any way to be under 40 hours, and that's just the main story.

if it wasnt for the work it takes to level up most of the characters to go through the game, how long would FF games really be. Minus all the side missions and all the extras. Not very long. Same thing with Mass Effect if you just blow by everything and dont explore around and dont do side missions.

Which add to the main story. SPecifically explain the story of the other characters and ultimately change the outcome of the overall game than ofcourse Mass Effect is 12-15 hours. Like Oblivion, etc.

THe difference is most rpg gamers do explore and do try to get into the story. Why is everybody forgetting that detail.

Anyway on to the question if those 12-15 hours was the main story and it was worth it why not, the story is usually the main point of an rpg IMO. Gameplay wise all rpgs suck beyond belief. Final Fantasy, KOTOR, Oblivion, etc all of them bad combat systems. There greatness is based on there story.

not a chance! Considering there are 60 hour FF games on the SNES, there better be plenty of hours of play on the PS3.

Yes, simply because expecting Square-Enix to develop the next big Final Fantasy Number with an overall gametime of less than 15 hours is darn near impossible. That's like hoping Mario would hop unto the Sony platform : it just cannot happen. That and the fact that Square-Enix has successfully delivered to its fans, time and again, a worthy addition to the main Final Fantasy franchise.

Yes, because if it was 10-15 hours long, it would likely be a riduculously amazing 10-15 hours. The background would probably be CGI the entire time, and you'd likely never do the same move twice. It'd be like gaming sex.

....ummm yeah...since ff7 final fantasy has all ways been 20 hours and under.....The rest of the time you spend on it? watching CGI.

ff7 had like 10-20 hours of CGI, 8? same. 9? same 10, x2, 12 all had like 12-20 hours of actual gameplay if you played smart went through it and followed the story, the rest was CGI cutscenes and 13 will be no different.

then you have the fact right now I can put down 5-6 geneic final fantasy scenarios and boom ff13 will follow it exactly.
