They would, but they don't operate that way.
I'm thankful for that though. Valve tries to release games at the right time rather than milking a series for all its worth year after year after year until it dies.

Not releasing anything new Half-Life related for six years now is hardly "milking" though...
Have you seen it?!Â[QUOTE="Zaibach"]

Titanfall? Really?Consternated
Of course. Futuristic shooter with mechs and wall running, but still limited to assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols. Evolution, yo!

They will make it when they're ready.[QUOTE="treedoor"]

Half-Life is a passion project. Valve actually cares about what they do, so they don't feel the need to lessen the quality of their IP's simply to generate some income. They're going to take their time on it and release it when they feel the time is right. And because Valve takes their time and has quality standards, it will be the best FPS of for its time, just like Half-Life 2 was and Half-Life 1 before it.
Â
Valve has lots of ways of making money without milking their fans. With Steam, DOTA 2, TF2, etc. generating massive passive income - what makes you think that a single-player FPS can even compare in terms of profit?

But that's not the point I'm making.
We may have wanted Half Life 3 long ago, but Valve isn't ready to deliver it. They know the hype behind the game, and they know that for Half Life 3 to be released it should be as far of a jump from HL2 as HL2 was from HL1, and that'll probably come when they've fully developed their next-gen engine.Â
Half Life 3 using the same engine as Half Life 2 would be awful.Â
I imagine Half life 3 will debut when showing off the Source Engine 2's capabilities to the public.
Â
And Valve are probably being tight-lipped about the game out of fear that it will be stolen off their computers (like what happened with HL2)
