Finished playing the beta and it just confirmed every fears I had about this game. Game is so streamlined and feels dull. 4 player max, dedicated portals, no pvp, non-existent skill trees, cluttered UI and COD-like reward messages splattering all over the screen, etc. Everything looks cartoonish, lacks detail, and technically outdated. It even animates like a cartoon, in a bad way. This looks like something that could've been built on the warcraft 3 engine and released back in 2003. Worse is that there is no dark forboding atmosphere, let alone any. Gameplay is quite mechnical and it just keeps throwing you a mundane list of things to do. Can't believe it took them 12 years to make this.

Either 1. Poor troll attempt 2. You thought Diablo had any depth to begin with Both result in failure.

No one expected any depth in Diablo 3.

1. Kill monsters.

2. Collect loot.

3. Equip better gear when monsters get too hard.

4. Repeat.

That's the whole game

Hey guise, better than D1 and D2 while still in beta lololololololol. I'll make my decision in ~3-4yrs once I've put a couple thousand hours into it.

Easily. Both Diablo games are fillled with annoying, outdated, frustrating, and stupid mechanics. D3 fixes nearly all of them.

Yep cause the BETA and starting area is going to be really hard and confusing for newcomers..the difficulty is average and the game gets harder down the track.

I heard that the skill points are automated, I understand why they would want to do that in an "appeal-to-the-masses" sort of way but personally I'm not too fond of that. :( Hopefully Grim Dawn will be more hardcore.

Why? The skill point system in Diablo 2 sucked? Every class had the exact same distribution: Just the minimum Str amd Dex to equip end-tier gear and the rest is dumped into Vit. Hell, even the Sorceress was the same - you didnt need to spend a single poitn into upping magic. There wasnt any customization; only the illusion of customization.

The option was still there, you could do whatever you wanted with your character. I know some people like hand holding but I personally don't.

Que? There were only two options: Distribute stats EXACTLY as i described them, or have a less than optimal character. There was no point in distributing stats in any other manner.

Wheres the element of "fun" in that? It has nothing to do with hand holding. Any player would just read up on a guide.

But the thing was, you COULD have a less optimal character if you wanted. The choice was there. You could have a tank Sorceress if you wanted to. Why? Well why not? It's an RPG, you should be able to play it however you want. I'm always one to take up unorthodox challenges to lengthen the replay value of games, for example, beating RE4 with just knife/pistol. Like I said, these are just personal preferences.

Yep, worst Diablo game in the series. It is way too casual, I mean way to casual. Which I am pretty sure is what

the OP was trying to say, he didn't say anything about depth.

It's way different than D2, but it's still great imo. Serious sense of impact smashing enemies in the face as the barbarian.

I never had faith in this game since the day Blizzard made announcement that Diablo3 is still gonna be a 2D plate adventure as the latest entry., still tried to give it a chance and had my hands on the beta 2 month ago and I absolutely despite Blizzard. just looking at the graphic make me vomiting, shade model 2.0 graphic with oil painting texture are at the PS2's lvl at best. a decade of work just for this crap? (SC2 is no different) played through graveyard as barbarian, and I can't take this anymore, it's not gaming, it's a torturing, a more painful one than TW2.

I'm usually all for cutting down on cruft and streamlining, but yeah, it really sucks the life out of the game. It'll probably pay off in the mid-late game when you have enough skills/runes unlocked to get some worthwhile customization without worrying about how you pumped 10 too many points into dex or some useless early-game skill, but it makes the beginning a total grind.

So, there is at least one thing that makes it vastly worst than Diablo 1-2 and which is not debatable at all too

Nope. The artstyle in D3 is far superior to that of the first two games. Sure, they were "darker" but they also lacked incredible amounts of detail. Most scenes in the first two games were either incrediably bright (i.e. outside on the desert in D2 is bsuper bright) or had so much black as to have little more than amorphous blobs of detailess black.

D3 hits a pretty good sweet spot between strong accent lighting, and darkness without drowning out the detail.

I dislike that they removed the demonic symbolism so the soccer moms won't get mad. It added atmosphere to the games.

The game seems OK. It's certainly worth playing through at least once, though I find it hard to justify paying full price, if you don't intend to do MP or the higher difficulties.

The art style was better than I expected, but not as good as it could have been. Having auto stats/skills is a bit disturbing - it didn't seem I had any control over the level up process (am I missing something?). And the inability to switch quickly between the mouse skills is also a flaw in my view.

I don't get the crying about the artstyle, the game's damn pretty, not cartoony, but somewhat painted looking. It's like people want Doom3 in an isometric perspective, that they'll then cry about how dark it is and how it has no attempt at an art style

Remember, these are console gamers you're talking to. Getting color in their grey and brown is a shock to them. They think it looks bad because they aren't used to these colors they're seeing.

Well, I've never played a Diablo game (due to a game breaking visual artifact in the demos which stopped me from buying the game), but I really liked the Beta. I played through it with my friend and had lots of fun.

I agree that the skill tree (if you can even call it that) isn't very good, but it isn't going to stop people from liking the gameplay.

The atmosphere was amazing as well. Makes me want to play the first games.

Uhhh? The outcry over the art direction came from PC gamers, and specifically, D2 players.

As a looooong timr D2 player, I agree with EVERY WORD TC said. I'd rather go back to running around with my Godly Hammerdin looking for high runes than play D3.

One more negative: the game is super taxing on the CPU. I have a quad-core OC's to 3.8Gz and it uses up to 70% of it at some points, causing the game to noticably slow down. Granted, I'm playing at 25x16 with everything on High but still, I get better performance from FPSers!

D2 is probably my favorite PC game of all time, maybe WarCraft3 depending on my mood. Fallout 1 and 2 were great but don't have the replay value of the Blizzard titles. Diablo 3 just breaks my heart for all the reasons TC said - spot on.

RIP Blizzard
