It was running at like 4FPS and was incredibly meh. I'm just saying, don't let these screenshots overhype you yet until we start seeing some polished gameplay.

Yeah I know! You can't trust those images. An internal unfinished build has performance issues after all. That's just really odd.

4 fps??? thats u-u-u-u-unpla-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-abl-l-l-l-l-l-e!

Really then downgrade is confirmed, theres no way the optimize it after this long development time up to 25-30fps.

And what are your credentials? Have you worked with Quantic Dream on a PS3 project before so you know their development process? Why would a long development period make it more difficult to optimize and polish a game?

Srsly, everyone needs to stop being silly.

Silly? I'm being realistic. You shouldn't get overly hyped by a few close up screenshots when its far from finished. We have no idea how its going to turn out. The environments in the gameplay I saw were incredibly meh.

you can start if you want. throwing around comments like 'do you know their dev cycle', 'what are you credentials' don't really help your argument - all they're doing is displaying cautious optimism, if anything you're being silly by telling them that isn't something they should do.

so far in the wild this game looks nothing like it's original 'in-game' video and performs terribly. that is definitely cause for caution / concern.

welcome to the world of logic ;) please don't run contrary to it lest you get logic slivers in your feet.

If you're speaking of the old "Casting" video then it indeed is funny. That video is two years old and produced when they were still developing their technology.

If you're speaking of something else then link please.

You continue complaining about what you saw in an obviously unfinished build. You don't know what stage that particular level is in, you don't know what's placeholders and what will improve, lighting, textures, models, scenery, post processing, you don't even know if it's running on the PS3 or if the guy is working on the game with a bunch of tools and whatnot. It likely has over a year left in development. I don't know why this footage is brought up as an arguement against the game. Makes no sense to me.

lol cautious optimism. All that guy was doing was throwing around baseless speculation and making it out to be some sort of statement of fact. In order to do that he needs to have something to back it up with. Otherwise it comes across as *faaaaaart*. Trolling is something you shouldn't do, no. I don't know why you're defending the guy.

Once again, the game is not finished. It has a long way to go. It is normal for games still in development to run poorly. All games run poorly at some stage. I don't know why everyone fails to realize this rather simple fact. Instead of prematurely judging it by streaming low-res cam footage of a clearly incomplete build, how about you all do what Vandal suggested somewhere; wait for actual, official footage. In the meantime the images are supposed to be repesentative of the game, as they for sure portray the most complete parts of it. With the usual über-AA of course.

You're right, I simply don't know. But I have to be the informed consumer and judge for myself based on what I've seen, not make what if statements and conjectures of what Could Be. PS: I'm not arguing AGAINST the game, I'm saying its too early to hype it.

you could serve yourself well by taking your own advice and keeping quiet until there's some real footage, because right now you just look like the opposite of all the people saying it's gonna suck, and that's just incredibly hypocritical, and frankly quite funny.

I think it's logical to expect things to improve. I think it's illogical to judge a game based on footage like this. There has indeed been little material and info released so far, and all I can say is it's up to people to take what they can and make up their own damn minds. If they want to "hype" the game because these screenshots are pretty, or doubt it because the visuals in that short snippet looked drab, I won't understand it, but whoopedoo.

I couldn't care less about this whole "grafix grafix!!1" crap. I believe the images are representative of the game's currently most complete visuals, and the character models are rather impressive, particularly the eyes. But what's interesting isn't that they are detailed, but why. That's why I hopped aboard the Heavy train (pun!!1) back in 06. The promise of a mature story with real human characters dealing with real problems, and that it was likely to improve upon what Fahrenheit did well, again, particularly the diner scene. Problems solved in logical and non-linear ways, actions that can have consequences later on. The whole consequences thing wasn't too noticeable in Fahrenheit and is one of those things I hope they'll improve on. But some of the choices felt emergent and like they would have an impact. It became apparent on successive playthroughs that they didn't really affect too much. But I was rather fond of Fahrenheit, which is why I took interest in this game to begin with. This is the spiritual sequel.

Where did I say it's impossible for the visuals to be dumbed down? Where did I claim there's no way it won't run at a solid 30FPS? All I've said, repeatedly, is that the footage shown comes from an incomplete build etc. and that the images released are a better representation of where the game's at as they're HD direct feeds and Quantic Dream surely would publish screenshots of their most complete work. The outdoor environments in them do look a little sparse, which could perhaps be a trade-off for the character models. Or perhaps the scenery simply hasn't been populated yet.

Wow. Even with the visible polygons all over the guys head making it look lumpy, that just might be the best character model I have ever seen. It actually looks human.

Man I hope this game is good, I waited all last year to buy a B-Ball game because they all sucked in '08. I might buy this one just for teh graphix.

Vandalvideo

The game isn't looking anywhere near as good in motion. There was a French video I saw floating around that could only be described as the french version of Make a Wish foundation, where some kid went behind the scenes for the game. It chugged like all crap when they were doing the gameplay portions. It was cool when they recreated the kid's face with a picture in the game though.

Wait what were you talking about? I meant to quote the picture of NBA 2K9, I wasn't talking about Heavy Rain. Did we get our signals crossed here?

The face model in NBA 2K9 is incredible. I hope the game is good.

Heavy Rain looks alright, but isn't it an "interactive movie" (shut up with the b-b-but MGS4 lems, I know you want to)? If so, there is no "gameplay" so all the talk of "waiting to see the gameplay" is nonsense.

So which is it, are we talking about NBA or Heavy Rain? haha.

err it looks good... but will it look like that in gameplaybf2nutta

It will look like that in gameplay. The question you should ask is, "Whats the gameplay".

When you hear the director talk about Indigo Prophecy (he does so in the training area and in the manual of IP), he's very adamant about it being an intereactive movie and a new way to tell stories. He's very adamant about it. He never actually refers to it as a game and rightfully so.

To a gamer, the best way to describe Indigo Prophecy's gameplay would be an RPG without battles or inventory management. You get to make dialog decisions but... thats pretty much it in terms of interactivity. Every once in a while you have to do Shenmue style action sequences (not the fighting ones, the guess the button minigames) both those aren't all the often. However, the best way to actually describe it is this: its a choose your own adventure book that came on a xbox disc. If you imagine the amount of freedom/control, or lack of, you have of your character in those books and tried to picture a game that stayed as true to that as possible, you have a good idea of Indigo Prophecy and likely Heavy Rain. If you think of it as a game you're going to be dissapointed. Not because its bad or anything, but because it really isn't a game.

But a major flaw of IP was controls. That game was horrible in moving your character. Just walking around an empty apartment is hell. I really think nobody at the company understands some of the basic technical things about games like camera and movement.

I could never figure out the controls. Pressing the analog stick to the right will not move you character to the right (like every 3d game since Mario 64). You may think its like Resident Evil 1... the camera angle has no effect on controls ie if you hit right, your character will turn in the direction of their right hand, even if that means they're actually moving leftward on the screen. No, thats not the case either. I think the controls are tied to the camera's height, position in the room and angle to the characters. The game prides itself on cinematic camera angles, which look nice, but are just hell to navigate.

If they can at least fix the controls, I think a niche group of people will really enjoy this game. Indigo Prophecy's storyline was legitimately mature (think R rated like Silence of the Lambs and not R rated like Starship Troopers or Animal House). It fits well with the PS3 and all the "4D" claims since Heavy Rain isn't really its own game genre, its like its own form of interactive entertainment.

However, I think the current state of the gaming industry won't really allow this title to be a "success" unless they expect really low sales (like 300K or less). I think you'd get higher sales advertising on sites about novels and indie films than you would at a site like IGN or Gamespot. And in all honesty, I think people who are into that type of stuff are more likely to own a Wii than PS3 or 360 (they'd rather spend there money on stuff other than video games and probably look down on games... but they played a Wii once and it was fun enough and cheap enough to merit a purchase).
