Wow PS3 sales dropped by a lot just a week after MGS IV (vgchartz)

Now MGS IV everyone knows is a major release. The PS3 actually outsold the wii last week (WW). But I'm surprise that just a week later it looks like sales are back to normal (Pre-MGS IV). How can that be?

To everyone saying MGS IV sold 3 million. This is shipped not sold. Sony only releases ship figures. Microsoft does the same thing and Nintendo

Sony really should have gotten GTAIV as a timed exclusive... it didn't do anything for either console but it would have been huge to have both MGSIV and GTAIV as exclusives or timed exclusives on release.

It did not surprise me to see sales drop. This is why I laugh at cows who think that MGS4 saves the PS3. It's just one game with a sizeable niche cult following and few diehards. The zealots were not going to actually wait for more then a week to buy the system. Plus factor in the people who were waiting for ONE good game to buy the PS3. Once you get passed those initial waves there is no reason for the sales to be sustained.

This is just one reason I like 360 more. They have sustained releases of consistently great games and are not slowing this trend at all this year. If anything it seems like they stepped up. Lets face it PS3 had its one good release for the year. I might get one eventually but definitely not until either the 360 stops coming out with so many good games or when the PS3 is 200 dollars cheaper.

Resistance? Meh. You step up the multiplayer size making squad co-operation with SONY's notouriously silent voice chat? Sounds pointless to me. 360 has had so much more in the past and the future as well.

Hung up over MGS4's great rankings? It now stands as the 62nd best game of all time......wow....Plus lets face it IGN's and Gamespot's reviews embellished as a form of fan service honoring a retiring great series.

Bret Favre got the cover of Madden bcause he played great? Not this year( not even this decade). It was just a tribute to an old retiring great. That's all I think of MGS4's rank. Fortunately most review sites were honest and this put MGS4 at the 92 it deserves to be at.

Totally unexpected. Was really expecting it to pull big numbers every week from now on. PS3 am dead.

First off, Trying to compare Quarter backs and games equals no. Paying tribute to a great quarterback and a game getting a 10 because it's the "last in the series" according to you, isn't even comparble. Games are things which receive ratings for how good they are, and obviously MGS4 is a great game. Second off, even though you won't admit it, nor will any other hardcore lemming, if MGS4 were a 360 exclusive and got a 10 there would be nothing of criticism coming from the likes of you. Also bringing in Gamerankings, now that a PS3 exclusive has gotten a 10; hypocrisy at its finest.

those figures are shipped. When Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo says sold they mean sold to stores. Do you remember when Microsoft said X360 sold 10 million. Later they said it was sold to stores. Sony did the same thing when they said PS3 sold 6 million. It was really 6 million to stores

Considering I've played GTA4, and many other great games such as the Half-Life series, I can say MGS4 is the greatest game i've played. Of course, i'm going to bring in the oh so great counter argument, this is gamespot, it got a 10 here. And I haven't played Halo 3, but i'm sure the MP is better than MGS4's, but the SP, I doubt it's better than MGS4's.

Yes, when I played my second playthrough, I skipped most of the cutscenes, and you realize that yes the game has more cutscenes than gameplay.
