I love Zelda and I love my Wii, but what all of you are saying is completely wrong. You can't sue someone for having gameplay similar to your game. Nintendo didn't sue Epic for Shadow Complex.

Also, to those of you saying the weapons are similar, Nintendo didn't invent swords, bows or grappling hooks. What weapons do you expect them to use?

Finally, From wants their game to be like Zelda. Those games were great. Who's to say that this won't be great as well?

I honestly see no problem with this. I'm not sure where the line is drawn between rip-off and inspiration. Zelda was an influential game back in the day, and From Software obviously liked it.

Besides, its from From Software. Hard to hate them with a game like Demons Souls under their belt.

So yeah, I'm fine with it.

So I guess Shadow Complex is a huge rip-off towards Super Metroid? No, its more of an inspirational towards the game.

The same with 3D Dot Game Heroes is an inspirational of the NES Zelda.

You can easily see it takes a lot of things from the original Zelda, but it still looks fun.

But why would they? Bows and swords are fun to use and Nintendo has absolutely no claims to them.

It does resemble the way a Zelda game is played like blowing up a hole in the wall with a bomb and grabbing onto things with the hookshot. It is a Zelda rip off which I hope fails and shows that the PS3 fanboys will say its not ripping off Zelda at all when it clearly is. It even has that little tune when you find a secret area. It might not be a complete rip off but it is ripping off Zelda in certain areas.

I feel bad calling Dante's Inferno a GoW III rip off, but yeah... its a God of War rip off, the devs have even come to terms with this and accepted this as a compliment.

My main gripe about it is its art style. They should have gone with Dragon Quest VIII style cell shading if they seriously wanted to imitate the cartoon style of sprites.

artistically the game looks pretty cool. unfortunately im just getting tired of retro. period. im not interested in playing Zelda again. unless its a new game that adds at least a few new things. im gonna have to see what the game does differnt from Zelda before i make up my mind. if the game does its own thing and goes beyond just being a Zelda clone it could be awesome rather than just kinda cool and retro.

But the game isn't based on the Bible (there are few descriptions of Hell in the Bible). It's based on the Divine Comedy, which does mention Cerberus.

Ive said it before, and I will say it again. Saying "Nintendo didnt invent swords and rocks falling LOL" isnt a good enough argument, because its the combination of elements and the context that they are in that determine what an IP is, and Dot Heroes is too close to Zelda for comfort. It is not a homage. It is not inspired. It is certainly not a parody (seriously, check the definition of the word). Its a shameless rip off. Too much is not just similar, but exactly the same.

That does not, however, mean I am butt hurt, and wont buy it the second it gets released. Because I will :D

This is sad because I was starting to gain some respect for "FROM SOFTWARE" after Ninja Blade turned out good, and same with Demons Souls.... but this just makes me wish that Nintendo sues them, and takes them to the cleaners.

You know what I'm sick of? The ppl who are writing off From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes because they have no concept of irony and can only see a "Zelda rip-off." These people are slow and can't see an inch in front of their faces.

For those who don't know, 3D Dot Game Heroes is a brilliant looking PS3 parody that pays homage and pokes fun at 8-bit adventure games, with The Legend of Zelda serving as a clear foundation. It's supposed to have the same look and feel as an old Zelda game. That's the point and that's the joke. It's looking like it'll be a blast and the design is absolutely gorgeous.

Calling 3D Dot Game Heroes a rip off of Zelda is like saying that The Naked Gun rips off James Bond. Part of the fun of the game is the fact that it does play like Zelda. If you're going to write the game off just because you don't have a sense of humor, you're a fool to yourself. You're also probably the same kind of person that thinks everybody who is British is just trying to copy Yahtzee.

Anyway, there's a new gameplay video that you can watch after the jump. A few of you won't be able to look past the deliberate similarities and whine about plagiarism. Don't worry though, it's just that you're not cool . Your mother won't love you any less.
