Ok i made a forum talking about this earlier on a the xbox forums but it got locked so im doing it here now.OK the point of this forum is to talk about how cheap it is that microsoft is forcing u to pay to get online from gold membership cards.See for my birthday i was gonna get halo 3 and play online all day when i found this out.Dont make fun of me for not knowing.I always play games on my ps3 and pc so i barely touch me 360.Leave comments and tell me how YOU feel.

If Microsoft didn't charge I probably wouldn't have Live because the special feeling would disappear. It's better to cost, because they take the money and make it better, unlike Sony, which has nothing. So I think it's a great think it costs.

 The fact that it costs is sort of hidden. Make sure to buy the prepaid cards because you can't cancel online when you buy live through the xbox.

I HIGHLY doubt that microsoft uses the money to make xbl better. I shouldn't have to be paying to play half of a game I already paid for. But for some reason I actually dished out the $50 for a year because my friend told me to. I do not play 360 enough to justify paying $50 for online.

EDIT: correction. i didnt know you only had 19 posts. so that kinda excuses you.

There is still to this day no actual reason as to why MS charges for Live. Really, the costs to maintain the marketplace servers is gained from the giant percentage they take from marketplace devs, the servers used in games are paid for by publishers before launch, etc etc. Everything that people are happy to pay for on live is paid for by someone else somewhere else. The subscription charge is just a way of MS's gaming department trying to stop losing so much money.

by nothing do u mean dedicated servers for exclusives

and does that mean that PC games have nothing to offer because they dont charge for online play

some pc fps offer high player matches that kill the avg 16 player matches that most xbox 360 games have but because they dont charge for online play then they offer nothing

you know that xbox live fee is mostly for features, dlc, and getting demos early

when ur in the middle of action online connection will not get better just cause ur paying to play online

I only payed $30 for 13 months of Live and I still felt ripped off. I won't be buying it again when my membership expires in April 2010. It's ridiculous all I want is to play online like I can for free on PC/PSP/DS/PS3 & Wii. Of course, be prepared you'll get alot of people here singing its praises and saying how it's not a big deal.

It isn't and you could have easily not paid for it. If you already have a PC/PS3 why'd you spend the money? Seriously, why do you guys do this to yourself? It's really funny.

It sucks when your gold membership expires and you have to put down another 50 bucks to play online for another year. Once you start playing online though, you kinda forget about it.

100% Agree, but in some ways PSN is now better than LIVE and Sony doesn't seem to be slowing down at all even without the fee MS charges.

My feeling is as a person who has struggled with drinking, I have spent more money helping beer companies get richer, and they sell a drug that can alter the mind of a driver and be the force behind a fatal accident. Now the law states that selling alcohol is legal to humans over 21. Yet these companies are getting rich on the hope that customers return to but more. That's a drug dealer. I'm not against this, because it's legal business, and the consumer must take responsibility of themselves. Same for Live. It's legal, it isn't killing me, costs less than my weekly bar tab did, and if you don't want it, there are alternatives like the PS3 or PC.

Internet Browser would be nice, as would some kind've online save backup system, less DRM on their download games, more games with user generated content, MOD support, have first party games with dedicated servers, etc.... There is always room to improve any system. :)

its about choice not about money for some

but i guess when someone has the logic that they dont play xbox360 exclusives, they can play the same game online for free on the other system and they dont care about drm protected material, features and early demos then why should they pay for something they wont take advantage of

but i guess even if u dont use it u should still pay for it because its cheap and its a FACT that EVERYTHING IN LIFE is better when it has a monthly or yearly fee maybe if we pay for the air we breath it will be better for us

here is an example of why lemmings say its worth paying for live and psn u get what u pay for

cod 5 wow has been out since nov 08 and just the end of last month or early this month the demo hit psn

oh no i missed out on a DEMO

did that affect my 32 player matches on a dedicated server? NOPE

but since there is no fee it cant be as good as the 5 vs 5 matches that people host in gears 2

I would rather spend that $50 on a game, so it does suck to pay just to play online. Oh well.

Stevo_the_gamer

I may not be forced to pay for the Gold subscription, but what is the point of having a 360 without one? Since most of the games I like on the 360 are online-oriented, I would have to have Gold JUST to play online. If M$ had provided XBL Silver the ability to actually play online for free, NO ONE would be complaining about Gold. From a business stand point, I am impressed by M$ gaining money from Gold. As a consumer, I am hellla pissed.

People seem to be forgetting that most gamers just need to play online, I for one have no need of features like Cross-game chat etc. That's why I buy all my multiplats on the PS3 and only bought 3 month prepaid cards for Gold.

And what happens when your company running the dedicated server sees that its counter productive for them to continue running said server.. Well, guess you can enjoy half your game can't ya? Oh wait, I'd be pretty sure that wouldn't happen with a user hosted game.

If Microsoft didn't charge I probably wouldn't have Live because the special feeling would disappear. It's better to cost, because they take the money and make it better, unlike Sony, which has nothing. So I think it's a great think it costs.DamageDamage

lol yea keep believing that as long as you don't feel youre taken advantage off. ;)

XBL is the best online service, so naturallyyou have to pay. Seriously it's not expensive.

Playing online should be free but Xbox Live is the best online service for consoles.

[QUOTE="dotWithShoes"] And what happens when your company running the dedicated server sees that its counter productive for them to continue running said server.. Well, guess you can enjoy half your game can't ya? Oh wait, I'd be pretty sure that wouldn't happen with a user hosted game.

That doesn't matter, user hosted games have already been cancelled on LIVE. Go ahead and try getting an older game of Madden going and see what happens.

Yeah, for some reason MMO's don't count.

They do count. But I don't think MMOs are what these gamers are arguing against, besides I'm pretty sure you would still need to pay for those on it (FF IX) as well as paying for gold gold. (though while it's not needed for the game you would still need to pay the regular fee for the rest)

Or you could take the active route and just not have Gold like myself. Honestly getting a forum and complaining about it isn't gonna make MS have a change of heart. Actions speak louder then words, if your not willing to do somthing about somthing you find unfair just pay and sit on the fee (which isn't that large anyway).
