I only payed $30 for 13 months of Live and I still felt ripped off. I won't be buying it again when my membership expires in April 2010. It's ridiculous all I want is to play online like I can for free on PC/PSP/DS/PS3 & Wii. Of course, be prepared you'll get alot of people here singing its praises and saying how it's not a big deal.
It isn't and you could have easily not paid for it. If you already have a PC/PS3 why'd you spend the money? Seriously, why do you guys do this to yourself? It's really funny. The 360 has games with online modes that aren't on the PC or PS3. When it comes to those games how are you supposed to get the full experience without giving in and paying for Live? Easy, you can't.[QUOTE="2-10-08"] The fact that it costs is sort of hidden. Make sure to buy the prepaid cards because you can't cancel online when you buy live through the xbox. ^this. It took me forever to cancel my subscription after I sold my 360. When I took my credit card information off of LIVE they gave me a free month. It is sometimes worth the trouble. Just saying.[QUOTE="DamageDamage"]If Microsoft didn't charge I probably wouldn't have Live because the special feeling would disappear. It's better to cost, because they take the money and make it better, unlike Sony, which has nothing. So I think it's a great think it costs.Wardemon50
So let me get this straight, an extra $150 for a console is 'worth it' for a bunch of meaningless features (like a watered down internet browser) and an HD movie format that will cost you more money in the long run to fully use to watch the HD movies , whereas an XBL Gold membership isn't even though its obvious the community aspects are far better structured and easier to use then then PSN?
[QUOTE="MizFitAwesome"]Haha. you think the adapter is necessary? I just use a 50 foot long wire that cost me 20 bucks. and i dont even think it even has a browser......so HA that beats your argumentSo let me get this straight, an extra $150 for a console is 'worth it' for a bunch of meaningless features (like a watered down internet browser) and an HD movie format that will cost you more money in the long run to fully use to watch the HD movies , whereas an XBL Gold membership isn't even though its obvious the community aspects are far better structured and easier to use then then PSN?

I was talking about the PS3. I use wired because it's faster then Wifi....

And what happens when your company running the dedicated server sees that its counter productive for them to continue running said server.. Well, guess you can enjoy half your game can't ya? Oh wait, I'd be pretty sure that wouldn't happen with a user hosted game.dotWithShoes
on average the time a server is kept for a game is long and by the time they end the server am sure i wont be playing that game so am not worried about that
Free would be better but i don't care about 50$ per year n i am not even rich.....thos who do are mostly cows cuz they know xbl>psn and that make them angrySyferonik
so if you have two people playing lets say street fighter 4 one is playing on psn and the other on xbox live when they get into their match and are actually playing someone can u tell how xbox live is better than psn ?
am sure the person playing on xbox live is having more fun because he is paying for his online svc that does not help wth lag or actual gameplay
i dont see anything wrong with paying for live just remember that fee does not help actual online gameplay it just gives u more features dlc and stuff but its not going to make street fighter 4 bettter when ur in a match
Think of it this way: You pay for Live because it blows PSN away. Kind of like paying extra money for faster internet...it's still internet, but you're shelling out more for better quality. DethSkematik
You mean just like my sig says...

Yes he is because he is probably talking to his other friends while whipping up on his opponent and you're saying mo PSN games lag. Have they finally patched Fat Princess so they can play? BTW, are you enjoying those FREE trial versions of PSN games so you can see if you like the game?
How many times do people have to explain this? No one really likes paying but it's worth it for a lot of reasons. PC gamers are lucky that there are enough enthusiasts out there to maintain servers for their games, on the PS3 developers have to pay to maintain the servers so they can and will take them down when their profitability has run out which on PS3 is normally pretty fast since online communities die quickly for most games and when that happens you can't play that game online anymore ever. All xbox live enabled games still work online to the best of my knowledge and this goes back to xbox games as well. Xbox Live is unified so that all online games have a cohesiveness and a backbone of solid online tools to make it easy for developers to add live support to all of their games. All of those costs are paid for by the fee, and for PS3 Sony and the developers pay those costs, which in turn is passed on to the consumer through ads or lack of online support all together.

Also, since the PC is an open platform and ANY one can develop software for it a paid service like XBL isn't going to work because there are already free alternatives out there. It's the reason GFWL was doomed from the start. Aside from it being a steaming pile that is. XBL was created from the start as a subscription service during the original xbox era when there was no competition in that space. Sony with PSN would have fallen flat on it's face if it tried to compete with XBL on it's terms, so they undercut them. It was a smart move (actually it was the only one Sony could make). The Wii isn't even worth talking about in this situation.
It would be sweet if XBL was free, but really, they built this service for years on a for pay system and it would be incredibly stupid to throw all that revenue away just because a competitor has a somewhat decent alternative. They are making money and to a business THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE. All of this "It should be free" nonsense is silly. Go use the free alternative. MS isn't obligated to give you anything free because you don't want to pay.The Xbox 360 is a Microsoft system, their rules. You don't like it, there are other consoles to buy.
you know that guy you always hear about here? the guy that after 5 years has payed $250? well that guy is me and i think it has been worth evey cent...
my subscription ends at the end of this month and i have no problem at all paying for it, it enhances my gaming in so many ways but i'll throw in one small recient example so you can see just the tip of the iceberg for why i'm happy to shell out the dough
when bf43 shipped the chat was broken but it was never a problem since me and my friends just made an xbl party and used the cross game chat so we could talk to each other and work better as a team
walking all over people in that game alone makes it worth my money an like i said before that's just one tiny little thing
maybe i'm a sucker but i'm a sucker that gets top squad in my new favorite game 95% of the time :)
I love XBL Gold (much better IMO than PSN, which I also have), and I have not been without it since Halo 2.

because u pay for xbox live it guarantees u lag free play for EVERY GAME
and am sure gears of war 2 had no lag issues when it game out because its impossible to have lag issues when ur paying to play onlne

ah yes but people like you and cows make out every day that psn has nothing but dedicated servers *fat princess doesn't* and is lag free in every game because of this. Fat princess being a client server model is inferior in every way to the client server model games on xbox live, It lags every game EVERY game, and still has server problems even after the patch. The patch didn't fix much of any thing the server problems are still their it just changed the method by which the search finds games, before it tried to find the most populace servers regardless of ping, now it searches for the lowest population servers which i why most games you join are filled with 60% bots.[QUOTE="DethSkematik"]Think of it this way: You pay for Live because it blows PSN away. If you meant that in the literal sense then yeah, you dont.
But if you said that to actually mean that you dont get overall better quality with LIVE vs PSN then your wrong, you do get a better sevice with LIVE.

Nice to see cows still trying to justify their new PSN games because a 1 and a half year old 360 title had issues. Would you like to show a link of a new XBLA game scored low because of network issues?
my comment is it's worth every penny....less than 5 dollars a month and tbh I'm sick of hearing ppl whine bout it
chikenfriedrice
Sometimes I wonder why people even choose gaming as a hobby when they have trouble paying $4/month.

One of my friends actually canceled and everything since he traded his 360 for a PS3 but they still charged him for one month. He called and said it was their fault and they admitted their mistake. Problem was, he had an overdraft fee due to the renewal (only did 3 month renewals). They said all they could do was refund the money for his live account and he had to pay his own overdraft fee which he had proof was caused due to the renewal. I LOLed at hard for him but felt sorry for his children.

I have to disagree with you, because when I buy XBL I feel riped off, because PSN and XBL give the same exact Features at the same quality. The only thing PSN that really dosn't have that XBL has is In Game Private Chat, so paying $50 a year for in game private chat is a scam. Also Sony has made alot of changes to PSN since 2006 such as ingame xmb, trophies, Home, Video store (which has alot more movies and tv shows then the video market place),IM, Ingame Music, ect.

I've never had a problem, I've had exactly 2 gamertags since i was on xbox live for the past 8 or so years. *i was in the original beta* S o G which i was forced to change too S.o.G *or was it XxSoGxX? unsure* but that was because xbox live servers could not handle spaces back then and someone signed up with SoG which confused it, after a while i simply made a new gamertag *WilliamRLBaker* and let the other lapse with credit card information on it i never had a problem with it charging me after it lapsed. One can call xbox support, email them, turn off auto renewal if they do even the smallest amount of research.Considering you could pay $15 a month for one game, I figure $40 a year (yes, you can find it that cheap, its called amazon) for any game on an entire console isn't too bad at all.
It's 50 dollars a year. Mow some grass.Ok i made a forum talking about this earlier on a the xbox forums but it got locked so im doing it here now.OK the point of this forum is to talk about how cheap it is that microsoft is forcing u to pay to get online from gold membership cards.See for my birthday i was gonna get halo 3 and play online all day when i found this out.Dont make fun of me for not knowing.I always play games on my ps3 and pc so i barely touch me 360.Leave comments and tell me how YOU feel.

Where do you get the same quality from when most multiplat owners can see that the XBL features are more streamlined and easier to use?
You guys are **** ridiculous.
Sure, MS isn't forcing you to shell out near the price of a new game a year for online. Sure, LIVE has in game chat. But do you guys realize that PSN offers the same experience in gameplay for free?
If a game is broken like Battlefield 1940-Whatever's chat system, it should be fixed. You shouldn't need to pay for an alternative.
I play HAZE, a PS3 game that bombed and "sucked", online and have a blast, similar to my experience on HALO. I played GTAIV online on PSN and, guess what, it was no different on LIVE. Not a difference in gameplay or experience. Why? Because the game's the game, LIVE doesn't change that.
I see that most fanboys don't mind throwing away 50 bucks on an unnecessary priced feature. Good for you. Ignorance is bliss. Meanwhile, I wont pay **** for online because I rather buy one more game a year. I like being able to go online when I want for free. I don't like being sold a gimped system and then being told if I want to enjoy the full experience it's going to cost me more. I paid for my **** I paid money up the ass for an online capable system and internet. Why do I need to pay to add 1 and 1 and get 2? I shouldn't. It should be free.
So, fanboys can suck on their XBOX LIVE all they want and give a million reasons to justify why they're being scammed. Meanwhile, I'll play some online and download a demo or two without spending an additional penny.
Zohluff
So when you are buying BluRays (the king of an unnecessary overpriced feature) that makes you a fanboy? Better yet, the people that prefer XBL over pSN are now fanboys?
*replace with free, gimped, lies about system power* hmmm looks to me that its the exact same argument cows make....Odd...You guys are **** ridiculous.

Ever since the NXE update came out it's been a lot harder to get around then the XMB, but back on the Blades it was a lot easier to get what your looking for. I can't find a difference in the two they both give me the same experience. XBL compared to Nintendo wifi connection and the PS2/PSP service it is worth the money, but compared to PSN it is not because there basically the same. a lot of people say XBL cost money because they get add on content first, but I know that's a lie from experience of owning both consoles. You do relize that the PS3 support more media formats then the 360 I learned that when I was streaming movies to my 360/PS3 from my PC. Not only that the web browser is very good feathure since you can go to facebook, twitter, download custom themes, youtube, ect.If Microsoft didn't charge I probably wouldn't have Live because the special feeling would disappear. Better that it costs money? all these poor lemmings are so easily milked it not even funny, nothing on xbox live is worth the fee for using it, especially when you can get a better experience for free on the pc.
