[QUOTE="Plagueless"]Damage controlling because those "crappy" exclusives still sell way more than their PS3 counterparts? Come back when PS3 gets a game that sells like Halo does.RR360DD
Super Mario For Nintendo and Gran Turismo for Playstations are Halo's Counterparts in the sales wars. As I remember, Nintendo has quite a few including Wii Fit, but Sony's big seller is dat GT series people forget around SW parts (I'm not a GT fan, don't even play GT5, but I know Gran Turismo is a huge, huge seller). :P I didn't even see him bring up sales, but to give you an answer look into Gran Turismo, and in case Wii came up in this thread, look into Wii Fit. You already brought Up Halo, and yeah it's a big selling series as well. Other big franchises are GTA, Pokemon, FIFA, Metal Gear Solid, Tetris, Zelda, Resident Evil, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Need for Speed, Madden, and more and those aren't in any particular order.
This is also why I don't reach into arguments about sales, since In the end it's about a games quality and if you liked it, not how many millions more people bought it.
You weren't asking for him to mention a successful game, you wanted it to be as uber successful as Halo. Success wasn't enough for whatever he was going to mention, it had to be a game that sold on that Halo level. He then will inevitably mention a game or games, and it becomes a 20 million vs. 50 million in sales contest or whatever. The argument could spin into debating games you hate, just to get the last words because X game sold moar than Y game.
That's why I came in and game big sellers for the other consoles to prevent this spinning out of control.
I would focus more on the kinds of games you play, you like instead of bringing up sales is my advice. :P
Gran Turismo may have been a "huge huge" seller in the past, but GT5 flopped critically and only sold 7.7million. Great sales, but not "huge huge".
We are still talking sales after all that? Honestly? Okay....sales are boring, but whatever. Wii Fit sold 22 million, and I put that in the same category as well. I assume you are using Lolchartz (That's fine, I don't care)? I'm guessing Halo Reach is a million or two ahead of GT5, but this isn't a race. It's not like I made Halo or Gran Turismo or play or care about Racing games. This is just a pissing contest sales number to some kids in SW as if they get any of the money. Let's go back...Okay according to whatever source, 7.7 million thus far for Nov 2010's GT5 compared to Sept 2010's Halo Reach as that's in the same time frame-ish.
I can tell you that GT5 as of Dec 2011 sold 7.4 million according to Sony, which was sometime ago. So, already lolchartz seems dubious, but we'll stick with it.
His words : "Come back when PS3 gets a game that sells like Halo does". "Like". No one expects exact numbers, but like. Personally, I BOUGHT Two copies of Reach for both my 360's to LAN. In fact, I have a third copy I downloaded for my HDD, So I bought two retail copies and one Digital copy, a total of three copies. I bought zero copies of Gran Turismo. So, if I have a horse in this race, it's Halo Reach.
Okay, GT5 should suffice in terms of big sellers like Halo. He didn't specify HALO REACH, he specified HALO, which we should also consider later.
Still, 2010's GT5 close enough, right? Given that GT series has long legs, that figure is going to grow at least until GT6 is released (if even this gen). This year's Halo 4 will cannibalize Reach's sales a bit as it's coming sooner, but that's what I meant and said. So, by your own source, look up 2010's GT5 and pit it against 2010's Halo Reach. What is it, like 7 million to 9 million at chartz? There you go.
He simply wanted to see a PS3 game sell LIKE Halo, and GT5 can do that just fine. He believed the HYPE around SW forums. That HYPE and generalization being, PS3 games don't sell. It's one of those stereotyping Trololol things in SW no one should believe, but sometimes young ones get caught up in the crossfire, getting confused. Well, now he knows the reality, as you do.
Now, if we consider Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo Wars, and Halo ODST, and look at those sales. We can pit GT5 against any one of those titles as well, although we would have to keep in mind those games are older. In the end, GT series sells LIKE Halo, and that's good enough. I mentioned Wii Fit, but you don't seem to care about that game. I suppose that's understandable as you have a Master Chief Halo Avatar afterall.
Wii Fit seems to have sold Halo Reach and GT5 combined, but I just called them all uber since it's ridiculous numbers. I also brought up great franchises from 3rd parties as well. In the grand scheme of things, GT5 is pretty comparable to Halo Reach.
My entire point was to bring up how futile sales discussion is when we are talking millions upon millions of games.
