I've been a gamer all my life, im 26, I have seen lots of systems come and go, but we have to admit that the 360 is one of the greatest systems ever to come out within its first 3 years of release, I know some points are unfair to make because most technology wasn't available years before, but

1. Its had some of the greatest games ever to come out. Halo3, Gears 1 and 2, RSV 1 and 2 COD 2,4, Graw 1,2 Oblivion, GTA4, Bioshock, and many many other excelent games.

What other system keapt hits like this coming month after month after month?

2. Its got the best online play to date.

3. Admit it or not, the Controller is the best ever, perfect size, weight and shape and feel to it, it rumbles, convenient dashboard button, the triggers, wireless.

4. XBLA, Great retro games as well as plenty of originals.

5. Achievements

If your kidding yourselves and say things like, who cares about XBLA or I don't care about achievements, who cares if the controller rumbles, well my answer to that is Why is Sony all of a sudden so interested in adding most of this features? it must matter

I'm not saying the 360 is perfect, its not, The RROD is a HUGE set back that has angered millions of ppl, including myself, 3 times, but if you think about it the only real set back is being with out the system for about a month. What I am saying is that it is possibly the greatest system within its fist 3 years of release, and who know once its life cycle is over it could be considered the greatest ever.

No offense to the PS3, I dont hate it, really. Its just that it got beat this generation. Games have been dissapointing, subpar online play, expensive, the list goes on and on. Oh well at least you could always use it as a Blu-ray player.

I've just had the best experience with the 360, from all the great games and marketplace items, to the wonderful xbox live integration and fun community. I agree with all of your points. 360 controller is the best, and of course Achievements are great.

It's the best console right now - but best console ever... You might be biting off more than you can chew there buddy. The only aspect in which the Xbox 360 falls short when compared to previous consoles of previous generations is: The games. And the PS2 crushes it.

I don't find the games you listed anything special, but it's given me my fair share of memorable titles. It has poor hardware and I don't find the controller nearly as great as you say it is (that damned D-pad is atrocious). The online is great, although sometimes for RTS/Fighting games P2P isn't adequate. Still a decent console though. I'd say it's been quite enjoyable.

agreed, I don't have many games for 360, but I spent more time on it than I did my PS2 in its first years. PS2 really didn't take off till GTA;SA, GoW, and FF12.

Not for me. I started with the N64 so call me a young naive gamer but After living through the N64, PS2, and GameCube, I can easily say the Xbox 360 has given me the best gaming experience so far. PS2 online play was basically non-existent.

Since when does the greatest console have to have sales to be considered "the best"? Are you a gamer - do you care about how many good games are on your console, or do you care more abouot how much your console sells each month?

Sorry I think the PS2 and DC had better success in their times.

Seriously, the 360 did nothing except for rely on new technology. DC had online access when no one had it. PS2 was the first to integrate a HDD to consoles and broadband connection. PS2 was also the first console that could be used to play games and watch movies on.

its a good system yes, but greatest ever. no way

first of all most of those games are multi-plats and i think there are way more noteworthy ps3 exclusives

online is really good wont lie but not that much better that im willing to pay

ps3 controller > 360 controller (but hey thats just me)

achievments=trophies

sony is incorporating these things b/c ppl want them thats true

but what about all the additional hardware you have to buy for the 360. when you buy your ps3/wii your done you only buy games and controllers

and pay to play = fail imo

still a good system but no way is it the best

Ironically, the Dreamcast did. It had more great games in the first year alone then any system I can remember.

Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Powerstone, Soul Calibur, RE: Code Veronica, Jet Set Radio, Shenmue, etc..... For it's time, there was never a better system to own.

I think some might remember - those of you who followed Sony and their deceit many years ago, how Sony relied heavily upon technology to sell their PS2. You know, by usingHYPE. (I think Nintendo made note of this). Sony even spouted crap like this: PlayStation 2 can handle 50 times more 3-D image data than the Dreamcast, allowing it to create characters similar in appearance to those in the Walt Disney film "Toy Story." -SONY

And the Playstation 2 used memory cards, not sure where you were getting the Hard drive thoughts from.Playstation 2 also relied upon, heavily too I will add, on the DVD technology inside of it.And like I said before, it basically shortened the lifespan ofyour console if you used it.

There's nothing wrong with evolution, innovation though... can bring some problems.

Laddy, to be quite honest - it's quite unfair to compare current generation consoles right now with last generation consoles. For one, it was extremely cheaper and not mention faster to work with the consoles last gen. Even though some developers had difficulty with the PS2, once they got their fingers on it - they could make quality titles a lot more faster, cheaper and more efficiently than what a developer would have to do with the Xbox 360. Cost, sadly, plays quite the role when developing games on the current generation consoles (Save the Wii).

The PS2 was a juggernaunt, and the sheer volume of developers which jumped on to it proves that.

same.

360 brought the total package.

PS2 had it beat, so does Sega Dreamcast in its tiny lifespanCrazyyyDylan
not in terms of games in the first 3 years, I don't think. But either way, it would have been very close.

360 wins on OS and software that runs the 360. Add on Live...and you have features that the competition is still trying to figure out how to just catch up to 3 years later.

PS2 also had a HDD.

North American Releases with HDD Support
  • Final Fantasy XI is the only North American game truly dependent on the HDD as it requires various patches and upgrades from Square Enix.
  • SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, downloadable via the in game "Socom Store" for $5.99 per pack.
  • SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, however the files must be copied from a magazine demo disc to the hard drive and cannot be downloaded.
  • Resident Evil: Outbreak (Both File #1 and File #2) installs 1 GB to the HDD for reduced loading times.
  • ESPN NFL 2K5 and ESPN NBA 2K5 use the HDD to improve replays. (If the HDD is not installed, static screenshots are shown as replays. With the HDD, full cutscene-like replays can be displayed.). ESPN NHL 2K5 has the ability to save files directly to the hard drive.
  • RPG Maker 3 installs 3 GB to the HDD to decrease load time.
  • 2K Sports's NBA 2K6 and Major League Baseball 2K6 also use the HDD to display recorded replays from game action. Without it, stills are shown in NBA 2K6 (during halftime and the end of the game) and no end-of-inning replays are shown in Major League Baseball 2K6.
  • Metal Saga installs to the HDD to decrease load time and uses the HDD to save/load game instead of Memory Card
  • Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, like its Japanese counterpart, can install 2 GB to the HDD to reduce loading time.
  • The Urbz: Sims in the City recognizes when the HDD is installed and allows data to be saved directly to it.

As to the technology part, what has the 360 done that makes it the greatest system ever? It didnt bring anything new to the table except achievements.

Four years later it arrives in the NA after the launch of the PS2 - hmm, weird. Short lived span of that HDD I pressume considering the new PS2 doesn't support it and the fact I've never even heard of it nor seen one before. Guess you learn something new everyday.:?

It's the overall package in which the Xbox 360 provides - no console even comes close to it. And like Dreams-Vision said, "360 wins on OS and software that runs the 360. Add on Live...and you have features that the competition is still trying to figure out how to just catch up to 3 years later." Again, something doesn't have to be "new" in order to be good. Look at Halo for example, it basically set the bar for what shooters should do when it was released - did it bring anything new to the table? not really, it took all the great shooter aspects and perfected them in a nice overall package.

The Xbox 360 has done that - and the Xbox 360 experience is unmatched.

How can you compare achievements that the 360 brought to life and that are on every game to trophies that are only on a few games

Ps3 achievements sorry "trophies" are useless because they are only on a fraction of games

alexmurray

so your saying you play games to get achievments to shove in people's faces??

Oh well at least you could always use it as a Blu-ray player.

sf49erssf

If you're 26, you're forgetting the INSANE amount of awesome games the SNES had in it's first 3 years. Nothing has ever come close, including the 360.

Stevo_the_gamer

PS2 also had a HDD.

The only bar Halo set was the ultimate FPS for anyone to be good at. No scoping and being about an inch away from where the guy was and still getting a kill? Sorry, I would much rather play a game that requires more skill to play. I played Halo 1 and 2 and it was the same stuff rehashed.

He's not saying that, just that achievements are a much better implemented reward system than trophies. I happen to agree.

Your saying the PS3's motion control is good, its one of the reasons I call the PS3 the fracinstation Wii60

Trophies=achievement spinoff

Motion control= Wii spinoff

Gamespot sums up my feelings about Halo accurately: "Halo sets new standards for both console and PC first-person shooters, reshuffling the deck to make even recent games like Red Faction--once considered at least near the forefront of console first-person shooters--look dated by comparison." Your experience with the game are not my concern - and Halo is not the subject in which we were discussing.

Hardly a compelling argument - actaully, it's laughable. I'm assuming you've never even touched a Xbox 360 controller in your life, have you laddy?

Sad when people get backed into a corner and throw out "MY OPINION!" to solely back it up. Stubborn and benighted views at its finest.

this my friends is why ppl around the world dislike americans. you obviously dont understand the concept of opinions do you?

and yes i have played 360 many times. the controller is way better than the original xbox controller but its nothing to brag about. but anyways if my argument is so laughable lets hear yours

If you think HALO is the perfect shooter, then you obviously haven't played alot of shooters. BTW, the archetype for the FPS came out three years before Halo: it's called Half-Life.

I'm afraid I don't understand how some people can throw their opinion out with no foundation. More or less, it doesn't matter. I can go off and spout the holocaust was a myth - made up - it's my opinion, but if I say that with no foundation or reasoning, what does that make me look like? A fool - a heartless fool that is as well.

Merely an example folks, by no means do I think the holocaust was a myth.

I don't have an argument - I'm not arguing about anything laddy. Do you see me saying the Xbox 360 is better? No. I'm merely questioning yours. :?

The story wasn't anything great, halo 1 was really the only good halo, the rest were terrible/mediocre.
