Storage media (A.k.a. Blue ray disk) has nothing to do with graphics, it's basically what it is a storage media. Now the Xbox 360 can read game discs faster than the ps3 can read blue ray game disk's, although ps3 has faster ability to read dvd disk's, it does not have any games on original disk to play.

pretty sad when the Xbox 1.5 can compete and even win %93 of the multi platforms out there.

Actually the 360 has a 12x DVD Drive. The PS3 Drive is 8x DVD.

That's a good thing for the 360 right? Or is this like golf? Doesn't really matter, there haven't been any multiplats that have felt gimped on my 360, and I can think of several on the PS3.

It's actually good for the Xbox 360, the transfer rate of the ps3 blue ray player is only 2X @ I can't remember the rate, hence games take longer loading on the ps3 and can clearlly be seen on Street Fighter 4, Oblivion, gta4, etc. again let me go back to my post, storage media is nothing but storage media, the graphics can only be better on a console if the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is beefed up, in the case of Xbox 360 vs ps3, Xenos has 512 MB and ps3 only 256MB, but ps3 fanboys will convince you that it has 512 because the CPU has 256 as well.

Forza 3 and JRPG's.

Forza 3 does not "need" 2 discs. The core game is in one disc, the second one is extra content. The game is perfectly playable with the main disc.

Well I'm not too sure but what I've heard is that the second disk is there so we can download more tracks and content to the HDD, we wouldn't be able to get that extra content without that disk...so in a way it was needed.

Two discs would be great for all games if done right. One for single player and the second for multiplayer.

space doesn't make better graphics, crysis is the graphics king and is a whole 6gb. but it needs 2gb ram just for itself, ram makes graphics better storage space doesn't

Blu-Ray does help in making larger games but it doesnt really make the games look better. Nonstop-Madness
and it doesn't nothing in making the game bigger if you have no ram. you could put a 1tb drive in consoles an it would be impossible to make a bigger better looking game due to lack of ram. cpu/gpu/ram are what decide how big and how good your game can look. storage doesn't.

Don't forget that Crysis uses alot of repeated resources, such as trees, plants, textures, etc. Also I think much of the vegetation uses procedural generation so instead of storing a bunch of different looking trees of the same species as entire objects in the disc and game data, it's an algorithm that allows for variance but for constants so when you go into a game multiple times, the same tree in the same location always looks the same but different trees in different locations can vary in the number of leaves, branches, etc. Not to sure if Crysis uses PG in this manner, but I think the leaves and branches, not including palm trees, are procedurally generated. Also Crysis like any other game with excellent texture design will use the same textures multiple times, but can vary the look by mapping a flat texture it to a different normal or bump map to give a different effect so you wouldn't even notice or mix the textures + shaders. This would work well with a rock texture where all rocks have different grooves and pits in them but could be of the same material. There are so many tricks and techniques devs can use it's not even funny, but it also saves on disc space. Where it can't really save up on space is RAM because a stored frame of information has to have all that data almalgamized together unless you tile it which can make things a pain. One thing that takes up alot of space though is sound, and as a big plus for the PS3 and games on Blu-Ray discs is you can make a single game disc, and have it possibly store all the localization language tracks on a single disc so as soon as the game loads up, it detects the PS3's region code as well as settings, and sets the language and soundtrack accordingly.

Sorry for a possible double post, but no dev in their right mind would use all 512 MB of the 360's unified memory pool for graphics. While yes, it could be done so the Xenos isn't limited to just 256 MB for graphics memory, neither the Xenos or RSX could really ever handle more than 256 MB of graphics data efficiently probably, though it would be nice if either system had more system memory overall as just because you have plenty just for use in a current frame doesn't mean you have plenty of room for the next frames or the entire level/area. This is Crytek's biggest hurdle for getting Crysis and Crysis 2 on the consoles, and us PC gamers might have to suffer because of that if they decide to purely make the experience the same across all platforms and not allow the PC version to have more than the console's limitations of level exploration. Crysis at max settings in DX10 mode gladly eats up 1.25 GB of RAM if you have that much.

Space really has nothing to do with graphics.. the engine that the game runs on has everything to do with it. Games like KZ 2 look the way they do because, the engine they run on was made specifically to take full advantage of that platforms hardware. Multiplat engines dont do this well at all, & this is why there is always problems with multiplat titles for the PS3/360. With games like FM 3, Allen Wake & SC Conviction for the 360, this will soon change because.. the game engines used to create these games are all optimized for the 360's hardware. :)

I would take 30 second disc swapping over 10 minute mandatory installs anyday of the week. Blu ray sucks for gaming.

your problem is more ram tends to go into non graphics than graphics so it makes no difference. a game like crysis needs 1gb system ram just to run and 256mb min for graphics. no point trying to run it on a 1gb video card and 256mb system ram. ps3/x360 are = in memory.

Unless you go online and all the games use the extra content. It's like trying to play online when everyone has the "optional" DLC and you don't--you get locked out.

360 also has a huge DVD drive failure rate and MS doesn't cover it. After your DVD drive burns out you might want to reconsider your stance on installs.

As for people talking about how capacity has nothing to do with graphics they are pretty much dead wrong. That's why you see a lot of 360 games use repetative or low quality textures (Gears 2). If not that then the game is exceedingly short.

We saw Lost Odyssey ship on 4 disks and the cutscenes were all real time. FF 13 will be lucky to ship on only 4 disks but it's likely going to be 5 plus. Star Ocean was rendered unplayable due to disk swapping. And now that new game from ID will be on multiple disks. Even racing games like that fugazi Gran Turismo clone is shipping on 2 disks. If you wanna play the whole game you gotta install the 2nd disk on your propritary overpriced 360 hard drive.

Then what will they do when companies make games that come on multiple blurays? Have the 360 version ship on 20+ dvds?

Face it, DVD is cheap, outdated tech. It's not 1997 anymore I don't use dial up for my internet and I don't use DVD for media.

Considering that quad-layer BluRays and beyond have yet to come onto the market (which will be compatible with existing PS3s) and that no company has yet to actually fill a dual-layer BD with 50GB of pure, non-redundant data (and that means all sound clips are compressed and virtually no video clips) AND that game productions costs are high enough as they are, I don't see that happening anytime soon.

PS. What's the proof that Lost Osyddey doesn't have a lot of video clips? Anyway, what about the multiple soundtracks?

Because it may affect platform targets. If a game cannot be played on a single disc because it's non-linear or constructed-scenario and/or otherwise has more than 8GB of data that must be accessible at any time, the 360 may be locked out as a platform target. And such scenarios are starting to crop up with Forza 3 (They say it's extra content, but what if everyone else starts using it? Without a hard drive, you could be locked out of many online games.).

Owning both the PS3 and a 360, it's been my thought all along that the PS3 produces cleaner, more stable graphics in most cases. Rabid lemmings will argue this until their keys on their keyboard are rubbed down to nubs and in most cases these fanboys only own a 360, so they are in no position to argue. Man lems can be annoying.

Great games graphically. But nothing which has blown me away. Personally, i thought that Killzone was on of the most boring looking games this gen (no fanboysim).

I don't play stupid screen-shots like most lemmings tend to do. I play the consoles and I know what I see. There isn't much graphical differences and the ones out there are almost unnoticeable unless you are examining the screens. And again the PS3 tends to run games with less hiccups in many of the games I've played.

Also people who own a PS3, a 360 and a Wii like myself really tend to biased unlike the lemmings who own 360s only. You really got me on the biase part,
