General rule of thumb: The better graphics a system has, the more expensive it will be. During the start of this generation, nobody cared aboout the Wii having poor graphics because it was so cheap. The PS3 had good graphics, but then again this makes the price much higher. It is not fair to compare the graphics of a $600 console to a $250 one, which is why nbody even tried to compare Wii and PS3 graphics.

However, in Europe, the Xbox 360 Arcade edition now has a cheaper price than the Wii. Because of this reason, I now think it is fair to compare the graphics to the Wii's. If anybody wants to post screenshots which compare Wii graphics up against Xbox 360 graphics, feel free to do so. They are in the same price range, so it is not unfair to compare them.

Your thoughts? Do you think it is now fair to compare the 360's graphics up against the Wii's now that the 360 is cheaper? Or do the innovate motion sensing controllers justify the Wii's relatively high price?

I dont think it was ever about the price. Well it was, but only to some extent. Its more that Nintendo went for a different focus with the Wii. And its focus is obviously not graphics, so comparing the two would be useless.

Yes, actually Wii should have better graphics to compete now

But you can't have the sophisticated motion controls. Most people don't realize how complicated that technology is. Download the .net librarys sometime and see what it can do. The Wii offers something far more than the 360 and to a lesser extent the ps3.

Frankly, in all games i have used those controls in, felt more like a gimmick, that is akward to use too, than anything else

And RPG's i mostly play, barely have much use for such controls anyway, i will prefer huge dynamic, detailed and stunning looking worlds, with lively NPC's and HUGE detail in things around, like Fable 2, than a game looking like Zelda, just becaue you can aim your bow better (debatable actually, i felt worst with the mote than older controls)

Its not fair to compare the graphics, but it is fair to compare on what you get on each pack. 360- current gen system, memory card, a few games. Wii- Current gen system *with ps2 last generation graphics*, and wii sports. So you tell me. Pay for a ps2 with new games and a new controller, or pay for a true current gen system? Which is worth more? Sure, the 360 doesn't have the hard drive in it, but it plays fine without it.

Yeh, you could compare the graphics, but that would be offset by the fact that the Wii has motion control, however that pales in value when you compare the library of games that the two consoles have, ie. Wii is crammed full of shovelware with a few system sellers dropped in for good measure whereas the Xbox 360 has a lot of good games, a few system sellers and a bunch of playable mediocre titles.

The Xbox suffers with something called *VARIETY* !! If the Xbox was only £150 I'd still go with my Wii as its more fun than anything which at the current moment is on the Xbox. Yes the Wii has shovelware but so does the Xbox but i will admit not to the extent of the Wii as it is the cheapest console to stick shovelware on as previous console software has not changed much too the Wii's. Saying the Wii-mote is a gimmick is more of a joke than anything else! Try Mario and Sonic at the Olympics and say the Xbox 360 can offer anything close to that ammount of family fun or play MP3 and say the remote does not suit the style of gameplay in a FPS or that Mario galaxy does not deserve its GOTY award for how much innovation that Nintendo put into making that game. I can mention several other games like RE:UC , MoH2, Trauma Centre which feel great on a Wii but i wont.

Theres no debate on this really! Yes graphics on Xbox are better.

Yesterday i was playing Army of 2 and i have to say i felt like i was back in the dark ages using Analog!! It feels so primitive its beyond words. Not a bad game but my gosh Analog is soooo 1997.

Soon i should see the PS3 dropping its price! Whoopee.

No it still wouldn't be fair to compare the old archaic control scheme of the X360 with that of the Wii. No wonder X360 is cheaper

Does it or does it not use Analog sticks to control the aiming? It does. I can go play CoD4 if you would like me too and tell you the same thing in 10 minutes time.

You could, but then you could go play Red Steel or something. I've gone from the Wii to 360 countless times but I've never really thought 360 games need motion sensing or that Wii games need duel analog sticks, with the exception of the down right awful Wii games like Farcry and Redsteel.

Even then the best wii games use at least one analog stick.

I like CoD and i have found it the best game on either xbox or PS3! The motion sensing in the Wii pad just feels so good for shooting games it beyond beleif! With some games at least the old double analog feels primitive! I wont say this for all games as the old pads still feel perfect for games like Tekken, Need for Speed.

Firstly, I would have thought they wouldnt drop the price of the Wii since its still sold out in most places. Its only when demand drops that you should lower prices.

Secondly, are you referring to the core 360? Cause the core aint worth jack. The premium on the other hand.....

And don't get me started on how annoyed I am at MS and Sony for trying to turn their consoles into mini-PC's. Giving us a choice between multiple versions just makes things a nightmare for the consumer, especially thise who are merely looking for a console, not a serious, long time hobby. I mean, you buy one version cause its all they have, or its the best one they have, only for a new version to get announced shortly after. Its never happened to me, but ill bet its happened to quite a few.

I mean, they do that with PC's all the time. Its just another way of scamming money out of people who arent obsessive geeks like we are.

Or do the innovate motion sensing controllers justify the Wii's relatively high price?

for sure it is fair to compare the graphics of all the consoles. thats funny the better price is on the better console

The current implementation is not what I am talking about. I'm talking about the potential and monetary value of the technology that the Wii encompasses. Besides, there are some excellent use of motion controls. I would rather play a tennis game with awesome motion controls than a tennis game with near realistic gfx.

I also play mostly RPGs, but I don't really feel there are any worth playing on consoles at this point. I prefer core RPGs like those based on the d20/dnd rules. To this day, the closest modern game I have found to actual pen and paper role playing is Temple of Elemental Evil. If I'm going to be completely honest, I don't really consider jRPGs true RPGs. The Final Fantasy series was great in it's hayday, and even some it's latter iterations are worth a play through, however I don't feel they deserve praise as an RPG series when they are compared to series like Baldur's Gate and Gothic.

But hey, that's just my opinion, I mean, I still play MUDs. I do like the 360 (I have one at my house while my friend is between houses), good shooters. The PS3 however......well I'll just wait for Jak4 or Sly4.

Naa stick to medal of honour, isn't that the one the wii got? I'm sure that's a true experiance compared to a lame old game like COD4.

Cause obviously new controls over proven and tested controls outshines the bad graphics, bad sound, bad gameplay and everything else. :\

hahaha, the usual "Wii si more fun" damage control

Wii is NOT more fun than my 360, and depends totally in the games you like to play

I play mostly RPG's, and i never buy silly games like SMG and SSBB etc, and i oculd never have as much fun as i had with Mass Effect, Bioshock or Lost odyssey, simply because games like those would never be possible on Wii, and in 2008 gets MUCH worst for my Wii, with games like Fable 2, Fallout 3, Alan Wake, Ninja Gaiden 2, Too human,. etc etc amking it look more and more like a overpriced kid toy than a real next gen gaming machine IMO

Now to the "VARIETY", 360 covers RPGs, platformers, strategy, action, shooters etc

Wii has no real RPG's to speak of, no strategy titles, mediocre shooters and zero adventures yet, only some mediocre games, and some high scoring silly games like SMG and SSBB, real am,azing variety you have there

Bad gameplay!! Thats the funniest thing i heard all day. You got any more remarkable jokes which you might wanna share with us today or has your small undeveloped brain told all the funny jokes it can do.

Medal of Honour was good game. MP3 is fantastic and better than CoD4! Oh sorry that the graphics argument doesnt affect the GAMEPLAY aspect of a game!! Graphics arent everything! Yes i will stick with MP3 any day of the week, Month, Year to anything which either the 2 so called next gen consoles can offer in FPS.

The only gimmick out at the moment is Microsoft and Sony who keep bringing out packs like Core packs, Elite edition packs, HardCore Elite edition pack, Anerexic core pack, The Pack with no name, the 2-pack edition and so forth!! those are the real gimmicks. I'm going to wait untill the price drops on the PS3 as im sure that Sony wont be far behind Microsoft with the price drops.

3.1GB storage left

That's why. In order to get the true 360 experiance you need a har drive, otherwise you're only getting a fraction of whats avialable to you. Yesterday i downloaded the Bring Down the Sky content for Mass Effect and played on a few live games, sure you can play those games but having to constantly delete and redownload them destrys the experiance.

Shazenab

Well, that is extra, if you want demos etc it is your choice, if you JUST want to play 99.9% of 360 games, with the amazing graphics, you JUST need the core, nothing more

Those things aren't IMO. Playing games offline on the 360, not being able to download added content destoys one of the systems key advantages (mainly against the ps3, less so against the wii since online in basically non existant on that system).

Oh and ok you can play alot of 360 games, but it does seem like the current trend does require a very small hard drive install. CoD4 needs it, GTAIV will have it and a great deal of other games would benefit from it.

The 360 Core was renamed the 360 arcade so it's clear which market they're aiming for, but that just makes things even worse. If you're going to get a system purely on arcade titles alone you need more storage space, not less. The vast majority of my hard drive space is dedicated to Arcade games and calling your system "Arcade" and them limiting that market due to file size is stupid.

[QUOTE="PandaBear86"]

Or do the innovate motion sensing controllers justify the Wii's relatively high price?

saolin323

Yes, actually Wii should have better graphics to compete now

ew these pics are horrible. crysis blows this linear 8 hour game out the water.

Yes, they are IYO, if someone is low on money, and has to choose between 360 core and Wii, the 360 core STILL can play ALL 360 games, which is the IMPORANT thing, abnd the graphics are still generations ahead of Wii graphics

So, in the context of our discussion here, no, the HDD plays no major role in 360 core advantages, comparing to Wii, the stunning looking games, the diverse huge lineup, the AAA stunning titles are the main attrractions, and definatly not only .. arcade games !!! hahahahah

Are you mad, you mean that anyone with a core, owuld only play arcade titles, and not get say Bioshock, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, etc etc etc etc just because can't get some minor extra stuff of the net ???

That is laughable, or TBH THE most laughable thing i have ever read here

You do undestand that with the CORE, you can 100% play Fable 2, Fallout 3, Far cry 2, Alan Wake, Grand Theft Auto 4, Alone in the Dark, Aliens Colonial Marines, Too Human, Ninja Gaiden 2

TRUST ME, the core has more than ........arcade games !!! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Fable LC was 25+ hours, Fable 2 is 10x bigger, so how do you do the math ? Try 50-60 hours to see half of what it offers

And if you count art, those are my TRILLIONS OF MILES the best looking graphics i have ever seen, and are 100% dynamic too, everyhting moves and NPC's have real lives, sun move etc

The world is VAST, and totally free roaming too, so get your "facts" straight fanboy

Someone who buys an Arcade doesn't want to play Bioshock and Fable 2, they want to play casual crap. The same casual crap that the wii has more of.

Are you honestly telling me that a hardcore gamer would go out and buy a system because it is cheaper? The audience the arcade is trying to appeal to and the audience the premuim appeals to are two vastly different things. The arcade has great games for the wiicentric gamer, but the Wii trounces all over the Arcades market. Money cant change the tastes of Wii gamers and the core wont attract hardcore gamers.

They save up. If you find money that hard to come buy then how, as a hardcore gamer, can you possibly afford more than three games a year (that add up to £150)?
