For AAA shooters: Ps3 has killzone 2 & Resistance 2, 360 has Halo 3 &Perfect Dark Zero.
As for sport games, most are multiplat but PS3 has MLB 09: The Show (AAA)
As for online, the PS3 has less laag and is free, but the 360 has better community, but cots 50$ a year.

xlive has more lag than psn. Out of 2.5 years with psn I've never experienced lag once. 8 months with xlive I experienced it sometimes.

"That would be wrong. Live has all kinds of problems. Gears 2 multiplayer is broken and most LIVE games you can't get over 16 players without it lagging."
You are generalizing an entire service for a problem that one game has. You're pretty off base with that. Not to mention that games like COD 4, etc use the same type of connection that XBL does and has just as many problems.
"While PSN has games like Warhawk & Killzone2 with 32 players that are lag free and even Resistance 2 with 60 players online and it runs lag free as well."
No game on the internet runs lag free. That is straight up false.
"Personally I think PSN is the superior service because it also offers internet browser support, less DRM on download games, remote play, bigger games, HOME, etc... And it's all free."
Your opinion is noted. But I have a PS3 also and none of those things have made a difference in my opinion.Although I do like their policy on downloadable content more than MS.
"Right now LIVE has a bigger community, but I even think as time goes on it's destined to be eclipsed by PSN in terms of number of players, mainly because of the cost and the fact that you can have seperate accounts for other members in your house without paying an additional fee"
They've already had 2 years with the service being free and XBL's userbase isn't getting any smaller. In order for PSN to eclipse live, they would have to add some pretty compelling changes to PSN, something I really don't think Sony is going to do. Yes it's free but I think that MS completely outclasses Sony in the online arena. Just as Sony and Apple outclass MS in regards to hardware.
Ah, the daily "which console should I buy?" thread. A little later than usual. Anyway, you should wait a little while longer because there may be a PS3 price cut soon. Since you don't want to use any of the multimedia stuff, $400 may be a little much. Or you could just get a 360 now and 1 year of XBL for as little as $250.Floppy_Jimcheap isnt always better..

No game on the internet runs lag free. That is straight up false. - Okay I should clarify, no noticeable lag to the player.
- Why doesn't it make a difference? I love having the internet browser on PS3. It's very convenient. Support for larger games is a big plus as well.

For example my brother is not a big gamer if we both had 360s I guarantee he would not pay to be online, but with PS3 he is and we can game every so often because it's free.

well, one way you can help yourself decide is, look at the games that they both offer and then choose whatever games appeal to you, but in terms of quality they both pretty much equal themselves out in one way or another coming from someone that once owned both but then my 360 got red ring, and my ps3 wouldn't read the games anymore except the movie 300 for some very very strange reason lol. But the game library of both of them are both good, IT'S ALL BASED ON OPINIONS on which is better.;)
[QUOTE="snverhallen"]So I know this is discussed endlessly but I'm so stuck. Every time I think I want to get a 360 I see something that makes me want to get a PS3 and vice versa. So in terms of what is important for me is good FPS games, good sport games like FIFA, and good online multiplayer, and good multiplayer natively. Why I'm unsure is because I always here that the PS3 is better for the future, and that the 360 is just better or the same as the PS3 now and I really don't wanna give out money for a 360 when people are saying that is not as in the future. Another issue is the exclusives. Like I said I like FPS (I don't think exclusivity is such a big problem with sports titles), and I love Halo but then again the PS3 has Killzone 2 and MGS4. And 360 also has GOW. And of course price, the 360 is obviously cheaper without all the (necessary?) accesories, but with those accesories your getting up to a PS3 price anyway. I don't really need a lot of multimedia capabilities, I just want to use it solely for gaming, maybe a movie here and there but I wouldn't be using it as my Entertainment hub, or I don't think anyway. So as you can see I'm a bit stuck. On a side note, I visited Guerilla Studios in Amsterdam the other day just for fun, here's a pic - http://s5.tinypic.com/33ol8p0.jpg Any help would be highly appreciated, and try and keep as much of a neutral view as possible please.stayhigh1If you want a system with reliablity and great fps games get the ps3.Also it future proof even if you dont use Blu-Ray you can always have just in case you plan on buying movies... The PS3 got Resistance 1 and 2, Warhawk, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Socom Confrontation, Uncharted 1 and 2, and Mag.. The 360 got Halo 3 and Gears 1 and 2,,
I love how in your PS3 list of shooters you have 2 games that aren't even out yet. Nice bias...
Get both eventually. The only deciding factor for now would be how much you're interested in PC gaming. If you aren't interested at all then get a Xbxo 360, it has the best library. If you plan on playing some FPS on your PC then get PS3 because it has more exclusives.
But, either way you like at it, you're missing out on some truly great games no matter which console you pick.

Wrong, stayhigh1 listed games that can be played on those platforms, he never said they were exclusives.Having both it is pretty hard giving a straight answer TBH...It's kinda like if I started giving points to one system over another I'd basically be telling you what you want or need in a game system. Like I find the 360 controller much better, there are plenty of people who genuinely feel otherwise, I could tell you Xbox Live! is the better service to PSN, but someone else will tell you it's not worth the money (and to them it really isn't)....lol and I'm not even gonna get into the games. Basically everything here is just peoples opinions and they differ vastly, if you know the features and games to both systems you should know better than anyone else what you want. Ilikemyname420I have to agree here as I have had both consoles since their launch and I do prefer the 360 over the PS3 but both have things I like. As he said we all can only give you are opinions and considering only you know what you are really looking for, only you can make that choice.
I would say get both because honestly thats the best answer, having both systems are great, but considering the state of the economy I understand if you cant. You should do a lot of research and remember most will be someones opinion, which may or may not be misleading.
Good Luck

Still 360 has a lot "console exclusives" like Gears of War, Mass Effect and Left 4 Dead...
/////////////////////////////////////////////this is an exclusive list Gears 1 and Left4Dead are not exclusives and there's a chance Gears 2 and Halo 3 might come to PC as well.Host011Wrong, stayhigh1 listed games that can be played on those platforms, he never said they were exclusives./////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// the OP is writting on his PC I presume in fact most people have PC and can play the 360's best games on PC I got Gears 1 and Left4Dead on PC. the fact is those games are not exclusive and you don't need a 360 to play them. The fact is, the OP asked for opinions for 360 vs PS3, not PC, even if he has a PC, it doesn't mean he like to play games on it. I myself have a nice little computer, but I don't really like playing on it because I am studying in multimedia so I'm always on a PC.
So I know this is discussed endlessly but I'm so stuck. Every time I think I want to get a 360 I see something that makes me want to get a PS3 and vice versa. So in terms of what is important for me is good FPS games, good sport games like FIFA, and good online multiplayer, and good multiplayer natively. If you truly enjoy multiplayer vs. just dablling with it, XBL is WAY better. Why I'm unsure is because I always here that the PS3 is better for the future, which is merely an excuse cows used to excuse the PS3 sucking at the time. The generation is half over already and by the time this "future" comes about the 720 and PS4 will have been out for a while already. and that the 360 is just better or the same as the PS3 now and I really don't wanna give out money for a 360 when people are saying that is not as in the future COWS say this. The PS3 has the least bright future with the way its selling and performing.. Another issue is the exclusives. Like I said I like FPS (I don't think exclusivity is such a big problem with sports titles), and I love Halo but then again the PS3 has Killzone 2 and MGS4. Unless you have a PC, there are tons of games that aren't exclusive to the 360(since you can play them on a gaming PC), but they aren't on the PS3 either. And 360 also has GOW. And of course price, the 360 is obviously cheaper without all the (necessary?) accesories NONE of the accessories are necessary. Every sku can play virtually the entire library of games. You may want some of them, but you have to buy an awful lot to get it to the price of the PS3., but with those accesories your getting up to a PS3 price anyway. I don't really need a lot of multimedia capabilities, I just want to use it solely for gaming, maybe a movie here and there but I wouldn't be using it as my Entertainment hub you just eliminated 90% of the reason to get a PS3 over a 360 then., or I don't think anyway. So as you can see I'm a bit stuck. On a side note, I visited Guerilla Studios in Amsterdam the other day just for fun, here's a pic - http://s5.tinypic.com/33ol8p0.jpg Any help would be highly appreciated, and try and keep as much of a neutral view as possible please.snverhallenEverything you wrote says the 360 is the machine for you, you just have to weigh the exclusives you want on each machine and see which you like better and if the PS3 benefits you enough to justify spending more money.

CreepyBacon
Superior games library is a point of opinion. I happen to like the PS3 exclusives library more than 360.
the difference between Live and PSN is that Live is P2P and PSN uses dedicated servers. Funny considering people have to pay to use live.
But which consoles do your friends own? Which ever is in the majority, i would go with that. more friends to play with online.
Maybe for a guy with a GS name called metalgear-solid ;).PlayStation 3 has MGS4. There, that should make your decision easy.
metalgear-solid
XBL: MS doesn't give you dedicated servers for gears halo or any of their games, there are some dedicated servers on XBL but it's provided by a thirdparty developer/publisher not by MS.
PSN: Sony gives you dedicated servers for all their first party games, some third party developers/publishers provide dedicated servers while some don't. But the ones that don't provides dedicated servers don't provide it either on XBL.
So PSN is superior because of dedicated servers + free.
XBL is a rip-off (imagine buying COD4 for $60 and you only get access to singleplayer, EPIC FAIL) , they decorate it with so many features that you don't even use and you have to pay for them.
360 has RROD and E-74 (which is probably just RROD that MS cleverly put another name on so they can say RROD is a minimal problem). Not to mention Disc Scratching.
PS3 > 360. Unless you want to play old games, get a 360. If you want to play new games get a PS3.
For AAA shooters: Ps3 has killzone 2 & Resistance 2, 360 has Halo 3 &Perfect Dark Zero.

That's weird, I've always heard that Live has less lag and that PSN has quite a bit of lag. That would be wrong. Live has all kinds of problems. PSN isn't as good, I've had experience with both and can say without a doubt, gaming on psn is much more buggy, lessy intuitive, and harder to connect with people. I heard somewhere that sony charges companys that go through the portal per gb kinda like downloading on a cell phone so its optimized to use less data. If you take a game like Call of Duty world at war and compare them, its worth the extra cost for live. In game is fairly similar, and gears 2 is not broken, it never was, it was slightly buggy but they patched it and its pro now.If you just want a gaming machine, 360 hands down, live is much better in my experience, and 99% of the games are multiplat.
