Xbox 360 sales in UK increase by 214%, outselling PS3 by more than 2-to-1 ratio

Microsoft has said Xbox 360 sales have increased by 214% following the simultaneous price cut of all three models in Europe.

The result has been Xbox 360 outselling rival system PS3 by more than two-to-one during the last two weeks, according to the Chart-Track figures.

"Our commitment to continuously improving and innovating new content, our new high-profile marketing campaign and the fact that we're now the best-value next-gen console on the market with an entry-level ERP of GBP 129.99 combine to make Xbox 360 the right blend of gaming and wider experiences at the right price to offer unparalleled entertainment for everyone. And these figures prove it," said Chris Lewis, Xbox 360 Euro boss.

On 19th September, Microsoft reduced the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade unit to GBP 129.99, the Xbox 360 Premium to GBP 169.99, and the Xbox 360 Elite to GBP 229.99.

Microsoft plans to drive more Xbox 360 sales this Christmas by releasing karaoke game Lips, Live Vision camera title You're in the Movies, and the redesigned family-friendly Xbox Live interface.

Don't mean to alarm you, but there is only 1 month of June, not months. And MGS4 has already come out, not is coming out.

And holiday month console sales will blow June out of the water in both November and December. Heck even last September (Halo 3) probably had larger sales.

360 - released november 2005 to today = approx. 2 years 10 months so 34 months
PS3 - released november 2006 to today = approx. 1 year 10 months so 22 months

Considering ps3 outsold 360 from april until end of august, thats 5 months. 360 has outsold PS3 for 29 of its 34 months that its been on the market. 29/34 = 85%. PS3 has outsold 360 for 5 months of its 22 months on the market. 5/22 = 23%. (100% - 23% = 77% outsold by 360)

By these numbers, 360 from release to today has outsold PS3 85% of the time 360 has been available.
By these numbers, PS3 from release to today has been outsold by the 360 77% of the time PS3 has been available.

If those numbers don't make sense to you, you need to finish public school math.

im sorry i should explain.

back when the 360 was just launching tons of threads spawned up asking two questions:

1. how long would the 360 last when the ps3 was released

and 2. how many units would the 360 sell.

when it came to topics asking how much would the 360 sell in it's lifetime cows would just say "15-20 million" and then following that by saying the xbox sold around that much it should be expected for the next console to sell the same amount since people that only owned an xbox would only buy an xbox360. of course this logic was only used to make it look like the ps3 was going to sell the same amount of units as the ps1/ps2.

when the sales of the 360 started to slow down alot of cows would simply say "everybody that wanted a 360 already has one"meanwhile they were 120 million people that were dieing for a ps3. :roll:

The numbers show considerable growth from 2007 - both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 have shifted a million units since the same period last year when their installed base was 0.4 million and 1.3 million, respectively.

So basically the x360 has kept its lead against PS3, and is now pulling away with the advertising campaign (something that PS3 has had plenty of) and price cut. Sony needs to cut the price again fast unless they want to be distant third world wide.

im not to worried. first of all ms already had a price drop in the eu this year well their doing it again and its not because they love consumers. there were heading for third fast.its been proven that price drops are a temporary spike in sales. the in japan spiked up to 28000 and fell to 13000. tomorrow will see if it fell again. in the eu sales are going to drop as well. if anything sony should wait about 2 months before they do anything. i would watch the market and see if 360 sales go down. if they don't thats when sony should react. but if they fall ms is going to be looking real stupid because thats there last trump card.

That is a flat out lie.Even before the sales drop and such, the ps3 was not outselling the 360, it's remained a good million ahead all this time.

Still though £120 for a 360 is extremely cheap, brings into realization just how badly Nintendo is rolling in it right now, cause the price of a wii is daylight robbery. o.0

Waiting two months and risk losing momentum just before the holiday season is a dangerous gamble. Price drops can have a long lasting effect, PS3 sold like crap after launch before they dropped the price to €399 in Europe. There's a big difference between £160 and £130 i many peoples eyes, you're competing with PS2 at that price. This time Microsoft also have a big advertising campaign, which is something new for them in Europe. Sony needs to act fast before it's too late.
