It's a comparitive thing, not an absolute thing. If the only FPS game I ever played was Goldeneye on N64 then yeah I'd still love it. But after playing Perfect Dark, then on PS2 games like Timesplitters, Black, Half Life etc, and then on 360 playing Bioshock, COD4, Halo 3, etc, Goldeneye is complete rubbish to go back to.
I guess you could say that's just my preference, but to me it's like gaming is a constant pursuit of better experiences. Stuff that is amazing today will be outdone in a few years, and that stuff will also be outdone someday. Gaming is still evolving so much based on tech, there's so much more potential to unlock. Devs are racing ahead and outdoing each other constantly, it's mental.
I don't see it as sad or bad that todays games will probably be mostly forgotten in 10 years, I see it as a positive that the games of the future will be so much better :)
But is GoldenEye 64, at this time, a worse game than it was when it was released? is the game, actualy worse? I dont believe it is, I believe it is still that same quality, playable game that was released almost 15 years ago. Time doesnt degrade how good a game is, only what you expect from your money, or hardware. Goldeneye is still Goldeneye but gaming has moved on and standards have vastly raised. If released today Goldeneye would get 2/10 for ugly graphics, bad framerate, rubbish AI, midi music, no voices, etc. It's not Goldeneye's fault, it's just things have improved all round and gamers want more. In the same way there was nothing "wrong" with silent movies or black and white TV, yet talkies and colour TV kinda obsolete them :)

Im not so sure the argument of ''if it was released now'' is so fool proof. If you remove goldeneye 64 from history, and released it now as a DD title, do you think it would score 2/10? I really hope that wouldnt be the case, especially when goldeneye did so much for the shooters we have today. I'm afraid so. The game is more or less junk when compared to today's FPS games. I respect the game for what it did, and loved it and played it for years. But it's time has passed. There are certain games like Mario World for example, that play pretty much perfectly and will always be awesome. But most games have problems/areas for improvement.
Gamers wanting more doesn't just mean shiny graphics. If we compare Halo Reach for example to Goldeneye, the graphics and sound obviously are worlds apart, but also the framerate is much better, the control is more fluent, the enemies have miles better AI, there's more of them on screen, physics causes wacky stuff to happen (explosion sends debris flying and kills an enemy half way across the map), the levels are bigger, the draw distance is better, there are more vehicles and paths to take, there's dedicated buttons for grenades and melee as opposed to awkwardly switching, and so on.
There's a difference between "good for it's time" and "good forever". The standard of what we consider "good" DOES change very much as time goes on, tech improves and devs get more creative.

I swithced from xbox to PS3 and the ONLY multiplat I saw a difference in was Splinter Cell Double Agent, the frame rate was better on xbox. But the PS3 version had extra content and more detail in graphics so it evens out, I don't notice in Fallout 3 (after patch) or RDR or Oblivion. I know Oblivion was "better" on PS3 but I still didn't see it. You guys can keep trying to convince yourself that you see a difference, because we ALL know you don't either.
But let's compare exclusives shall we? Halo vs Killzone, which looks better? The answer is obviously Killzone. Let's look at Gears an Uncharted, obviously Uncharted. I'm not saying Halo and Gears are bad, I think they are good series. But PS3 exclusives mop the floor with 360 exclusives, if you want to compare multiplats well let's compare exclusives where there is a REAL difference.
Oh and I am 90 hours in Skyrim with a 12MB save file and still no lag, only framerate drops that happens to me is when I first enter a town. But it only lasts a few minutes. And besides they just had an update that probably fixed it, I have a friend who was having issues but now since the update he isn't. Plus it's not like the 360 version is perfect, it has a ton of issues.

Everything you have listed in that para is superficial to the game being good, by that I mean playable. All of it without exception.
I guess we just want different things from games then. I want them to be playable, I dont need a game to have better framerates, better ai, physics, explosions and mega draw distances for a game to be good. Its sauce on a good steak, much better than sauce on a poor one.

Gears 3 looks pretty good but it doesn't even come close to Uncharted 3 or Killzone ect... sorry but 360 doesn't have exclsuives that can match the PS3. You can keep your invisible differences in multiplats because I don't care about that. I care about exclusives and guess what? The 360 has FAILED in category as of now,no wait that isn't entirely true. You still have kinect exclusives so I guess that counts, but if your not into that then your system doesn't have anything to offer you besides multiplats that have an invisible difference.

Yeah, well, Skyrim and Crysis are counter arguments for sure, I don't disagree. But others like Dead Space 2, L.A. Noire, Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat have been better on the PS3, in all honesty. Also, Gears 3 had a lot of rough textures and character models had a few rough edges too. It was a brilliant looking game over all, but it need just a little more polish. Uncharted 3 still looks better, with its mind blowing particle and light effects. And The Last of Us is going to outdo even that. I don't really care about the visuals much, though, I had a hell lot of fun with both UC3 and Gears 3. lol you lems can keep tyring to run from this, but you can't. I swithced from xbox to PS3 and the ONLY multiplat I saw a difference in was Splinter Cell Double Agent, the frame rate was better on xbox. But the PS3 versionhad extra content and more detail in graphics so it evens out

I didn't say it was that big of a deal, the game came out on PS3 a year later or so. The framerate was lower, but not by that much. The extra graphic detail wasn't that much better, but it was noticiable if you played both for a long time like I did. But either way it doesn't matter because it wasn't THAT much noticible, and most multiplats are even less noticble. The fact that you need to go to some website to tell you otherwise proves my point, there is hardly a difference between them. A difference I don't care about.
Now in exclusives that is another story, it must suck playing Halo and Gears and Fable and looking at the PS3 exclusives like Uncharted or Killzone ect...it's too bad you didn't buy a PS3. But I'm not saying those games are bad, they are good, but they don't hold a candle to PS3 exclusives.
You bought the right system for multiplats, I bought the right system for multiplats AND exclusives ;)

Yes, the 360 has a majority of better looking multiplats. They range from minimally better looking to much better looking, but better nonetheless.
Gears 3 looks better than a lot of the PS3 exclusives. UC3 is about equal, and i'd give it the nod due to the art direction. Killzone 3 is also damn good looking.

except that contrary to what you said, DF has actually proven that double agent on the ps3 lacks in graphical detail compared to the 360 version, big time!

lol I don't care, don't see a problem with Skyirm. I'm 12 MB save and 90 hours in and no issues at all, so why would I be upset about something that I'm not expereincing. Don't care about multiplats being "better" on 360 either, I don't see a difference so why would I care?
Exclusives I care about because they are better on PS3. And you don't needa dumb website to prove it, sorry nothing on 360 looks as good as PS3 exclusives.
