I have no respect for people complaining about a $4.00 monthly fee. That's like buying a hamburger.-Tretiak
At least im actually getting something when i buy the hamburger...
For those of you who complain about it, I have something to say to you, **** **. It is 50 bucks a year. About $4 a month. I can pay off my mounthly fee WEEKLY and it would not affect me because 1. It worth it, and 2. I find more than that on the street all the time. Not to mention the fact those 50 dollars gives you. Being able to see what my friends are doing cross game, easy ways to talk to people, and much more. Just so you know, free doesn't always mean better, and it is apparent in this case.hal02g0d
Its roughly .14 cent per day. I spend more on fuel for my car in a week than I do on live. Its always running in the background, easy as hell to do friend invites (PSN sucks when it comes to that), video conference, voice chat, blah blah blah. Someone will come in here and say "but teh lems got milked and are teh owned". My response, who really got OWNED by purchasing a $600 console that its competition can play damn near the majority of the same games for $200 less...
Enjoy paying what would ammount to an extra game a year... for P2P play...GundamGuy0
The extra $200 for the PS3 gets you 4 games. oops I mean 3 and 1/2. "If" the game is released yet...
Server-Based Online Multiplayer
"Live online gameplay sucks. A weapon like Halo 2's energy sword or Gears of War's shotgun offer strong evidence that the user hosting a match-which translates into having no lag at all-has a terrible advantage over the other players.
Paying for peer-to-peer online gameplay is a scam. If we are paying to play online, the least we deserve is a server-based system where matches are hosted on a server provided by Microsoft. "

dont forget about PSN's secret costs. Sony stated that some developers could make a fee for there games. with XBL, you have to pay a universal fee fo rall games, plus a optional fee for MMOs. atleast with XBL I know if i have to P2P

You're getting the best console online service with the $4.00.
No if you take away what you get on silver for free, your paying to use your Xbox 360 as a server for games that you've already bought with your bandwidth which you are paying for.
Your in effect paying for the ability to use what you've already bought.
Sure it's the best... But a good value for your money...not so much.

Lettuceman, know what you speak of, or at least know what the person your quoting speaks of before you claim ownage. And yes, i play Everquest.
Question Why do I pay a monthly fee to play EverQuest?
AnswerEverQuest is an Online Internet game that provides the capability to have thousands of players meet and play online. As you can imagine, it takes a considerable amount of resources to keep these servers online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The $14.99 per month fee goes towards maintaining our services, which includes technical support, e-mail/chat assistance, and in-game assistance. In order to be successful, it is necessary for us to maintain a high level of quality in terms of service, game play, and new content; this we strive to provide for our customers.
Almost all games in the Massively Multiplayer genre (Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, Dragon Realms, etc&) charge a service fee, for the use of servers and databases. We also hire full time support personnel and Game Masters online. Neverwinter Nights, BF1942, Quake and other games of that sort, don't have huge server loads, nor are they as complex as EverQuest.
