Lettuceman, know what you speak of, or atl east know what the person your quoting speaks of before you claim ownage. And yes, i play Everquest.

QuestionWhy do I pay a monthly fee to play EverQuest?AnswerEverQuest is an Online Internet game that provides the capability to have thousands of players meet and play online. As you can imagine, it takes a considerable amount of resources to keep these servers online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The $14.99 per month fee goes towards maintaining our services, which includes technical support, e-mail/chat assistance, and in-game assistance. In order to be successful, it is necessary for us to maintain a high level of quality in terms of service, game play, and new content; this we strive to provide for our customers.

Almost all games in the Massively Multiplayer genre (Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, Dragon Realms, etc&) charge a service fee, for the use of servers and databases. We also hire full time support personnel and Game Masters online. Neverwinter Nights, BF1942, Quake and other games of that sort, don't have huge server loads, nor are they as complex as EverQuest.

like I said, what If I don't want to play a MMO with a fee? Hmm?

Guild Wars

Since when Guild Wars became MMORPG?

It is Online RPG, not MMORPG.

Open your eyes lemmings. To you, $50 maybe nothing but compared to PSN, everything is almost the same.

MS is generating freerevenues off from xbox live for doing absolutely nothing.

Technically, it is not. but it still does have most of the features of a MMO, without the fee

One thing I don't understand.

Why are 360 owners ok with paying for something they shouldn't? Should they demand Microsoft to make Xbox Live free service because Microsoft actually don't do anything.

Unless you are talking about MMORPG, which 360 also have called Final Fantasy XI. The difference is that MMORPG actually provides dedicated servers and many people working as customer service called GMs.

I have a 360 and the fact that MS charges for XBL is complete garbage. I currently have a free Silver membership. I enjoy all the XBL features the paying gold members do except for online play. Since all 360 games use p2p for multiplayer, gold members are effectively paying MS $50 a year to use thier own internet connection. Can you imagine how pissed people would be if this crap was tried by some other industry? What if Toyota started charging people to transfer gas from the tank to the engine. Consumer: But it's my gas, I already paid for it. Toyota: Yes, but you didn't pay to use it with our product. Stop defending MS. Despite the fact that I love my 360, they are nothing but money grubbing vultures and XBL gold charges prove it.

They pay $500-$600 for their videogame system and then they laugh at us for paying $50 more???

Right now as we speak there are:

99 demos,

145 game videos,

168 gamer themes,

170 gamer pictures,

263 movies,

212 tv shows,

11 music videos,

and 84 arcade games and you can try the trials first for every arcade game before you buy them.

The PSN and Wii online combined have nothing on XBL. Xbox Live have a consistent steady stream of content available for download. Every Wednesday there is a new arcade game guaranteed! That's every week!

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 HD Remix is coming out for both XBL and PSN the end of the month, but I wouldn't b surprise if the PSN version gets delayed or if its inferior than the superior XBL version. Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is the Juggernautfor every thing related to video gaming and entertainment. Jump in.

MMO stands for massive multiplayer online

Guild Wars, although they do put you in a town with massive number of people, it is essentially nothing but pretty channels. The actual game is small group of people playing together, which makes it online RPG, not MMORPG. Very similar to Diablo except Guild War masks the channel and creating room using towns.

There is a reason why you don't pay monthly fees in Guild Wars.

Thank You kind sir. As far as live, do you people honestly think I have a problem renewing my subscription of $50 a year? The arguement "you shouldnt have to pay to play your 360 online" FAILS because I "shouldnt" have to pay a cable bill to watch my damn tv. I shouldnt have to pay for fuel to keep my car running. live is user friendly and not once have I had an issue with it. "Bu bu but its $50 a year". Please, my fiance and I damn near triple that at one night at Red Lobster or Ruth Chris Steak House.

Jump in.

myke2010

excuse my ignorance because i've never used Live, but can i get all that with a silver membership?

Yes you can. I have silver and can get all that stuff.

Then what's the point of listing all that? Those are free in the first place.

[QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"]Thank You kind sir.

My point that I stated above somewhere was that if I'm paying 60 dollars for a game that comes with online why do I have to pay extra to access something that should come included with the games price?

My problem with Live online play is with console sharing... If you have 4 people who want to play an online game, each of them have to pay $50 a year just to play online with their own profile...

In all seriousness, while PC online gaming is way better, Sony had the right idea this time around..

I have silver and I also got those items for free. And outlaw was right, all the movies, arcade games, and many downloads are not free. They cost microsoft points which you pay money for. Gold membership covers nothing but online play. And since you already pay an ISP for your internet connection and MP games are hosted P2P, what is it you are paying MS for exactly?

Like you can't use your PC to download movie trailers, game trailers, and the like, in pristine 1080p? And they're avaliable free...

And the dashboard theme thing is ridiculous... You can't even preview them before you buy... ONly to realize you spent money on an MSPaint cut and paste job...

(no I didn't ever buy a theme... waste of money... Waste of my precious unlimited bandwidth)

I never said it was a big deal. I am explaining what you are paying for, no need to be "hostile". On the PC some people pay for the servers, not everyone. In MMOs everyone pays just like they do with Xbox Live, the price is typically higher for MMO games because of the labor that is involved with the updates and what not. I would rather spend the $50 that I do with Xbox live on something else if it were not required for online play once again it is not a big deal, just saying that I could use that $50 for something else.

so you are saying that map packs should be free, that if you get a movie, you should not have to pay for it, and that a whole other game that the developer spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make should be free. man i CANT belive that i have to pay for that

I never said the Arcade games are free. Howvere the "Trial Version" of all the Arcade games is. I have never paid MS points for any trailers and I dont dl movies. So again, what hidden charges are clawing at me?
