[QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"][QUOTE="smokeydabear076"][QUOTE="Magical_Zebra"][QUOTE="outlawz247"]THey are charing you for downloading vidoes and additional game content. Even after you've paid $50, those are not free.

smokeydabear076

Um...excuse me sir? I have both the Red and Black map pack for R6V- FREE

I have the GEoW Multiplayer Pack- Free

I have the Crackdown additional character pack- FREE

I have several videos and trailers also downloaded- FREE

What charges are you referring to because its not being reflected on my credit card?

They are charging you to maintain their servers.

The .14 cent per day? Oh... I have a job. .14 cent a day is nothing to me.

I never said it was a big deal. I am explaining what you are paying for, no need to be "hostile". On the PC some people pay for the servers, not everyone. In MMOs everyone pays just like they do with Xbox Live, the price is typically higher for MMO games because of the labor that is involved with the updates and what not.

What need to explain what I pay for?

Right now as we speak there are:

99 demos,

145 game videos,

168 gamer themes,

170 gamer pictures,

263 movies,

212 tv shows,

11 music videos,

and 84 arcade games and you can try the trials first for every arcade game before you buy them.

The PSN and Wii online combined have nothing on XBL. Xbox Live have a consistent steady stream of content available for download. Every Wednesday there is a new arcade game guaranteed! That's every week!

Super Puzzle Fighter 2 HD Remix is coming out for both XBL and PSN the end of the month, but I wouldn't b surprise if the PSN version gets delayed or if its inferior than the superior XBL version. Xbox 360 and Xbox Live is the Juggernautfor every thing related to video gaming and entertainment. Jump in.

GatoFeo

excuse my ignorance because i've never used Live, but can i get all that with a silver membership?

Yes you can. I have silver and can get all that stuff.

Then what's the point of listing all that? Those are free in the first place.

 This made my day. the day of the year!!! LMAO!!!

PSN is free also, now list down all the content they provided you. Looks pretty barren to me. Plus its not a steady stream of content, things are always delayed and there areNO trials for most PSN arcade games, you have to buy them to play them. Plus Xbox Live is UNIFIED. Plus you do not need to use a credit card, you can buy MS points in the store. I know people buys online content with a credit card, but its kinda silly buying a couch for your PSHome with a credit card.

who cares?

I get to play games online for free with some games having dedicated servers.

Also that kind of vast content didn't happen over night for Xbox Live. Xbox Live has been around for a while to build itself up.

Good point... Pay $50 once, play 64player online matches whenever you want. AND the ability to have multiple usernames under each account...

[QUOTE="myke2010"]I have silver and I also got those items for free. And outlaw was right, all the movies, arcade games, and many downloads are not free. They cost microsoft points which you pay money for. Gold membership covers nothing but online play. And since you already pay an ISP for your internet connection and MP games are hosted P2P, what is it you are paying MS for exactly?Magical_Zebra

I never said the Arcade games are free. Howvere the "Trial Version" of all the Arcade games is. I have never paid MS points for any trailers and I dont dl movies. So again, what hidden charges are clawing at me?

I never mentioned anything about hidden charges. I just asked simply that since you already pay your ISP for your internet connection and all 360 MP games are hosted P2P, then what exactly are you paying MS for? The ability to use the 360 that you already purchased from them? The MP component of the game you already own? You are being charged to use your own possesions. If that's not worth getting pissed off about then I don't know what is.

Well, my point is. What exactly "Defines" a MMO. BF2 and Everquest/Warcraft both support large numbers of players. In BF2 you have to acrue a certain amount of points to "level up" and unlock new weapons. Same with Everquest but you get to use higher advanced spells.

Ok let me make you see things in different way.

Let's say someone has come to your house and drew a line at your front door. Now he hs charging you 14 cents a day for you to cross that line.

You are being charaged to enter and exit your own front door, and instead of being angry you are saying "14 cents means nothing to me and he always says hi nicely to me every time I walk out the door so I'm satisfied with paying 14 cents a day to use my own front door. Besides, I don't really have to pay, I can always use my back door..."

Is this really ok? Or shouldn't you do something about it?

well, lets put it this way. most people here are minors, most of them dont even have to worry abut bills, insurances, loans, mortgages so they dont understand these kind of thing.

yes its cheap, but why does others get it for free for almost the same kind of service?

The people that make the BF games don't classify them as MMOs, that pretty much speaks for itself.

2 key words. For almost. Any body that has sat down and used or played around with live knows that the amount of content can be overwhelming.

And def_mode I understand your analogy but someone coming in my house, they either break in or I let them in. The $50 we will stay focused on the multiplayer aspect because that is whats being paid for among other things. Live is constantly being updated, an update takes 15-35 seconds and your off. Inviting friends to play games and them inviting you is as easy as pressing 2 buttons. I have personally witnessed the horror on PSN of trying to invite someone to play a game. You have to spell that name EXACTLY.

And sometimes with all the crazy symbols and tasks it just becomes a headache. WTF is up with the PSN update, then installing the update or installing a game, is almost madness.

But it's not the same service.

  • Xbox Live is a closed network across the entire platform. They constantly check for modded boxes and ban them.
  • It has a multilevel schema that lets the community self-govern.
  • It has a functional cross-game invite system that works no matter what you or our friends are playing.
  • We have people like Major Nelso and Trixie who have connected with the community online, trade shows and game premieres.
  • There are groups like MVP, Ambassador and Community Developer programs
  • On top of that, it's chock full of content, both premium and free.

I actually got the $20 for 3 months, and I have to say that so far I'm a bit displeased with the service. Me and some friends try to play games and a few of those times we've had some issues go on. (Can't hear buddy, their game screws up, buddy can't join our game, and a few others.)

It's not bad and some of those problems could have been our own, but I have to say I see no reason why I pay for a service when the rest of the free stuff... well is free. It's just paying for online gaming against other people, and I have to say I see nothing too overwhelmingly "awesome" about it...

Cows get over it, XBL>PSN in overall service.

Lemms get over it $50 is still to much for the service.

I would still rather play my games P2P rather then dedicated because thoughs servers will not be around forever and once a game loses its servers how will you play it on the PSN?

When Sony adds all of the features of XBL to their service will you lemms still think $50 is worth it?

I have a 360 and the fact that MS charges for XBL is complete garbage. I currently have a free Silver membership. I enjoy all the XBL features the paying gold members do except for online play. Since all 360 games use p2p for multiplayer, gold members are effectively paying MS $50 a year to use thier own internet connection. Can you imagine how pissed people would be if this crap was tried by some other industry? What if Toyota started charging people to transfer gas from the tank to the engine. Consumer: But it's my gas, I already paid for it. Toyota: Yes, but you didn't pay to use it with our product. Stop defending MS. Despite the fact that I love my 360, they are nothing but money grubbing vultures and XBL gold charges prove it.myke2010

QFT.

I don't mind the fee so much, but it is complete garbage that we have to pay in the first place. Just because I favor XBOX Live over PSN (even with the $50 yearly fee) does not mean it's justified in the slightest. If Microsoft wants to charge they need to do free benefits for Gold Members or something, but they won't; nobody cared about it so much to flat out cancel their subscription, and there is no real public outcry.

Microsoft making like 400% profit on every controller they sell pisses me off more, though.

XBL's head start is totally understandable.... except the Phil Harrison... in his infinite wisdon (or that of Sony's PR team) said that PSN would have every feature XLB had and more. He never did caveat his statement that it would be over some time. So the expectation was set that it would be there day one. And it wasn't. And still isn't.

For those of you who complain about it, I have something to say to you, shut up. It is 50 bucks a year. About $4 a month. I can pay off my mounthly fee WEEKLY and it would not affect me because 1. It worth it, and 2. I find more than that on the street all the time. Not to mention the fact those 50 dollars gives you. Being able to see what my friends are doing cross game, easy ways to talk to people, and much more. Just so you know, free doesn't always mean better, and it is apparent in this case.hal02g0d

... I'm thinking Fakeboy maybe? Well whatever... Not many people (excluding cows w/o a 360), complain about it...

[QUOTE="-Tretiak"]I have no respect for people complaining about a $4.00 monthly fee. That's like buying hamburger.ff7isnumbaone

Monthly fee? I thought u had to just by the card.

You can buy the card, OR you could pay by card every 1, 3 or 12 months.

[QUOTE="myke2010"]I have a 360 and the fact that MS charges for XBL is complete garbage. Despite the fact that I love my 360, they are nothing but money grubbing vultures and XBL gold charges prove it.Apathetic-Irony

Exactly, Gold members should be getting exclusive content, trailers and demos. What's even worse was MS talking a while back about charging PC users to use Live for Windows. They honestly believed people would pay to use Achievements and the Live network on their PC. It's like they seriously had no clue that PC users already had programs that did that kind of stuff for free (sans the Achievements).

It's quick money for Microsoft. Hell, PlayStation Network, a free service (that is currently growing) has dedicated servers, 40 players, lag free. I'd like to play an extra game every year also instead of paying for P2P servers.

[QUOTE="myke2010"][QUOTE="Broman6015"][QUOTE="ReverseCycology"]

Jump in.

TriangleHard

excuse my ignorance because i've never used Live, but can i get all that with a silver membership?

Yes you can. I have silver and can get all that stuff.

Then what's the point of listing all that? Those are free in the first place.

If there wasn't an XBL fee then all this stuff wouldn't be availible to consumers. It would be a PSN..notice you can't DL movies and TV shows in HD... All you get is a Demo of a game I've played months in advance. Thats so retarded.

Its pretty easy when you think about it.

50$a year. If the console has a 4 year lifespan, there you have the 200$, minus a BR player and other features, thats it.

now lets look at multi-platform games. Same price on both consoles, but wait! TEH NOES! Once you pay the price of the game you get to fully experience the game with no additional cost on the PS3!

So wait, to experience the full game you already paid the full price for, you have to get the full paid subscription? Sorry, but cows win this thread. no offense :)

Not to mention 360 cross-platform brings fees to Peer2peer gaming to the PC. I'd rather enjoy the dedicated PC servers I'll get from PS3 cross-platform.

You have to take in consideration of how long will these servers last since they are put together by the developer. How long are they willing to burn money on maintaining these servers, especially if their game doesn't do so well. Is every Playstion game gauranteed to be online enabled, will they get downloadable content in the future? These things you don't know. Will you be able to come back and play RFOM 5 years from now. There are people still playing MechAssault from 2002 on XBL. Matchmaking, player reviews and in-game chat, TrueSkill. Its even rumored that the XDB will get built in clan support so that no matter if that game doesn't ship with it, you'll still have it.

This whole thread and every thread like it seems like a mega-reach so thats why I deem it a failure because $50 a year pails in comparison to the b/s we waste money on everyday.

Well with 50$ I can buy a new game but there are things that I don't like about live

1. I wish I can pay 4$ a month instead a total of 50$ IDK but it makes it seem cheaper to me.

2. They still charge you even when your not playing live

Its roughly .14 cent per day. I spend more on fuel for my car in a week than I do on live. Its always running in the background, easy as hell to do friend invites (PSN sucks when it comes to that), video conference, voice chat, blah blah blah. Someone will come in here and say "but teh lems got milked and are teh owned". My response, who really got OWNED by purchasing a $600 console that its competition can play damn near the majority of the same games for $200 less...

The argument of only 4 dollars a month, 14 cents a day is ridiculous. You pay 50 bucks for a year of the service on the spot. You don't choose how you pay for it. I mean if this is a legit argument, someone might as well say "I bought a PS3 for 600 bucks, let's say it last for 6 years from when I bought it, well that's only $8.33 a month." But wait, if the 360 lasts for 6 years too and I paid 400 for it, that's $5.56 a month. If I add in the 4 bucks a month for XBL for all 6 years of its service, it's 9.56 a month."

And if someone said that they'd get ripped for it all the day long because you don't pay for a PS3 or a 360 this way. And you don't pay for XBL this way either.

Anyway since you can get a brand spankin new PS3 for $500, that would be about $6.94 a month.

[QUOTE="def_mode"]being it cheap is not the whole point. Its why other can get it for free with the same service.VoodooHak

And I forgot about the ever-evolving TruSkill matchmaking system.

It just amazes me how each time I conveniently bullet point features on XBL, it gets conveniently ignored... especially by the ones asking "What are you paying for?"

Funny how your only refuting that point even though I made several others. Spending money on XBL is not a waste if your willing to do it and you feel its worth it. My point is like this: Why complain about $7, 16oz cups of coffee from Star Bucks and then complain about $2.80 cent for a gallon of gas. Why complain about PCs being overly expensive when you can build one for half of what your spending for one in retail.

But XBL you are getting nothing. Sure you get all these chatty things but it still isn't worth it when the other competitors sony and nintendo is offering online for free.

Oh and btw. retail PCs are less expensive because it is mass produced it costs more money to make your own PC. I've built my own PC before.
