[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="FFXIII360"]You get what you pay for and PC online is free and is full of hacks, cracks, smacks, LOLz, and AFKzFFXIII360

Except for punkbuster and VAC practically removes any kinds of unfair advantages players can get through hacks and cracks.

PK doesn't work that great which is why you used the word practically

PB* works extremely well, which is why its used in so many games.

I guess it works while you're sleeping but while your awake it isn't worth jack

link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZjKScddEPU

lol, do you have any idea how many of those things are viruses?

on clan regulated servers, hacking is rare, admins check PB screen shots all the time, which are hard to get around...and not only that, but even if this was real....both PB and VAC get updated frequently...and old hacks are found fast, and the punishment is fierce...a complete Ban from every PB and Vac game...and not an IP ban, but a GUID ban.

Were debating Steam vs Live.

Free vs not free... hmmm ok.

...This again?I can do everything with Live as I can with Steam but play games online which Steam has absolutely no involvement in.

STEAM is a free add on!!!!!! But microsoft forced Xbox live crap down your throat and you seem to like it... yeah keep paying for service that are free on PC.

:) I love Live mostly thanks to my friends that also have it. I'll say it again...I can do everything on Live that I can on Steam, and Live has much more to offer.

Live doesnt have mod support, Live doesnt have dedicaded server support, Live doesnt let you download full games like Steam does, live charges you for every possible piece of DLC...steam doesnt.

You have the mod one (even though Epic says they are bringing mods for UT3...that's such a small number that I wont even use it though). Valve only provides servers for their games...not for every game on Steam. Steam has as much to do with servers as it does with the ability to play your Steam games online. If you have heard MS is offering full downloadable Xbox games now. I can get Halo 3 maps,Gears of War maps,a plenty of picture packs and themes, some music videos...somtimes a movie free on Live. Ofcourse MS charges for majority of the content but there is some free stuff. It's not like those downloadable games and mini games on Steam are free.

Again, what the **** are you saying? If you're gonna spout out **** give a reason.

PC online sucks? It sucks because I can play on dedicated servers with excellent pings and 24/7 hosting? Sucks because I can play with mods? Sucks because it's free?

Yeah, that's horrible. Epic fail.

Call me nuts, but how to they prevent GUID spoofing? Especially on a machine that has a rootkit-type exploit that can intercept low-level network traffic?

Xbox live >>> Pc online...

This was the title of the thread.

Seems you like to only limit yourself to one free PC program... I wonder why.

I'll just point out, can you download orange box from xbox live?

Bebi_vegeta
Back-tracking now? Then you didn't get the whole story?

[QUOTE="killab2oo5"][QUOTE="Bebi_vegeta"][QUOTE="killab2oo5"]

Online PC gaming>Live
Live>Steam - Live offers way more content than Steam does. As far as my knowledge there is no 1 unified gaming prog as robust as Live.

Bebi_vegeta

Steam is free...

o.O You get everything Steam offers on Live Silver for free.

Silver let's you play online whenever you like?

I said that online PC gaming>Live ofcourse. But then I said Live> Steam...you said Steam was free and it went from there. I'll ask you...can you download Invader Zim from Steam?

But that means shelling out your own cash for the server itself and the bandwidth costs (and on the commercial level, bandwidth costs are much higher and, unlike most home plans, are metered instead of flat). Thus it's no longer free.

i just want to remind people that xbox live is merely 4 dollars a month...yes, just 4 measly dollars a month, or 1 single dollar a week, for a much more universal feature that every single person on xbox can use without having to download or worry wether its compatible or not.

If you're the normal casual player that doesn't require his own server for scrims, you'll be fine just looking for servers.

And there are thousands.

Steam is good just not as good as Xbox Live.

Agreed, I heavily use both and Xbox Live kills Steam

Online gaming on PC is still technically better with dedicated servers but I like the everyone has a mic thing on Xbox live and the ease.

you have to pay for everything on live, maps, gamerpicks, everything...DLC is virtually always free on Steam...in fact, I cant think of a single time their has been paid DLC on the Steam network.

Not only PC magazines, but most of the general game review sites out there. PC games have been getting great ratings so far. Besides, most PC gamers (not all) get consoles because they like to experience games that they simply don't have on the PC. The PC has the most highly rated titles, but doesn't mean you shouldnt have a console.

That's home-level internet. They say unlimited, but if you really push it, they start trying to figure out what's wrong. That's why Time Warner Cable's started metering trials and is part of the reason behind the whole Comcast fiasco.

Commercial internet access (which have true high-speed pipes so as to handle all those simultaneous connections), which is what servers usually have to us, are almost always metered, as they frequently have service guarantees (like near-zero-downtime) attached.

Better Buddies list system,

have you ever heard of xfire, vent, or just the steam messaging?

Achievements,

even some steam games have achievements but achievements are meaning less in a pc environment because it's an open environment.

HD movies on big HD tv,

you can watch hd movies on a pc, and you can connect a pc to an hdtv

Compare all stats againts others,

you can do that on pc depending on the game

Inside box, so you can really feel part of a community,

i really call ******** here. i haven't used that, or seen anyone use this. it's completely useless. plus, pc wouldn't have that again because it's an open platform.

Live Arcade,

emulators, addictinggames.com, various other sites and methods to play almost every game ever created is only possible on pc. dwarfs live arcade completely

Super fast patch updates,

even faster on pc, unless you're talking about WOW.

Ok sure you can do most of this on PC. But it's just not as nicely integrated on PC. And i know most hermits will say this is fail. But really it's not. Live is the best gaming online network on the planet.

that's because PC is an OPEN platform. it's not all regulated and consolidated into one service like live is.

The only thing PC online does better is mods for games.

on the contrary, i struggle to find a single thing that live does better than pc online, besides charging people money for no reason.

But that means shelling out your own cash for the server itself and the bandwidth costs (and on the commercial level, bandwidth costs are much higher and, unlike most home plans, are metered instead of flat). Thus it's no longer free.HuusAsking

Commercial bandwidth have are unlimited download and upload, wich in my case would be cheaper then home plan.

Show me, then. Most charge by the gigabyte.

http://affaires.videotron.com/affaires/en/internet/comparaison.jsp

But I guess 10MBs would be cuting it close.

It's for small businesses. I have no clue on the price for bigger ones. This compagnie has nothing to do with comcast. They don't kill your bandwidth when you dl torrents.

True, but on WoW you are given dedicated servers and massive amounts of content each patch.MMORPGs also require a subscription fee on XBL.

Better Buddies list system,

Achievements,

HD movies on big HD tv,

Compare all stats againts others,

Inside box, so you can really feel part of a community,

Live Arcade,

Super fast patch updates,

Ok sure you can do most of this on PC. But it's just not as nicely integrated on PC. And i know most hermits will say this is fail. But really it's not. Live is the best gaming online network on the planet.

The only thing PC online does better is mods for games.

Dur_Rocky

No.

Absolutely Not.

Dont compare XBL to PC Online.

[QUOTE="thegoldenpoo"]its called STEAM, look it up. Dur_Rocky

Steam is good just not as good as Xbox Live.

how do you buy your games on xbl? steam has had the comunity feature where you can create group and have group chat for ages and xbl thought it was great so copied it, steam has all the stats for your games, auto updates, old and new games friends list etc, xbl hasn't caught up til the day games can be bought digitilly online and have no drm, steam games don't have this hardware based activation junk, you can run them on multiple computers at once and will work on any computer.

Online PC gaming>Live
Live>Steam - Live offers way more content than Steam does. As far as my knowledge there is no 1 unified gaming prog as robust as Live.

killab2oo5

yeah there are only 600+ games on steam and trailers, demos etc how do you buy call of duty 4 or grid on xbl?

The funny thing here is that it's only ''valid'' to compare XBL to Steam on this thread cus of the unified bs, and it still beats XBL. Count Xfire and all the other multiple services and it should be more than clear which is better.

Steam is free...

o.O You get everything Steam offers on Live Silver for free.

Minus the whole "playing games" aspect. >_>

Eh,but you playing online isn't thanks to Steam. It's thanks to the developers for providing servers and online compatibility.

well 2 of the most popular online games are thanks to steam's owner

XBL isn't built on dedicted servers, so one way or another it's inferior and there is plenty of lag. And yes maps are petit compared to PC online games and yes the max players limits are also petite. You name PDZ, what a joke, not only that's one of the very few 360 games with limit above 16 players, but even 32 is at most medium size by PC standarts
