All I remember was PSN was down for a whole day back in January. XBL had a sign in issues for a few hours. PSN is consistently down, and for longer.

It doesn't matter, Xbox Live can go down 5 times or even 10 times and the combined time still wouldn't be as much as PSN's one time. Microsoft can bring their network back up relatively quickly where Sony takes an entire day. Also when PSN goes down it usually affects EVERYONE, where the number of people affected by XBL often aren't many.

Microsoft’s troubles have occurred just recently with most of the outages happening this month. Many people have had trouble signing into their Xbox Live accounts, although Microsoft has managed to bring it back up fairly quickly.

The PSN has been down only three times compared to the four times Xbox Live has been down in 2016. The last outage from PSN was pretty bad as the service was inaccessible for several hours. Thankfully, Sony managed to bring the service back up.

I've only used PSN 3 times this year and I've never had it be down for a day, maybe I'm just lucky.

I jumped on XB1 to play some NHL last night and Live was down. I was not impressed. I just shook my head and said "fuckin' consoles" and then turned it off. I then went and played some BF4 and R6: Siege on PC. :)

Same here. Lems are full of shit. PSN has been up for me the entire year.

Last time it went down for me was for a few hours during the holidays when they were getting ddos'd.

Consoles are plug and play, with no hassle.

And this is why I tend to game more on PC nowadays so I won't have to worry about XBL/PSN networks going down :P

That's some good system wars fodder there and I want to get involved on the PS4 side but the truth is I don't even have online for my PS4. I don't believe in paying for that. It would take one hell of a game for me to cross that line.

I'm not going to shoot the messenger but the source you provided are from "attack of the fanboy" and this so-called gaming analyst is just a regular dude on Twitter. There were no actual verified recording of any incidences for both services. You just have to take his word for it. And even if you take his word for it, one service went down 3 times while the other 4 times, wow. That isn't significant and does not represent accurately how these services really compares to each other. What was provided is simply clickbait. Everyone knows that PSN is good enough just not better than Xbox Live.

Xbox One titles play fine offline (not that I ever had problems connecting), and Sony fanboys steered people to the PS4 in a worry games won't play if there's a disruption in online connectivity, but that's exactly what the PS4 does. Oh the irony.

Yeah I've decided PS+ and Xbox Live are not worth it anymore. They're both meh services, and the "free" (rental) games they offer are pretty meh. I would rather spend that money on a game(s).

If there's a game they're offering that I really want, or a game I really want that I want to use online, maybe I'll get a month- 3 months of the service, but no more years worth.

According to those articles, Xbox Live went down way more than I thought. Seems a lot more noise is made when PSN goes down, probably because of the duration of some outages. But Xbox Live is not immune either.

XBL has small hiccups every now & then which probably add up to more... but PSN's seem to be more serious and last longer.

@Shewgenja: I'm pretty confident market forces moved them in that direction and not the threat of a hacker army. Besides 24 hour DRM verification was never part of their original plans, it was an ill thought solution to keeping the system discless and to allow for used games. It would have never worked though even if MS was hellbent on it, as for starters their trading system would have required a convoluted retailer participation program to buy and swap licenses associated with discs and the accounts they were tied too, which would have been a logistical nightmare for everyone.
