I can't believe I payed Microsoft to listen to this.
I was playing COD4 on Xbox live the other day and this one guy said he hoped we all got cancer and died. Ok fair enough I guess. But then this English guy said 9/11 was funny and he laughed when the people jumped from the towers. He then started chanting "where's your towers gone" , I felt kinda sick listening to this. There was also a lot of racist comments being chucked about between him and a few Americans, and one said he done time in prison for stabbing a black person. this was all in one game. It all happened within the space of 3 minutes. I get this in almost every game I go into on Xbox live if people are using microphones.
The people who play PC/PS3/Wii online have far more respect for each other than 360 owners. I have no idea why it's just true. And I think it's disgusting that decent people sitting at home with their kids have to listen to this filth every time they go on Xbox liveto play a game.

This isn't just Xbox Live, my friend, it's the internet in general. Only reason why it's not like that in this forum is because it's a more controlled environment, and you have active mods. On Xbox Live, PSN, etc. it's open game.
Seriously, look at any community using the internet that is lenient when it comes to behaving.
While the XBL community isn't perfect, it certainly is not as bad as half the cows here like to make out. I've never actually been in a game with racists or anything that bad. Just annoying kids in Halo. BTW if this is a tru story, I hope you filed a complaint.
i think the community is the funniest when you just play along. for example, people normally throw around racial slurs then i tell them im black, (which i am) and then hilarity ensues.

One of the funniest time ever online was these 2 inbred rednecks they were friends, but dude on my friendlist on xbox live he's from kentucky but he doesnt act like a staight up hillbilly/inbred hills have eyes dudes lol, but the dude on my friendlist was arguing with em/making fun of them funny as hell. You play online, you're going to meet many questionable people there. No matter if it's online via PC, Xbox, or PS3. You just hear it more on 360 compared to PS3 cause there are more people with mics who on 360 than on PS3. Still,yoshi_64

I've played it on both the PS3 and the 360 and it's been about the same with the live gamers being a little better simply because they communicated more.When you are doing the challenges communication is important.

So by chosing family...you should'nt come across idiots tht like to talk crap? Although I'm not 100% sure...I've had it on underground for 5 years and never payed attention to what it all means.
Yeah, you do get that. But I'm on Live extremely frequently, and it is not that often. And it's no worse than the PS3 community, only reason you don't get it as much there is the lack of mics in the community. If you want an excellent community play on the PC, since you are more likely not to get immature children who don't care what they say. Although I have gotten immaturity via the PC community so, it's everywhere.
It has less to do with Xbox Live and more to do with the popularity of any given game. Everyone owns and plays Call of Duty 4, so you're going to get a lot of idiots. Same with Halo 3, Gears 2, etc. Playing less popular games online reveals much friendlier communities, although in some cases (like Virtua Fighter 5) they get all grumpy when newcomers come. PS3 games are no different, it's just that fewer people have headsets so you don't have to listen to them talk about their genitals or how much they just smoked/drank.

I have mine set to family.......but I don't think it will make a difference if it's such a concern for some people....

I make it a habit to mute someone as soon as a racist comment or annoying noise comes out of their mouth. I must have half the population of the cod4 community muted by now.
