XBL is completely optional and not a necessity to play games on the 360. Anyone who believes otherwise is just plain ignorant. I thought the little cows would be done bashing XBL Gold after Qore starting charging for demos. Time to move on children.JimJackJose
you don't get to play the online part of the game. so that 60 bucks only cover a portion of the game.

[QUOTE="MightyMuna"]everybody that did not choose "it should be free" are out of their mind. how can you not want something to be free. please explain.yoyo462001
Why do people need to explain anything to you? i dont think alot of things are worth the money e.g. price of the PS3 but yet again you would argue differently. people need to stop imposing their opinions on others.

what I mean is that, if MS said they want to make XBL free, would you object to it? I know some idiots that dont want XBL free. and said if it ever becomes free, they would stop playing their 360. that the service is so good, that MS should keep on charging, hell some people want the price increased.

Making XBL free of charge would remove some of its good parts; specifically it would mean that anyone who is banned from the service could just re-up with a new account, or people could make endless alt accounts, devaluing the concept of having a single, unified identity for every player. As bad as XBL is with immature players now, making it free would make it much worse. But the main reason I think it should stay a paid service is because a regular income stream means we get more features that we might not get if the service were free and relied on advertising. For example, we definitely wouldn't get as many community events, play & wins, Inside Xbox, etc. if the subscription fee didn't exist.

It's simple: when you have a guaranteed revenue stream thanks to a subscription, you can budget for and plan things with a greater degree of certainty, which means you are more likely to take the financial risk of developing a new feature. Whereas if you rely on advertising or other fluctuating revenues, you will take less risks, because if you take a risk and it backfires, your revenue stream could go away at any moment. This is simple business. When you have a stable, recurring revenue stream, you can do things like Play & Wins, or Xbox All-Nighters, or GamerChix, or Inside Xbox, or the Community Developer network, or even simple things like Major Nelson's podcast. None of those things gain any revenue for Microsoft; they are all supported by the subscription fee.

Want more examples? Compare the shows on premium networks like HBO to the shows on basic cable networks like TNT. HBO shows are edgier, niche shows (Flight of the Conchords, Summer Heights High, Taxicab Confessions, etc.) because they don't have to worry about keeping advertisers happy; they get their revenue no matter what. Whereas the shows on TNT are very "safe" shows designed to attract advertisers, because if the advertisers go away, they're toast. Simple business.

Laugh all you want, but that's reality, and your scoffing just makes you look immature.

so far all that revenue has not gotten us dedicated servers. instead we got a chat room, some communication tool, a shopping entice dashboard and some other online multiplayer unrelated features that i could care less about.

Well comparing Games For windows to Xbox live, Games for windows is just amazing and awesome(I wish more games supported it), and it's free... If GFW can be free why can't xbox live be? Because we are still paying, and why would MS refuse the cash? GFW wasn't free, until everybody stopped paying and complained! that's when MS made it free...

Not worth £40 at all! PSN is free and it's great! Another reason why PS3 is better.

Of course not. Those that enjoy it will stay. Those that aren't satisfied shouldn't. If you have a complaint, post it in the Xbox.com forums, in the Wish List/Suggestions thread. Write to Major Nelson. There's more probability you'll get more accomplished there.

You're definitely not going to get anything done here.

Bottom line, if you don't think the service is worth the asking price, then don't pay for it. It's not rocket science. All we're hearing from you is "WAAAHHHH!!!!"

It's on the console box.

It's on the back of every case of every multiplayer enabled game.

You didn't know that XBL had a fee when you got the console? Seriously?

You pay a fee and you want something in return for the fee.

Ergo: you care about that fee

You've got nothing left but that bit of circular logic. Can't help you there except to provide the only solution: don't pay. If you want to just whine for a few more pages without taking some kind of action, then I'm afraid no one can really help you. Cry and moan to your heart's content.

how can somebody be so irrationally sympathetic towards MS? it's just amazing. look the point is that when you buy a game for 60$ you expect to access all the content in it! but does xbox allow that? no! because in order to access my multiplayer features I have to pay 50$ per year! that's the basic problem here. MS is forcing us to pay for something we already payed for. what's insulting is that the same live service was given to PC for free. they try to charge for it at first but the PC fans didn't take it. so they made it free. do you really want to be the only type of gamer to be ripped off by having to pay for online multiplayer?

really be honest its just not worth 50$.

I mean if they made dedicaed servers for every game and gave a brilliant lag free service

it still wouldn't justify the price. 360 is an awesome console but xbox live is poor.

and no I'm no PS3,PC or Wii fanboy. you don't need a bias view to notice that xbox live isn't fair.

but thats me, what do you think?

or and the way you take action is by exercising your consumer power. next time your xbox live account

expires don't buy more. this is the best way to send the message to MS.

check these links out.

Great_Ragnarok

why? is it because Xbox360 players are the only gamers required to pay 50$ a year just to access the content they already payed for? ripoff much?

Hey any way you want to look at it you are getting ripped off. I can sit here and say paying $60 for games is a rip off. The bottom line is that it is not a rip off if the person paying for the $50 fee feels that it is worth it to them. Same goes for anyone who paid the rediculous $600 price tag for the PS3 when it first came out, ya they got ripped off too, but to them they were buying something they thought in their mind was worth that money, so in hindsight they did not get ripped off. Its all in a matter of opinion whether someones gets ripped off or not.

how can somebody be so irrationally sympathetic towards MS? it's just amazing. look the point is that when you buy a game for 60$ you expect to access all the content in it! but does xbox allow that? no! because in order to access my multiplayer features I have to pay 50$ per year! that's the basic problem here. MS is forcing us to pay for something we already payed for. what's insulting is that the same live service was given to PC for free. they try to charge for it at first but the PC fans didn't take it. so they made it free. do you really want to be the only type of gamer to be ripped off by having to pay for online multiplayer?Great_Ragnarok
Whine whine moan moan. If you pay for World of Warcraft, you don't automatically get access to all the content. You still have to pay a subscription. If you pay for Windows Vista Home Basic, you don't get access to all the content of the disc; you need to pay more for Ultimate. That's just reality. What matters is value, and Xbox Live delivers a great value. If you don't like it, don't pay for it, sell your Xbox 360 and buy a PS3, then play PSN for free.

lmao not even close. quit repeating MS statements and be honest. live is not as perfect as some of you think.

Xbox Live is not perfect. But it's a heck of a lot better than any other comparable service.

[QUOTE="dthach614"] then how will i play my xbox 360 game online?Great_Ragnarok

Put your money where your mouth is. If PSN is so great or Steam is so great, don't play on your 360 anymore. Otherwise, all you're doing is whining.

how can somebody be so irrationally sympathetic towards MS? it's just amazing. look the point is that when you buy a game for 60$ you expect to access all the content in it! but does xbox allow that? no! because in order to access my multiplayer features I have to pay 50$ per year! that's the basic problem here. What's truly amazing is that you spend so much energy complaining, but have you done anything about it?

They offer a service and charge for it. I like the features and have no problem paying for it.

I think your expectations are out of whack. Right there on the case of every online enabled game, it says it requires Xbox Live which has a fee. If you expected it to be free, then the disappointment is all on you. At that point, you have a choice. Buy the game or not.

Did you not understand that XBL had a fee before you signed up for it?

Change happened on GFW Live because no one was subscribing. People stopped crying on the internet and exercised their fundamental right to not pay for. It's not astrophysics. It's a simple choice.

If you feel ripped off, DO something. Exercise your fundamental right and don't pay for it. That's the only way MS will hear your complaint. If you paid, then the fault is all with you.

There's no sympathy involved. Just a simple choice. I like the service, so I don't feel ripped off at all.

Reasons have been listed in previous pages. You just conveniently ignore or dismiss the points made. If you don't agree with those points, then.... AGAIN.... you have a choice to make:

  1. Pay for it
  2. Don't pay for it

Either way, for chrissakes, stop boo-hoo-hoo-ing about it. Just man up, take a stand, and move on.

I've already mentioned how XBL is better than everything else. More online games with better online features. Nothing else compares.

Well I have a ps3 but at my friends house he is annoyed because he buys a game and then doesn't have the money for live. He says its a rip-off and he wishes it was free but I guess I kinda agree with him cause its really convenient that ps3 is free, just not as big of online community. I guess your really paying for the maintenance of such a big server and if the 360's online wasn't so popular it might be free... : I

do you not demand anything at all? I mean customers should have some integrity/confidence instead of just accepting any deal at base value. can you seriously not justify xbox live? there are exclusives in xbox 360. you can't buy them anywhere else. my criticism is that MS has implemented a very greedy business model that no other platform has implemented. they've taken something that was free and start charging for it! you must love being ripped off this way...

man it seems all you want to do is be sympathetic to MS... I'm bashing live because I'm required to pay 50$ online to access something I already paid for! its not very difficult to understand. because no other platform implements such a dirty tactic.
