Oh wow, that's horrible

what kind of cables are you using? As in what guage? Adding another component to the chain will always cause some degree of degradation. Your picture would be better if you ran the cable box straight to the TV (but then you'd not be using your receiver). You can limit that amount by using heavy gauge quality cables.

Not sure about the guage, but they are ****** cables which I bought last December at the same time as the Pioneer. The one from the xbox to avr is the MS cable.

dolby digital output via optical is coming probably early 2014 ,i think it's because rushed software and license issue with dolby

that's fine, im using my a50's to watch tv, play games right now and its fine. will be nice when the dolby comes out.

You're going to use optical or it's nice for those who need? I would think most of us use HDMI.

I had a similar issue with my laptop not being able to pwer my new 27" monitor correctly. The image looked poor compared to that of my previous 24" monitor. So I requested an RMA on the monitor and got a new one. When the new monitor had similar issues, I knew the problem was with the laptop or the cable. I ordered a 24 gauge HDMI cable from monoprice. It was only about 6.00 vs their regular 3.00 cable. The picture was perfect. You might go to best buy or some other purchase heavy guage cables to test (and keep the receipt so you return them when you buy them from monoprice). I normally don't condone this, but the prices companies charge for HDMI cables is robbery.

I should be getting my Xbone by friday, so I'll see if I also have the issue. I have the same setup as you, so it will be interesting to see if i have the same issue. I only have the basic 28 gauge cables right now, but I'm ready to buy at least 3 of them (xbone-->receiver-->tv). The cable box running to the xbone will be 24gauge, as will the other components running to the receiver (X360, PS3). My backup plan is to provide a heavy gauge cable to the cablebox-->xbone connection as well.

M XBOX ONE Hooked up to my Rogers (Toronto) Digital box with no noticeable video degradation on my 60" Sharp Quattron 3D HDTV, so check if there is any Firmware updates for your HDTV as a few people had problems with PS4 and XBOX ONE looking weird on their HDTV, and the Firmware Update fixed it.

I also am not having any problem with the Kinect, I'm getting a 90-95% success rate with Kinect (not xbox one guide not available in Canada.) For the XBOX ONE Guide make sure to favourite your channels you use and any, Channels with obscure names that you may use from time to time as this process will prioritize the XBOX ONE to check the favourites for a channel match to your voice command before checking the entire Xbox one guide channel list for a match, this gives you a much higher success rate with the Kinect and the XBOX ONE Guide.

Make sure your voice commands you use are the exact phrases as the XBOX ONE won't understand "XBOX SHUT OFF" or "XBOX OFF" because you need to use exact Kinect phrases, in this case the correct phrase is "XBOX TURN OFF".

For anyone calling me a fanboy, I own a Gaming PC - XBOX ONE - PS4- Wii U.

Console peasants are used to looking at low-res, fuzzy and washed out images, I doubt this will make a difference.

Try re-doing your TV settings from your TV. My XB1 reset all my picture settings when it detected my Quattron. Once I reset them, the picture quality looked the same as before.

No. Passthrough of digital information should not disrupt the flow of data through the device.

The X1 has great games like Quantum Break, Killer Instinct and Titanfall. If you are looking for an all in one media HUB get a PC.

I can confirm that it does not degrade tv picture. I've tested both with and without going into the Xbox.

Thanks for the post. I've been seriously on the fence about jumping into next gen. From weak launch titles to spotty features that work half the time and other features that will be available "down the road" I think I will hold off for another 6 months-1 year before making my decision. I have a wife and 2 small kids. XB1 appealed to me as I used to be a hardcore gamer, but have had less and less time for gaming having a family and everything. XB1 seemed like a good fit, while it wasn't as powerful as the PS4 in terms of raw hardware, it had other advertised features that went above and beyond gaming and fit my family's usage of the TV better.

Seeing your post, I'm now convinced that I should wait and see what happens. I know all the fanboys will say to jump to a PS4, but with the titles that are out on both consoles, I really have no reason to jump into next gen at all. There are still plenty of great games currently out on the 360 and PS3. Both are unfinished products IMO. PS4 and XB1 promised many things, but as launch dates grew closer, they both had lists of things that will be available in the future. With a small library of games, lacking features, I'm more than happy to wait and this post has convinced me that is the right thing to do.

It would have been nice, but would have left them with less flexibility.

I got my Xbone hooked up and did not have the problem that some are experiencing. The TV picture from the TV through the Xbone looks just as good as without the extra connection. I'm using Verizon Fios and have the Motorola box. I don't want to belittle anyone having problems, but this issue doesn't seem to be very widespread. If it were, we would have heard about it from reviewers.

Wow, that's really LAME. So now we know that: Tv, Tv, Tv, Sports, Sports, Sports, Tv, Tv, Tv, Dog of Duty is JUST for 720p on the XBone. 8-\

Hey guys, I had the same problem today: my newly purchased Xbox completely changed Live TV picture quality. I found that the problem is that Xbox managed to change output format of my FIOS set-top box video settings to 720p. On the remote push "Menu-Settings-Video Settings-Video Format" and make sure that you have 1080i selected there. Also make sure that your other settings are the same as before (my Graphics Settings were also affected). I can confirm that this fixes the picture quality issue on Verizon FIOS Motorola set-top box, and video is the same as before pass-thru tricks. I hope this helps to someone...

Why are you always putting down someones headphones? A50s do not suck. They may not be top of the line but they far from suck. You know what sucks, Skullcandy headphones suck. Keep your opinions to yourself or at least respect others choice to own what they want.

I know we argue opinions but A50s are far from junk. Like I said they may not be top of the line but junk they're not. BTW I don't own A50s so I'm not going to run around saying something is junk every time someone mentions them. You're acting like cows

all I can say is do your own research. imo being a computer.coding engineer the ps4 is an upgrade from the sloppy ps3 that was "way more powerful" .. if you only look at hardware specs yes it is ever so slightly more powerful due to the ddr4 but keep in mind cloud computing is the future and sony has virtually 0 to use where microsoft has invested millions into their billions of servers. this alone is a deal breaker. is the tiny barely noticeable hardware difference woth losing the best online service on the market with dedicated servers for every multiplayer game. no ps4 is years behind as far as software. and the ram boost .. the only good ram is ram being used. the ps4 doesnt have the software to even push the boundaries of its system and is still relying on the graphics thing to make sales. I own both I like certain exclusives on ps4 but I play online, and the xbox is like the fios internet vs psn being 56k lol btw my first ps4 didnt even work straight from the box ! and my second one gets hot as hell around 58c after a few hours of netflix. my xbox running cod for 5 hrs with tv in the background and between games 42c which is cool. x1 is quiet too and kinect works almost flawlessly unless im blaring my surround. the original post should read more before trying to bash on a GAME console for its "degraded" tv passthrough which I run my pc through with twctv and im still getting great resolution. like someone else said its a preference thing do your own research but I would only buy the ps4 if you play single player games and are only worried about specs. the ps4 is done what u get now is what u will have for another x years. the x1 has endless capabilities to be added to keep it an up to date system! think about it and happy gaming to all !

@ronvalencia: gddr5 . essentially ddr3 .. with a lower power consumption rate and almost unnoticeable read/write speed differences for most applicable uses. I apologize if it were ddr4 it would have been 100x better but this tech isnt in any applicable devices tile first/secind quarter of the 2014 fiscal year. makes mg point even better gddr5 is a fancy term for (in a month) another outdated technology line both consoles should have held off for ddr4 .. but my point being there is no significant advantage at any of the mghz speed levels of the gddr5 vs. ddr3 especially with the x1 running a sub chip to handle menial tasks. granted the ps4 also uses ddr3 but a small sub chip that kicks in during intense use. all different methods of giving you the same output in 99% of situations. thank you for correcting me I was having a conversation about ddr4 at the time lol

I had the same problem when I had the satellite box running thu the xbox, thru the amp, to the tv all with hdmi cables (All Chord company super shield 1.4 before anyone blames the innocent cables lol) I double checked everything first before blaming the xbox. e.g. The satellite box thru the amp to tv was fine, the xbox thru the amp to the tv was fine. Ps3, ps4 ect. Through the amp, all perfect video output. But as soon as I ran the satellite box-xbox xbox-amp amp-tv the satellite picture was.....well bad to say the least. The game, home screen ect. picture quality was perfect it was just the satellite video.

I ended up running the xbox hdmi output directly to the tv and outputing the xbox's audio through optical to the amp. making sure to adjust the xbox's audio setting to hdmi audio off, optical audio on and dts. Problem solved. Drastic increase in picture quality.

When ive spoken to people they only seem to have video quality issues with this kind of setup. To many interconnects maybe? I dunno.

Hope this might help someone

Have no idea what you people are doing (short of making shit up). Xbox One, Dish Hopper and 60 inch Samsung tv (same model as original post). No picture degradation.

I'll have to read back and see how you're set up.

Mine is Dish Hopper into Xbox One, Xbox One into Denon 7.1 AV Receiver, into Samsung TV.. And no issues with TV quality that I've spotted. Then again, I also can't reproduce the whole crushed blacks issue that I keep seeing spammed all over the message boards or most of the other complaints about the XB1. My Kinect experience (voice) is probably up around 90-95%, but I would never use it as a 100% replacement for remote or controller (it's not meant to be).

I just find it funny. The Xbox One has plenty of real issues (in spite of all the work on the One Guide, I just end up using the Dish DVR from within XB1 for example).. And yet the self-proclaimed cows seem hell bent on making up issues that aren't there.

Not really an issue for me since I have Time Warner Cable and their cable boxes are only capable of 720p or 1080i and X1 doesn't do 1080i and 720p is better than 1080i sooooo whatever. Most cable broadcast channels don't do 1080p so 720p will do you just fine. Sounds like cows just go moo to me

I guess expecting the video quality of my satellite box, running through the xbox and the avr, to be of an equal quality to when the video is outputted directly to the tv, is a bit stupid. It should not however be as bad as it was

lol you can always tell when some poor nub finally saved up enough allowance and just bought their first big screen tv. Because they want you to know about it and will point it out 10 time per post.

It degrades the quality on high end tvs, thats why i notice it more because i have a very high end tv, higher quality than most people. Here is the model number because its important you understand how much lunch money i saved up for my high end tv.

We get it dude, you bought your first tv.

@anybodykilla15: the ironic thing is that in that picture they had to pixelate the xbox screenshot in order for people to see the difference, its basically self ownage.
