[QUOTE="Shensolidus"][QUOTE="Thunder7151"] Again, graphics will be equal on both consoles. Just wait and see. It's all about the games!!ronvalencia
*sigh* Okay... all the specs that MS has talked about up to this point are 100% what is there in the box. There is no more or less there than what they have presented. Their breakdown of the hardware at Hotchips is EXACTLY what you can expect from the console, THERE IS NO OTHER COMPONENT. Obviously they won't come out and say that because there are a contingent of fans that NEED to have a shred of hope that there is more, but trust me, there is NOTHING ELSE in there.
There is this very silly idea that is permeating amongst fans that there is somehow more 'depth' in its configuration, that the PS4 does not have extensive customizations (which we know that it does have a significant amount, more so than the X1 in some departments) to allow this level of untapped potential when the truth is that both consoles have this well, and they are both very deep, PS4 being just a deeper well of potential than the X1.
I think the biggest problem here is that I see people saying that "Microsoft would never design such a weak console, there has to be more!", when it is very clear that they have designed this console from the very beginning to be way more about games. The possibility that individual talent in the company could yield a greater product doesn't enter anyone's mind. They underestimate Mark Cerny. As someone who has met the man, I can assure you he is on a level of intellect and understanding within this industry on par with Carmack, Newell, or Greenburg.
IF Sony has selected AMD Xenos for their PS3 with a combined 5 SPEs + RSX TDP (i.e. ~170 watt GPU with unified shaders), it would be a very nice box for late 2006. Possibly, the Cell was always a big gamble that hinged on some abstract concept of having multiple Cell enabled devices working in conjunction on processing tasks. The problem was that the idea and the tech to make it a reality just didn't exist at the time, nor would it be of any meaningful use in the form they were pitching in 2005/2006.
A 5 SPE core processor with 1 reserved for redundancy would've been okay, but there are a ton of advancements in the field of multithreading that coders were forced to learn that have them much better prepared for this generation had they not done so on the PS3 already. Personally, I think its just a matter of growing pains in general, and I prefer that we 'ripped the bandaid' off earlier, as now it'll be much easier to get code threaded around those 6 cores much faster.
