Currently Xbox Smartglass requires a true wi-fi network in order to function and both devices (smartphone and xbox 360) must be connected to the same wireless network through a router. With Wi-Fi direct, you wouldn't have the router bottleneck and should see increased response between time you xbox smartglass device and your Xbox One console.

Although it already appears that your Kinect will allow you to turn on your TV and other devices simply by turning on your Xbox One first, Wi-Fi direct could also interact with any device that allows for wake-on-lan by simply sending a Wi-Fi direct signal to the device. This would eliminate the need for IR connections/dongles, etc for your Xbox One to control other devices in your living-room.

As mentioned above, it would greatly increase the bandwidth/speed of additional peripherals such as wireless headsets, allowing for much higher quality audio through a headset. One thing that I personally found irritating using my Xbox 360 wireless headset was the lack of range. As soon as I left the room the audio quality will drop, eventually stopping altogether. Now imagine being able to walk around your entire house and still be chatting with your wireless headset through your Xbox One (great use for Skype).

I find that Xbox One's inclusion of Wi-Fi Direct is yet another future-proof technology for the console.

I agree with you. Overall, the X1 is "inferior" to the PS4 on paper, but there will be little practical difference between the two. Besides, why would either side want to brag about such low end technology?

They released two AAA titles this year and one of the highest rated games this gen (LBP1). You must be stupid if you were to laugh at them. Few Developers have managed to do that this gen. Media Molecule is probably the best new dev this generation.
