@subspecies: I don't think you get it. VR is not posing significant health risks, yet health nonetheless is a big factor that turns people away the same way 3D does.
People at the end of the day want comfortable entertainment, not entertainment that agitates because of the technology they chose to run it on.
And what I'm saying is once you adapt it's just like flatscreen in terms of ill effects. In other words, there are none.
@subspecies: And you have every right to prefer VR gaming. I acknowledged your passion for it and I respect that, but I'm giving you a clear cut reason why VR is always going to be a struggle because health is a factor and that's enough for many people to just prefer a flat screen.

Fair enough. If it only is for those that have the patience to get past initial comfort issues, so be it. No one is forcing you to like VR, of course.
And I don't "prefer" VR gaming. I love flatscreen, too. I love both.

And you gotta reverse the looking glass for that one.
The consistent deflectors I see a VR enthusiast always go for when addressing someone who passed it off, is: "so how long did you play it?" or "you're not playing the right titles." It doesn't matter how long someone plays it for, all it really takes is a few minutes for one to decide if it's comfortable technology for them to use as their platform for entertainment.
Like I said, VR fits right there snug with the issues of 3D movies. Time and time again industries will try to bring them back to relevance and yet they always end up faltering.
@subspecies: It's all discussion here for the sake of internet forum discussion. I'll address the topics I see here as they come.
I don't otherwise go through life touting VR skepticism or try to discourage anyone.
People like you say have the right to indulge in their preferences as they please. I'm simply giving you a clear-cut practical reason why VR has struggled, still struggles, and will struggle. I'm just giving you the reality of the situation.
Doesn't mean it's not cool shit, but it's not cool shit that's practical for a large demographic of people.
@subspecies: No, actually. Just playing Animal Crossing and engaging in forum discussion.
You seem to have taken it the hard way, though (not my intention). I gave you the benefit of discussion and practical reasons to back up my end. Really nothing to be angry about.
You can always leave room for discussion, or you can go back to heckling with shitposters like I_P_Daily and never get anywhere with it.
You can blame Kinect for that. Since Kinect flopped, Microsoft have been much more cautious moving into new gaming tech.
What's frustrating about that, is the PC community absolutely love the Kinect V2 for VR. It's great for tracking the headset and the body with out sensors.
X1X was going to have VR support but it was scrapped, still wouldn't be surprised if we did see a VR headset come out for it or a crossplatform VR headset.
@lifelessablaze said:
VR sux. You can't even game on it for longer than 30 minutes before developing a migraine
@jaydan: the more the technology improves, the less sick people be. Apple has been working for years on an VR and/or AR device. It's happening whether it's a headset or glasses
@KBFloYd: The Oculus Quest is selling well, the technology is improving, games are getting better, the user created content is improving. All quite significantly for the last 4 years. The added immersion really adds to the experience for me and other people
Shame, VR is the makes up some of the best gaming experiences I have had. The immersion is unmatched and for games like racing and the new flight simulator (which will eventually be updated with VR on PC) it's pretty much a must.
@Fairmonkey: It is literally a gimmick, because gimmicks have a big initial reaction, and then interest quickly fades.
Anecdotally, the first time I tried vr I was blown away....totally immersive. After a few times that initial aesthtical impression waned, and pretty soon I just didn't fancy putting the headset on.
The headset is the key...if ever vr gets the form down to a lightweight, wireless unit that doesn't cause nausea and headaches, adoption will rise - but it still will always be preferable to game on a big screen.
@hardwenzen: I dont care for VR, that's best suited for like amusement park/arcade type environment.Plus people who get motion sickness from VR hold game design back aswell.

C'mon dude you're trying to agonise reduc and ram your opinion down her throat, its clear to see from your posts.
I've said that VR is best used outside of gaming in like training medical students etc a long time ago, so I tried the route you're trying now it doesn't work, so I mock them instead.
Don't care if you think i'm a shitposter as you do your fair share as do others, just don't act like you're better lol.
@i_p_daily: Lol it's all good dude, I just used your name cause you were on the previous page causing a little commotion. I actually enjoy you as a poster as well, if you did not know. You do clown around a lot but that's what makes you entertaining to have here.
In this thread though I am not trying to agonize, trying to be realistic that health side-effects is a factor in VR. I also said VR is more exciting to me how it will be used in other industries such as training people in more difficult high-stakes professions, like doctor work.
@i_p_daily: The added immersion is not a gimmick, it's a game changer. Ready player one is the future whether you accept it or not. I'll be in VR with a treadmill within the next few years while you guys are playing Halo 7, Gears 8. Google Earth VR alone is more mind blowing than anything Xbox has out out in the last ten years

Like I said I tried that route. There's a reason I call VR "enthusiasts" nutjobs as they can't be reasoned with and just like the OP call it the next best thing, and yet VR has been around for decades and it will never be mainstream.
So i'm the biggest VR hater on this site (as voted by VR nutjobs) and I don't take kindly to people trying to steal my crown, so ease up ok lol.

Say what level is your character on Google Earth VR?

Fair enough, lol. But at the same time it's something like me trying to argue to you that racing games shouldn't be made for gaming purposes because the tech is better suited for training people to drive, or some such. You'd obviously not accept that, and would furthermore never even consider the argument, if it even existed.
VR fans just like VR. It's pretty simple. For some reason that fact just really pisses some people off, lol. It's freaking weird.

Then if you want to go that route then every game could be used to "train" people like CoD teaching you how to become a soldier etc, it doesn't fly.
Secondly I don't get pissed of at VR (if that's who you're referring to) I make fun in all threads VR, I don't tell people to not buy it as I didn't when that person in this thread asked for my opinion on it, I told them to do research out side of this asylum.
VR is best suited to things like teaching medical students, mechanics and the like to teach them as they can make mistakes break things without consequence. You can't really do that with normal games as the immersion isn't there.
You can like VR and its games just like I choose not to, and I think its more of a gimmick in the gaming scene, and argue it will never become mainstream.
I get it you love it, and I don't, we will never change each others minds. Now back to our regular programming, enjoy your car crash :)

All you play is racing games I play on console, PC, and VR from third person to FPS with a bunch of retro games in the mix plus others genres too. As for Google VR it has nothing to do with gameplay it's the amazing experience to explore the world in VR there's nothing like it.

Exactly.
Bottom line, play what you like, and stop caring about what others think.

"all you play is racing games" congrats on lowering yourself to casual4ever's low debating skills. Because racing is my favourite genre doesn't mean I don't play other genre's of games.
My level character comment was sarcasm, but this is not, thinking that looking at Google Earth through VR is better than playing actual games means this hobby isn't for you.

ip_daily only play racing games.
warmblur only play mainstream games.
thats the correction my friend.
OT: VR is a lame gimmick indeed. most of VR game bar alyx are just low budget indie games.
I'm surprised no one hasn't posted this yet: Xbox Head Phil Spencer Rules Out VR For Xbox Series X (Feb 2020)
“We’re not going to do that. I understand certain people would want that, [but] we have to focus our efforts on the things we’re doing right now. And the most precious resource that we have is the team and their ability and I just have to focus on the things we’re doing right now.”
He expanded upon his comment about resources later in the video, suggesting Xbox would be unable to provide the same full VR experience as Sony on PlayStation VR, or Valve and Oculus on PC,
“VR is not as simple as plugging your headset; you have to redo the dash like there’s a bunch of work that goes into it. And the teams at Valve, the teams at Sony, the teams at Oculus that are doing that work, they know the completeness and what it means to support the platform.”
I do own PSVR, MS's stance on VR has always been they will consider it when people want it, and when the technology is at a place where they think it's feasible to bring it to the console space. I'm pretty surprised that the latter stipulation seems to have come about so quickly. I didn't think wireless headsets would be here already. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like the mainstream customer wants it just yet. Moving forward to next-gen, no doubt VR will be pushing harder to make it mainstream but the question is, will VR come out of its early stage?
Well its obvious to see who isn't a gamer in these threads lol.

@davillain-: MS will only wade in safe territory. VR is a scary proposition to them because they lack the competency to properly execute something out of their wheelhouse.
