[QUOTE="markinthedark"]Exactly, XBOX will not output it through HDMI, only through Optical Cable, and you can't have both hooked up at the same time. You either have Great picture and crap audio, or you get Great audio and crap picture. The 50 dollar adapter allows for both.wait... no dolby digital through HDMI? what the hell are you talking about?

I'm with ya. I would've stupidy bought a new slim if it had come out with a $150 price tag, but since M$ greedily marked it at $300 they actually did me a favor. No way I buy a slim now, especially since Fable 3 is coming out for PC...
What is that Persistantthug dude on about, anyway? How is the fact that he's from Missouri relevant to the argument?Arbiterisl33t69
I'm from missouri is a broad statement made by Willard duncan Vandivar. I'm from Missouri you'll have to show me. It basically entails this part of his speech in 1899.
"""I come from a country that raises corn and cotton, cockleburs and Democrats, and frothy eloquence neither convinces nor satisfies me. I'm from Missouri, and you have got to show me."""
So basically thug is trying to use a saying that he doesn't follow him self, using his own frothy and I would say what he believes eloquent speeches he still has yet to prove any thing in quite a few of his posts never giving definitive proof, and completely ignoring counter arguments with proof given against him.

Oh yes sir,
I did say that, it was a "truce" of sorts.
I still do believe it, and I know I'm right in principle since XBOX 360 continues to falter with its 2010 retail exclusives (sub HD), whereas PS3 does not.
If the 360 has equivalent power, then I expect to see it. If it can't show it, then.....well, the debate is pretty much over, I think.
To coin the old saying/phrase....I'm from Missouri. ;)

there's plenty of video of those games out right now. simple internet search can answer those queries.actually, i don't think anyone asked for your opinion. at least, i didn't see that posted on any of these threads.Honestly,
You bring up a good point.
I certainly didn't mean to go off topic, but a few individuals wanted my word/take on a couple topic-situations of the past. I try to keep my manners and stay polite as much as possible, and part of that "good mannerism" if you will, is to try and respond to people and not leave them hanging.
I suppose not all of my good mannerisms are not appreciated by everyone, I guess.
I'll try and modify my ideals a bit and try to stay on the OP's topic.
Thank you for reminding me of that, sir. :)

"it has been revealed that theXbox 360 Elitewill not output multi-channel PCM audio overHDMIwhich is no different than what occurs in Core and Premium systems...The HDMI audio output will still not be fully functional as many users hoped. The Elite will not output uncompressed multi-channel audio...Nevertheless, the Xbox 360 Elite can output 2-channel PCM audio over HDMI."
I'll look for a link describing the same problem with the brand new XBOX. 99% sure it does not output Dolby Digital through the HDMI Port.

The article is from before an xbox was reased with hdmi and some general google searches seems people can get dolby digital 5.1 through hdmi on their xboxs.
if your hooking it up to your tv, the problem is that your tv won't pass through the signal, most tv's don't do this which is why you hook it directly up to the reciever to get 5.1.
Why not? It works fine with my roommates PS3. He has HDMI to the TV - Optical out to the reciever. My XBOX has HDMI to the TV and Optical to the Receiver - same as PS3 set up, yet PS3 gets Dolby Digital and my XBOX gets ProLogic. I've set the XBOX to Dolby Digital 5.1 in the settings.
alot of tv's don't pass through the bitstream, newer one's are more likely too though, but if you bought a cheap tv or one thats a few years old chances are it will process the incoming audio signal and output it as stereo. So another question would be why does my roommates PS3 Digital Audio go through the TV and then to the Recevier unscathed, while my XBOX's is dumped down to ProLogic? Again, set up is the same for both Units. The TV is set to output Digital 5.1, so is my XBOX. PS3 gets digital, XBOX does not. I would have to buy another HDMI Cable if routing it through the Reciever first works. The point I've been trying to make, is for some reason the XBOX cannot deliver a signal to the TV and then the receiver, it's either blocked or not being transmitted, making it to where you have to buy extra XBOX stuff, not because they were too dumb to think of a better solution, but because they know they can get you to buy extra add ons.

No, I understand completely how that stuff works. I have mine routed to my TV. The TV is outputting it to my receiver with an Optical Cable. The fact is, XBOX360 does not send a digital audio signal through HDMI alone - you have to use an Optical Cable, and you can't use both at the same time without an adapter. It doesn't work for me, and it doesn't work for 99% of the world. How it works for him, Im not sure - my guess it he's getting Dolby Pro Logic, and not Dolby Digital, they are different. The new one "slim" "elite" doesn't do it either.

Do you know what PCM audio is?
yah and some google searches show that the xbox 360 can handle pcm 5.1 through hdmi, funny part is it can't through optical.Optical worked for me when I had a crap TV, HDMI Digital Audio does not work with my Vizio - PS3 HMDI does. Why? Boggles me.

lol, does he not understand how dolby + recievers work[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="markinthedark"]

how it works for me is i have an AV receiver like i said.... AV stands for audio and video. All my video and all my audio goes straight into my AV receiver.... and i run 1 hdmi cable from my receiver to my tv. My AV reciever also has different lights on the front that tells the type of audio that its receiving at any given moment... and the dolby digital surround lights up when i turn my xbox on. So the xbox is definitely outputting dolby digital over HDMI... if you are having a problem... either you hooked crap up wrong or there is something wrong with your tv.

so with that we can assume you have accepted you were wrong, the 360 can output dolby digital and dts through hdmi. It can output dolby digital and dts through optical audio as well. As well My 360 used hdmi AND optical audio when I had my old receiver that did not support hdmi, and I had no problems outputing audio through the opitcal cable and hdmi as well...because you see thats one of the big things was that sony just recently enabled dual audio outputing on the ps3...the 360 allways had it.[QUOTE="Aqueas"]

Mabey a separate audio option for each vid input on the TV?alot of tv's don't pass through the bitstream, newer one's are more likely too though, but if you bought a cheap tv or one thats a few years old chances are it will process the incoming audio signal and output it as stereo.[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="Aqueas"]

how do you know it is...? try switching the inputs with the ps3 or something.

It does. I want both Digital Picture and Digital Sound to go to the TV, then to the receiver. It works with my roommates PS3, but not my XBOX, so I assume, and have read elsewhere that the XBOX is not outputting through HDMI. Maybe it is and the TV is blocking it, but why or how would it block an XBOX signal and not a PS3 signal? PS3 grts all 5 channels to the receiver, XBOX gets 2.
