[QUOTE="Aqueas"]

[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"] alot of tv's don't pass through the bitstream, newer one's are more likely too though, but if you bought a cheap tv or one thats a few years old chances are it will process the incoming audio signal and output it as stereo.markinthedark

Yeah, but why does the PS3 signal make it through (same exact set up) and the XBOX360 signal not?

Tried that, same problem, PS3 gets 5 channels, XBOX gets 2.

how do you know it is...? try switching the inputs with the ps3 or something.

Que?Why bring the ps3 into a 360 thread....Sad.But the 360 does more and it's way cheaper than the ps3.360=win.

Do some homework on it and you'll see why.

Do you know what PCM audio is?

Aqueas

yah and some google searches show that the xbox 360 can handle pcm 5.1 through hdmi, funny part is it can't through optical.

Optical worked for me when I had a crap TV, HDMI Digital Audio does not work with my Vizio - PS3 HMDI does. Why? Boggles me.

actually further reading, and i hate to say it but the only place i can find anything on the audio output on 360 says LPCM is only 2 channel on all outputs on 360. Granted games that support it are far and few so the ps3 needs it with bluray basically.

That's just the console. Add the stuff you'll still have to add onto it (the old ones) to do certain things then come back. Even with the new one, it still costs more.

[QUOTE="savagetwinkie"][QUOTE="Persistantthug"]

Ahh....now we're back on topic.

Please allow me the honor:

PS3.

No backwords compatibility. All PS3's have backwards compatibility....and from what I understand XBOX 360 B/C isn't very effective....so I heard.

No Headsets included with PS3. You're right....exept, that PS3's allow one the option of using ANY bluetooth headset, and ANY USB headset as well.

No HDMI cable included with PS3. PS3's do have HDMI cables now. I'm possitive XBOX 360's have no cables included anymore, for quite a while now.

Persistantthug

ps3's no longer have ps2 backwards compatibality, no headsets is an added cost, and people can by garbage headsets and chat usually doesn't sound as good as live neither system has hdmi cables, but 360 had them at one point and i believe ps3 didn't even bother giving any sort of HD cable.

Once again sir,

-PS3's have HDMI cables now. Was one of the first things Sony did when PS3's recently stopped selling at a loss....Part of Sony's annual value bonus

-All PS3's have backwards compatibility...not necessarily PS2 B/C (alot of them do however), but ALL PS3's have B/C

-Bluetooth headsets are as low as $5 at FRY'S ELECTRONICS. I bought my own (Motorola 680 gold) for $30 1 1/2 years ago. I've seen them go retail for $20. I recommend it if you're looking, but I think the 690 is what's current now.

-Interesting that you mention sound, because I found this interesting....and to be honest, I'm not surprised that the sound quality isn't so great when you use 75 cent'ish (maybe less) headsets....seriously. Um...since there might be some not so friendly language (I'm not sure), I better not link the vid....but it is under SENSITIVE.......his name is Louie92801

1.A certain sku has the hdmi cable now...that seems to be more of a special package and not a standard.

2.all ps3's have ps1 bc, the majority of them do not have ps2 bc, Ps2 bc ones are in the minority the majority of ps3 sales happend after they took the ps2 bc out and lowered the price.

3.any one willing to buy a 5 dollar bluetooth headset has a problem, the built in mic and wireless mic on the 360 are superior.

Yeah, that's what I've been saying. But some others on here have gotten it to work with all 5 channels, some how. I've read it only outputs 2 channels through HDMI no matter what, and you have to use the Optical Cable if you want 5.1. Problem is you can't plug in both, and I don't want to spend $50 for the adapter and another $20 for a second Optical Cable and have to switch audio sources between the two systems. If Microsoft had done it right (some of you figured out how to get it to work, if you did MS shouldnt have made it so complicated) I wouldnt have to switch back and forth between sources either. Makes it a real hassle, and then further pisses me off when I realise they have done it just to take more money out of my pockets. That's what irritates me, not so much the horrible oversight, but the fact that it was never an oversight, it was greed.

I'm just guessing, but most people who get the 5.1 DD to work are most likely using a receiver with an HDMI input. I have a crappy home theater in a box setup with 2 HDMI's and it works just fine. I used to have it setup like you do and had the same issue.

It was worth every penny for me. It actually had launch titles that were "AAA Exclusives" and worth playing unlike the PS3 when it launched. i didn't get the PS3 until almost 2yrs after it launched and I got it on EBay for less then $300 with 8 games, 3 blu-ray movies and 2 PSP games. PS3 wasn't worth it until that time.

Well, I'll try connecting the HDMI directly to the receiver. Still don't know why PS3 gets through just fine. I still have to by another HDMI Cable to make it work (if it does work, one to the AV then from the AV to the TV). Gay.

I'm sure I sound like an a-hole. I'm just pissed it's not working for me. It's not working for a lot of other people too. I'm trying to get to the root of the problem so I don't end up buying something I don't need. I just can't understand why the Sony signal doesn't get blocked but my 360's gets the shaft going through my TV.

Why do people do this? Do you not realize when360 came out, when? 2005? WiFi wasn't even there yet andHD just started to come out, none of these things were popular enough to justify placing into a system causing the price to be jacked up another $200.I mean enough with this. They came out with a newer oneto be more up with the times. You saw when then PS3 came out and how expensive it was with all this stuff included and look it took almost two years for it to come down to a reasonable price and that was after subtracting some of the things it originally had.

It would require me to buy an extra cable. Not to mention getting to the back of my receiver with 25 wires plugged in is an EXTREME pain in the rear.

I get it now. HDMI cables are cheap, but I can see how that could be a pain. Also, it sounds like someone needs some cable maintenance :P

I bought a 360 about 2 years back and think its a fantastic deal. It has provided me with hours and hours of entertainment, has an amazing library with many quality titles and a great selection of arcade games. I bought a PS3 about a year back and have found the experience to be remarkably similar. You cant go wrong either way..designer-

True, I misspoke. There's a lot of good titles on the system. I just don't like the backwards way they try to nickel and dime you. Don't get me wrong, it makes sense from a marketing standpoint. It's easy to sell add-ons that never had to be add ons.

I severly lol'd @ TC's fanboyism.

On-Topic: 360 has the best online service, and that was a sell....and LOLOLOL @ $100 wifi adapter...look at the news lately?

Modern_Unit

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_05891909000P?vName=Computers%20&%20Electronics&cName=ComputerAccessories&sName=Networking&sid=IDx20070921x00003a&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=05891909000P that was what I saw - $99.99 I see the lowest one is 60.00. Still too much. You guys getting the point? They want you to buy all of this extra stuff when clearly the PS3 is cheaper in the long run. Should have bought one.

Lol, Im talking about the brand new 360 with:

Built in wifi

Shocker i know

Ah yeah the built in wifi that totally does wonders for the 30 million people who already own a 360. That's a good one.

I agree. I've complained my fair share about the rip-off peripherals and proprietary nature of everything MS makes to try and get it's hooks into you... I knew about all of this going into my 360 purchase though, so I didn't feel cheated by it.

Isn't the wifi adapter like half the price now? :? Not sure if it's official or the store I've seen it in was just that awesome (haven't used a 360 in about 2 years already, so I don't know the major news nowdays :P).

Yeah, WAY "b4". What makes you think this is getting locked? Anyway TC, you're right about the peripherals being a rip-off, but it being a "waste of money" is subjective. It wasn't a waste of MY money, I've got my money's worth out of it, easily. 8)

He made a thread similar to this one and it got locked in a few minutes.

Yeah looking at it's substandard quality, and lack of premium features, it's just not that worth the price.

Oh, considering it was my only gaming platform this gen - I disagree completely. This has probably been my best gen in terms of fun, content and overall entertainment.

I'd be careful, sonny. Speaking for a whole mass of people when you have no right to can lead to very bad things. :)

BTW, 'premium features'? Could you have made that ANY more broad?

I severly lol'd @ TC's fanboyism.

On-Topic: 360 has the best online service, and that was a sell....and LOLOLOL @ $100 wifi adapter...look at the news lately?

Not to mention the fact that you can buy a new adapter on Amazon with free shipping for $60.

wait... no dolby digital through HDMI? what the hell are you talking about?

It used to have that problem. Now it doesn't. All of the TCs info is outdated. Seriously, every point is a non-issue. I'm thinking he just wanted to have a long thread, even if it was based on negative attention.

Because it's trolling. The mods cut this type of standard trolling slack, but it's trolling... and factually innaccurate trolling at that.

I disagree.

The gentleman clearly is expressing his genuine opinion and has articulately explained his disposition.

This topic is good....perhaps not preferred by some...but definitely good and genuine.

Not to me. I've had so much fun with my 360 that I can only say it has been more than worth every penny I've paid for it.

[QUOTE="Arbiterisl33t69"]inb4 ERROR: You cannot acess this threadPersistantthug

Why?

I mean, this guy feels he got ripped off, he seems angry, put off, and/or dismayed about it,

he seems genuine about his feeling, and with that, what's to argue?

I agree with him.

Why should anyone get angry about this guy being genuine? Why?

In my opinion, we need more genuineness in the world today. :)

the fact that he says it a rip off after ignoring the fact that the new 360 has the list of things he wants, it even soppurts surround sound with HDMI so he's being fanboyish by saying its a rip off. now the only thing that the Ps3 has over the 360 is Blu ray, the 360 has more USB ports, bigger hard drive, and faster wifi that built in. how is it a rip off?

How do you know he's genuine? I guess he's genuine to you just because you like what he's saying. Actually, since he's posting this in SW, it's likely he's NOT genuine.

because it's anti-360 and pro-ps3. that can never be wrong.
