Easily the best JRPG this generation.
I'm not counting Demon's/Dark Souls BTW.

Yeah, it seems like OP is trying to form a "it's not as good as everyone else says" opinion before he even plays it.
I think it will be very good. I'm looking forward to it tomorrow. Its design, I've seen before though. Thats it.:)I heard it plays similar to FF12 and some said it was FF12 should've been gameplay wise.
I will play it tomorrow when I pick up my preorder.

what was done wrong gameplay wise? FF12 was imo a good game and the gameplay was enjoyable.
[QUOTE="finalfantasy94"]
ah thought you played it. I was just wondering in a gameplay form how is breath of fresh air is all. I dont pay attention to comments involving characters and world since those are highly based on opinoin. To be honest i got tired of stuff like giant towns and uber giant maps in my jrpgs. I dont mind a quick little town and I can get around to shops and such and be on my way and after ff12 im just fine with no more giant maps. Imma pick it up down the line since I have a big backlog and right now in the middle of tales of grace which im highly enjoying.

I'm in the future arc. Asbel's character really makes the game hard for me to play.
Well im still in the begging. I just did the strata ruin. So far im enjoying the cast and voices.....well richards VA needs some work.

yea from what iv seen the game I can think of that has most in common with it is ff12 as you said.
That's what I've heard as well. Speaking of which how is Final Fantasy XII? I'm considering buying it, but the game seems to have very mixed reactions within the fandom.
EDIT: fixed the quote
IMO the main fault I find with ff12 is that they put vaan as the lead but he doesint feel like the lead at all. While some of the other characters feel much more important. Gameplay wise the maps are very big and the gameplay is pretty fun. Kinda feel mmoish on the gameplay front and you set up how you want your team to play.

Also, most of the gameplay faults were remedied in the International version.
@David719 I'd recommend it over the localized XII if it's within your means.

What is this I don't even...? :?
FFXII was brilliant in that you could exercise as much or as little control over your party at your discretion. :|
It feels like the game that Square-enix should have made if they continued doing their games the way they did in the PS1 generation.
JLF1MarkII
Not really.
I'd rather the developers, not just pertaining to Square-Enix, keep taking risks and creating new things. I've played those games before. I don't need countless reissues of the same.
We wouldn't get games like Reasonance of Fate, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Chronicles, The Last Story, Tales of Graces F (battle system wise), etc etc

All you have to do is listen to the narration and see if you like the voice I think it is the main characters voice; I'm not sure because I only watched a few seconds after they selected new game.

I was muting my PC speakers because the tc said I shouldn't listen to the internet. :POk now I get it.Kinda agree with this review (and I did beat the game) the game is amazing and its the best JRPG on home consoles this gen but people exaggerate it when they say it revolutionary I hated the idea of having 10000000000000000 side quesy in the game it really annoyed me almost any NPC I talk to in the game gives a side quest to do and almost all the side quests are boring as hell, as for the open world part I think FFXII executed the open world part better than Xenoblade in Xenoblade the open world kinda felt messy and its exploration was more of being a pain in the a** than being fun (Like FF12 or DQ8).
You haven't even played the game so how on earth can you make such statements?I'm not :|
No offence but the comments I've seen you made on this game makes you come off as a Square-enix fanboy that can't accept that they are no longer the king.JLF1MarkII
I enjoy RPGs, or rather games, whether or not they made by Square-Enix or *insert publisher or developer here*. Sorry if you feel that way. My minds not gonna change on Xenoblade's design choice though. Its archaic, but seems to be very well executed from the videos and reviews I've been reading. A definite buy for the RPG fan imo.

I just quoted the title from the article headlineI agree that this game is wasted on the Wii's hardware. Bread_or_DecideMaybe but it would've had to be on the Wii U instead since Nintendo owns the developer.

Excellent point. Even DS to some extent as well- I played and beat Xenoblade months ago and though it is a very huge game, so are many other games that get much praise for their efforts.as opposed to games like skyrim that got way more hype and had more reviewers turn their head and present it as a game it was not?

I thought it controlled fine; it's how I played it. I'd try it at least before committing to a CC.
That's true. I'm gonna start it up soon.I beat the game last year, trust me, use the cLassic controller pro, makes managing the camera and menus easier and it's so comfortable on the handsFor those of you who played it how was it with the wii-mote? I'm seriously considering buying a CC for this.

I've been playing the import version, and yes I agree with you. The game is not as good as some people and critics are saying. However, you have to keep in mind that the people hyping this game are usually sheep who have never had a good stream of JRPGs come to their consoles for a long time. The gameplay is not revolutionary at all, but the overworld is good to explore and detailed, as far as wii hardware goes. The story isn't that memorable either. I can think of A LOT better examples of the JRPG genre that came out last gen on ps2 that deliver a better experience than this one. It's kind of sad though, because it clearly shows the current state of the genre on consoles.
I remember I had a similar complain with FF12 for this reason, but I also enjoyed the world of FF12 a lot more. This game is the only time i'd complain about it being way too big. All you do is fight timed monsters once your on a high level, which mean more walking. -_-
flipdc5
The reviewer is entitled to their opinion, but making a statement like "Fans and reviewers have slapped the game with hyperbolic labels like 'the best JRPG of this generation' and 'an evolution point for JRPGs,' which makes me question whether any of those people actually play JRPGs" is just arrogant.
I'm one of those people that considers Xenoblade the best JRPG this generation. If someone disagrees, I respect their opinion, everyone has their own tastes and expectations. I'm not going to make a ridiculous statement like what that reviewer said though.
Anyway, to those who are finally getting the game, have fun. =)

Off topic but can someone tell me if Xenogears is worth playing or is it an "amazing for its time" kind of deal. I bought it on PSN and while I'm doing a good job ignoring the horrible load times and graphics the story hasn't pulled me in after 7 hours thus far.
Lucianu
It has the best story on a console, that sh*t cannot age. Even if that could possibly be arguable, it is a irrefutable fact that it has the best characters and story in a JPRG. Fei's depth alone obliterates all JRPG characters, you'll soon see what i mean by that. 7 hours isn't really anything, it was a mediocre experience for me at that mark aswell. I don't remember any load times being horrible, though i do remember that it took a few hours for me to get hooked.
But man, it hooked me after a certain time, especially wen other characters start showing up and wen some epic music starts kicking in. F*k, i love that game. Finished it a year ago, took me 58 hours if i recall correctly.
Better characters and story then FF6? That's a bold statement but thanks for the response. I will continue playing.
I didn't read the article ( as I do not care about Kotaku), but what exactly is so revolutionary about XenoBlade? (not a rhetorical question or trying to be aggressive, I'm genuinly curious)
From what I've heard of the game so far people seem to love/be interested in the game based on the fact that it has a super large world and tons of content, which is great and all, but certainly not "revolutionary."
I think it's more about the way it plays. The battle system is great.I didn't read the article ( as I do not care about Kotaku), but what exactly is so revolutionary about XenoBlade? (not a rhetorical question or trying to be aggressive, I'm genuinly curious)

I usually hate JRPGs (before it was cool too), but I really really like Xenoblade. Definitely one of the best games to come out this year. Combat is fun, characters are great, story is good, and not the Uncharted or Mass Effect good, actually GOOD.

that ff13 does nothing better then xenoblade line sounds a bit stubborn. I mean from a battle system standpoint from what iv seen seems alot like ff12 and while I like that combat system I enjoyed ff13 combat more.
