This game is the only time i'd complain about it being way too big. All you do is fight timed monsters once your on a high level, which mean more walking. -_-

edo-tensei

I remember I had a similar complain with FF12 for this reason, but I also enjoyed the world of FF12 a lot more.

FF12 had alot more problems than Xenoblade. The Gambit and Licence Board made it slow and lose the flow of the game. It didn't really add anything to the core gameplay and it's not user friendly. It made it even more apparent in Zodiac version. I guess its all matter of opinions.

You guys should all just play the game before you start running your mouths. Its also an ironic thing that an article on the internet says you shouldn't listen to the internet. Fuuccking stupid.

Played the game for a bit. My opinion still stands. Great game though.

Although it is Kotaku, I read the review (which the reviewer states you should still buy the game) which offered a more objective look at the game then all the other reviewers I've read so far. I don't believe that an "open" world or "tons" a quest merit a "revolution" that so many reviewers are calling this game for the genre, nor the best. The game's design looks very archaic imo as well, but just very well implemented (Due to Takahashi of course). That being said I believe the game will be very solid and I'm purchasing the game due mostly to the fact that the OST is so damn good (I love Yoko Shimomura's tracks).

My short conclusion: Very well made game. Not the design that future RPGs should follow imo.

Side note: He won it for me when I too found the similarity from Chu Chu (Xenogears) to Riki lol. Oh Takahashi

Also who else who hasn't played the game yet is buying??? Oh and for System Wars sakes to make this thread relevant. It should have been on the PS3/360/PC *runs*

Note: I know Monolith is owned by Nintendo as well. Just adding fuel lol

hayato_

It is considered a revolution for being released in a pile of crap (Bad Jrpgs) and being rated from that instead of the game. The game is atrocious on so many levels, it IS generic, questionable characters, restrictions, a closed battle system not offering much variety, questionable characters, and cliches out the azz and more. It may not be super trash, but revolution probably has to do with the fact:

1. Nintendo

2. The vast amountsof games selling well with the exception of things like Skyrim and etc, are shooters.

3. Jrgs or in decline on consoles and handhelds.

4. The reviewers use different standrads.

5. The reviewers are on some powerful stuff.

Picked it up this morning and played for about 3 hours now. I'm really enjoying it so far. It brings me back to the graphics of last gen in a good way and yet it still looks beautiful. the soundtrack is amazing; I actually can't remember the last time I sat on the title screen and listened to the music the way I did this game. Gameplay is solid though I'm very glad I picked up a Classic Controller for it.

Overall, I'm enjoying the game. It hits a soft spot in me that few games this gen have really hit. NIER, Lost Odyssey, and now Xenoblade have resonated with me in good ways and I wish more RPG titles like these would come out.

Xenoblade with a 92 on meta has become the most overrated game of this gen if you ask me. FFXII is a thousand times better and they both have the same metascore, are you kidding me? In my opinion the best Jrpg's that have come out this gen are Tales of Vesperia (79 = underrated) and Valkyria Chronicles (86 = pretty good).

A sixth reason why the game was critically received well, is possibly because the reviewers genuinely enjoyed the game. I guess Xenoblade isn't your kind of game, doesn't mean the critics opinions are wrong though.

as opposed to games like skyrim that got way more hype and had more reviewers turn their head and present it as a game it was not?

Got my copy today. Have yet to play it, but I looked through the art book. It's a neat little feature, but, honestly, I would have been fine without it as well. I like it, but it's not necassary.

Is the art book inside the case or separate? If it's outside the case, I didn't get one..

If you preordered the game before March 26 (?) you didn't get one. Stupid I know. you're not missing all that much though, there are some pretty pictures but nothing necassary for full enjoyment.

Enjoyment and Objectivity are not the same, you shouldn't review games for enjoyment if the game is bad. In most cases, that leads to them letting things go in the game they are reviewing but then crush another game for the same thing. You should enjoy the games, but you shouldn't review it based on your enjoyment. I have to describe closed battle system? Describe the battle system to me, and when you do you will notice what I am talking about. Restrictions should be obvious.

I've never seen a critic state they enjoyed a game and then proceeded to give it a 4/10. You'll never see that because a critic would be a fool to claim that a game is factually good or bad. I personally just follow the critics with the same taste as me and ignore the rest. =/

Yes, I need you to explain the closed battle system and restrictions.

I preordered it in February, and I didn't get one. I called them up, and they said they'll probably get it in a later shipment, and I can pick it up later.

Even if the artbook sucks, I still want it.

Share opinions is fine, scoring based on it is not. 2 different things. The Battle System does not allow much to evolve or make it so that they can add more variety to it. The Exploration, the Game balance, and the environment are all restricted. Grated, some people like that, but it doesn't mean it's not there.

Is this just because I don't like how the game plays? Because saying I am spewing crap because I don't like it is trolling. Especially when you have no points against what I said.
