X-Play releases GOTY nominees and GULP!?!?!

X-Play used to be awesome on TechTV, but they are nothing but a joke. Why in the hell wouldn't you have Skyrim and SS?

I lost creditablity from the a long time ago.

I think a lot more people will read the GOTY on an average site than the review for Dark Souls or Demon's Souls, and some of them will be people who don't normally read the site. That just gives you an even more mainstream audience to consider, so when you snub one of the big selling games the mainstream loves like Skyrim or Batman in favor of some RPG they've never heard of, you're just encouraging them not to come again. The gamers who like Souls games, however many there may be, would ultimately be a small percentage of the people paying attention to GOTY.

and those same readers are fleeting ad hits that will come and go how they please. its all getting away from the point that its boring to have the latest gta or uncharted win goty every year simply because they are expected to. plenty of people also check out gaming sites to see what games they missed. pandering to the broadest user (and again, these are console games not little indie downloadables stashed away on specialty sites) and their need to get a pat on the back.

He's a talking head who spends far more time trying to make funny skits than playing the games you respect his opinion on. You could also poll Bozo the Clown for his GOTY and get similar results...

Also, any list without a mention of TW2 should be tossed in a fire. I'm not saying it's a shoe in to win... but ignoring it shows their opinion has been bought, not formed.

Only game on that list I find undeserving of the nomination is Mario 3DS. And while I love Skyrim, I find the nomination hollow as both Uncharted 3 and Dark Souls deliver as enjoyable an experience for their target audience without all the technical frustrations (and I suppose Zelda:SS as well, although I should reserve judgment since I haven't played it and don't intend to). When Skyrim isn't so technically frustrating, the game soars. Sadly, the longer you play the more pronounced the bugs become.

See sig for my personal GOTY noms. Still think Portal 2 was the best sequel out there and LA Noire the best original title (kinda, it does have a few recycled parts from GTA in there but more original than practically every other game that came out this year).

Good list. L.A. Noire is questionable though I can understand why someone might consider it a contendor. At least it's not what we expected entirely, it's got a few oddballs like the aforementioned L.A. Noire and Saint's Row: The Third. Come on, you all know if it had inlcuded Skyward Sword and UC3 instead of those two your posts would read along the lines of "[*yawn* Get some originality X-PLAY].

Deus Ex HR and Witcher 2 needs to be there.

Good to see U3 isn't. That doesn't deserve GOTY.

I hope Portal 2 gets it. My personal favorites have been The Witcher 2, Dark Souls, Skyrim, and Portal 2. I have yet to play Deus Ex and Uncharted 3 though. I think Deus could be a contender though

All so, so true.

Demon's Souls (even though Atlus neglected PAL once again with the game) was one of GS's best GOTYs because it did something no one in 2009 could. That's why it deserved it.

I guess you can look at the small victories: Call of Duty nowhere to be found on the list...it's a start.

I hope Portal 2 gets it. My personal favorites have been The Witcher 2, Dark Souls, Skyrim, and Portal 2. I have yet to play Deus Ex and Uncharted 3 though. I think Deus could be a contender though

BTW, if you look at their site there are categories for Best Performance By Nolan North and Best Performance Not By Nolan North. That's pretty genious.

Hilarious, true, and Sig-worthy all in one!

A little off topic, but I think The Witcher 2 gets way too much love around here. Same as the first actually, although I enjoyed that one much more. Granted I only got halfway through TW2, but quite frankly the plot just seems boring. Maybe even uninspired is the word I'm looking for. I understand what's going on in the game, but they don't do a good enough job of developing a reason for why I should care. Part of the problem is probably that Geralt is still a lame character for an RPG where the characters and their development is crucial. Atleast with the first game there was a sub-plot that made you want to find out more about him.

The gameplay was changed, but I wouldn't say it's much better. More realistic and challenging maybe, but not as fun.

I would put the game in GOTY discussion out of sheer recognition for the genre and games like The Witcher, but based on where I'm at in the game, I don't see how why it should actually win.

2. Portal 2 (My personal pick)
3. Skyrim
4. Mario 3ds
5. LA Noire (my personal WTF?!)
6. Batman AC
7. Saints Row the Third

The Red is what should NEVER have touched GOTY lists and the Green is acceptable.

No Skyward Sword or Uncharted 3 is acceptable in my opinion because they listed 4 FANTASTIC games that out weigh the others.

replace skyrim with dark souls

replace mario 3d with LBP2

replace gears 3 with uncharted 3

and then the list will be somewhat accurate.
