I used to watch extended play, then a little x-play but they always sucked compared to Judgement Day. And I can't stand G4, it might be one of if not the worst channel on tv.

If LittleBigPlanet 2 and El Shaddai do deserve to be looked at as GOTY nominees, they need to be looked at not because of their obscurity, but because of their excellent quality. I do agree, however, that GOTY lists are unfortunately compiled of the most high profile games. But that's the rewards you reap for advertising.
That's a horrible list of GOTY contenters. At least one of the two games Uncharted 3 and Skyward Sword should be on there.

Yep. I don't understand all the Mario hate in this thread. It's coming from people who didn't play it mostly. It has a higher metacritic score than a lot of the other games listed, and I would probably give it Gameplay GOTY if such a thing exists. Pure genius.

El Shaddai is a bad game and not even worth mentioning in the GOTY awards.
I actually agree with dark souls not being there.... i have a hard time agreeing that frustration and innaccessable gameplay needs to be showered with praise.
It could be worse. They included Portal 2 (I mean it came out in, like, April, man, everyone will have forgotten about it by Christmas!) and didn't nominate Modern Warfare 3 or LA Noire. Wait, hang on...

ohh gee like Dark Souls is the only game that gives frustration. The game is all about knowledge, the least you know the harder it will be. Inaccessible gameplay? *shake my head* what the hell does that mean? I've beaten the game 5 times already, and a hell of a lot of people beat the game often on the wiki inaccessible my ass. You're such a hater.

A decent list overall. Though L.A Noire? Meh didn't find it to be that good.

I enjoyed LA Noire and the different approach it had and technical strengths but it wouldn't be in my goty list. Gears 3, although a big fan of the series, wouldn't either. Batman, Deus Ex without a doubt.

thank you good sir... Id say i'm more of a "dissliker" Hate is such a strong word during this holiday season... congrats on your achievment though... I simply cant get into that game.
Horribad looking games such as Zelda SS should never be a GOTY contender when the others looks great and plays great. That list is pretty poor though...
I think its time to seriously talk GOTY... do we really feel like it is? in comparison to other offerings this year? I pre ordered it and really enjoyed it btw, so yeah, Im on board with the discussion... its not my GOTY choice, but it would be a nominee... but my gripes consist of it never really wowing me... it was simply solid throughout. a great game, but maybe not GOTY. why are you guys so hard up on it BEING GOTY?
Some of those nominations are hilarious. The lack of Witcher 2, Uncharted 3 and Skyward Sword is glaring as well; maybe even Deus Ex: Human Revolution, too.

Gamespot gave 8.0 to a bad game? Since when does GOTY need to be the highest-rated game? Or one that the community cares about? Why isn't the award about what the site thinks is the game that best represents the year?
