exceeded the number of people born on the planet each day
thats the selling rate of the iphone
13 billon profit
thats some stats right there
The entertainment division posted over a half billion profit. Is MS the only console company that is turning a profit or are they also seeing this?

Yeah, well, the Wii ain't selling anymore, and they had to cut the price on the 3DS, and the DS ain't selling anymore.
The Wii-U will probably turn it around, though.
How is this possible?
They are shifting record tonne of hardware

Well economy functions in strange ways. The hardware could print money but they would still be in red. I think it has to do with the success of Apple.

I'm guessing its the same thing thats hurting Sony and other japanese companiesDat strong Yen
Well the Wii is basically dead since the Wii-U will be coming out within a year and the 3DS is just getting started. Things will probably start looking up for them again once the Wii-U comes out.
You work for apple? Can you please tell your boss to stop letting workers kill themselves over poor working conditions? That would be cool, see what you can do :Dwell the streak of profits had to end at some point. I don't doubt Nintendo will get right back on green soon. Damn, good to see the company I work for making millions of dollars on iphones, ipads macbooks etc.

How? I didn't think they were selling the 3DS at that much of a loss. I mean, everything else they're doing should be profit :(
I'm a little concerned about how this could affect Wii U. If they can't set the price high, can't take a loss on each sale and have to include the tablet controller there's no way the hardware specs are gonna be good.
Or make it worse. The 3DS is selling well, once they get the cost down they should be fine (as long as they are not in the same boat with the Wii U.Yeah, well, the Wii ain't selling anymore, and they had to cut the price on the 3DS, and the DS ain't selling anymore.

In all honesty, I'm surprised at how poorly they're doing considering how well the 3DS is selling. I was under the impression that they were still selling at a slight profit, but I guess not.Yeah, well, the Wii ain't selling anymore, and they had to cut the price on the 3DS, and the DS ain't selling anymore.

If Nintendo is swimming in red ink, what does that make Sony? System-transition periods are always the toughest for Nintendo. Give them a year or so when their new stuff starts picking up steam, they'll be back on track.1PMrFister
I agree, they learned a hard lesson with the overpricing of the 3DS and the lackluster game lineup at launch. I doubt they will ever get into this mess again lol
But nintendo is leading sales, how is this possible? Damn.
tjricardo089
Because Microsoft and Sony had bigger losses than Nintendo, but do you think any fanboy is going to acknowledge that? Even if they do, they'll try to say something to make it seem like they were still winning.

Microsoft turned like a half-billion in profit on its games division this year. :?[QUOTE="WiiCubeM1"][QUOTE="tjricardo089"]

I did. I'll admit Nintendo had a terrible quarter. (and now I'm kinda doing the latter part of my initial statement.)

Ah, fair enough. :P But Nintendo and Microsoft have been doing pretty well this gen overall. The only console maker that's taken a serious beating has been Sony.[QUOTE="WiiCubeM1"][QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"] Maybe he meant throughout the generation?DarkLink77

It sounds worse than it is. They're in the middle of the Wii to Wii U transition, the loss in 3DS revenue now will pay off down the road (you make most of your money on software, not hardware), and they're on the wrong side of the Yen's exchange rate. The only real issue is whether or not the 3DS is going to be able to maintain sales or whether it's going to get crowded out by the upcoming wave of smartphones and tablets.
damn, if only Sony were releasing there next gen system at the same time as the Wii-U... they could have taken the final blow to end nintendo.
I'm not worried. 2011 has been the worst year for them financially in their history, but I don't see any reason why they won't be returning to profits in the coming years.
If they post this 6 times in a row like Sony, sure! :PSo does that mean we can do NINTENDO IS DOOOOOOOOOMED threads?
supa_badman
Wii U i'd say, R&D plus development, plus manufacturing, plus the fact they aren't selling any yet to get a return. That's my only reasoning on how they are still losing money.Where the hell are they spending all of this money? The Wii and 3DS are doing fine. I just don't get it.
